NBA coaches couldn't handle his hothead. When he played for the national team he was an integral part of the team and always showed respect to the coaching staff and his teammates.
Personally, I think he had a bone to pick with the Americans because of the NATO aggression in '99 and that played the major role in his attitude, he simply didn't give a f*ck to put in the effort for any team once he got paid.

Ha. If you have six Europeans in the top ten picks then I think its best to use the word 'European rather than International. Impressive. I would say that the Austalian NBL deserves some credit for Sarrs development and exposure. It was the NBLs decision to send the Perth Wildcats to play the G-League Ignite team which made Sarr look good. Nobody was talking up Sarr as the number one pick before that. Australian coach John Rillie deserves some credit too. The NBL Next Star program is a great destination for young Europeans that do not want to have to study in USA.

How many number one picks has Europe had in the NBA draft by the way? Australia has three number one picks. Andrew Bogut - Kyrie Irving - Ben Simmons. How many top pics from Europe will Sarr make? And like I said - we deserve a lot of the credit for Sarr.

    • @jorisoims3085

Sarr only played and spent 7 month in Australia, if he had choose to stay in Europe rather than going, to the Overtime Elite last year and NBL this year, he would have still be drafted Top 3.
Kyrie Irving move out of Australia when he was 2 years old, Australia has nothing to do with, is Basketball career, even Bogut and Simmons move to USA to play college Ball rather than staying in Australia to have higher chance of being drafted high.
Europe got the same number of First pick but they got about 20 more players drafted top 10.

It’s absolutely normal… talent in Europe is much bigger, because here we still PLAY basketball, we don’t just make an acrobatics parkour showbizz steroid filled event. Also here players don’t have a top European league like the NBA. Here the system is completely different, most of the games are still played on low level national leagues, because of national identity… it’s impossible for now to have a single continetnal league like the NBA. There fore the sport doesn’t grow as much athletically… but it does in any other significant way - technically, strategically, teamwork etc. So when those guys come to the NBA, get proper fisical conditioning like in a top american league… you get the best of both worlds.
And they are also 100% team players, in Europe you cannot be a 1 man team, it’s impossible. Which in America is mostly not the case.

Fact is: if you ask european guys who have done pre-draft camps to test the market, there are barely 2 maybe 3 zone defensive systems the AAU/NCAA the US boys learn. And another concern is the star system and the social networks that brainwash them into being scoring machines first before learning defense fundamentals.
So what we see now are defensive players sought after by the GMs. And where do you get them ? in Europe, and specially France. The mock drafts only show the guys that are « starified », you should also add Tidjane Salaün to that list, he’s scary, probably the next Giannis. This kid is gonna be the biggest steal for the next draft.

"act is: if you ask european guys who have done pre-draft camps to test the market, there are barely 2 maybe 3 zone defensive systems the AAU/NCAA the US boys learn."
Depending Zone defenses, they are forbidden in lot european countrys in youth competition. While they are pretty common in HS level.
For scouting mostly offensiv and stats helps you, which makes it more difficult to shine with defense - this also counted for the EU ... But i would say, that if you want to start early on mature teams, you mostly aint the offensiv star and you need to put lot of energy in defense (even when it is hard through the physical developement) while in the US the stars mostly can shine offensiv from day one.
And AAU Ball and many camps doesnt help team ball that much, especially when stat padding is a way to get scholarships.
