"God Bless Rick Middleton & Talented Style Of Play in Hockey in Which Inspired Future Generations of Kids Whom Are Inspired By His Career in Hockey & The Game We played!" "A CLASS ACT INDEED!"
How is this guy not in the HOF? It's an abomination. One of the best 1:1 players ever, all around player, passer, scorer, and flatly scored some of the most gorgeous goals in hockey history. It's absolutely ridiculous.
Congrats to Rick! One omission on Nifty's highlight reel (B's really should ask fans for OUR memories of player's careers!): The night Middleton flew across center ice and crossed the blue line facing a one-on-one vs Montreal's great Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson - and...with the slipperiest of indescribable moves...turned Big Larry inside-out like a pretzel, zoomed in and decked the goalie and roofed the puck! One of the most spectacular...and prettiest...goals I have ever seen. (I didn't see all of Robinson's games, but for him I"ll bet that was as rare an occurrence as getting hit by lightning - which he was by Nifty!)
Anyone have Rick Middleton Retirement Night on dvd? Or vhs? Lmk. Would love a copy. Contact me at psc31@yahoo.com Thanks for your assistance. Feel free to pass my information on to people who might have it! Thanks. John

In 1981, I attended the Canada Cup in Montreal, and ( I still can't believe this die hard B's fan did this ) cheered "Guy, Guy" as Lafleur created magic on a line with Gretzky and Perrault. Another fun part of the 2 Canadian games I saw was Hab fans cheering Nifty's terrific two way play.
Rick was such a talented player. So fun to watch. So many great Bruins teams when he played. Just a shame the B's ran into a Montreal dynasty, then it was the Islanders dynasty, & at the tail end of the 80's, it was the Oilers dynasty.
He was a big part of some very good post orr Bruins teams that came really close to a cup, congrats nifty....probably best small guy to ever play for Bs
MrJohnnyDistortion In 1979 the bruins were 2 minutes from going to the Stanley cup finals but the bruins get called for too many men giving Montréal a power play. The habs scored and then they scored in overtime to eliminate the bruins
josericotaconachoquesadillamondillajones -How excited we’re we all when Nifty came around the back of Montreal’s net and sneak it past Dryden on the wrap-around with only a little over 4 minutes left on the clock. And that damb Lemaire passing to the damb Lefluer ect ect....
@@stonedstakegaming5458 Oh that's right. 1979? I remember now. The puck was nowhere near the players as they were changing up as the play continued if I recall correctly?
Middleton was a true Bruins legend, but I'll always associate the #16 with Derek Sanderson. Don't get me wrong, Middleton is the far superior player and an amazing talent...but I'll never forget "Sanderson to Orr"!!!
Whose number, if any, should be retired next? I was thinking Gerry Cheevers who brought Boston to 4 cup appearances in 9 years but he did skip off to The WHA after the 72 season and Eddie Johnson, and later, Gillies Gilbert also played a big role....what you think?
I remember seeing Cheevers play in the WHA in the old Boston Gardens with the Ckeveland Crusaders I think. People in the upper balcony were talking shit to him and Cheevers would look up and raise his stick hand and shake it at them warning them of a beating. LOL
They didn’t do something in this ceremony they usually do with players who numbers get hoisted to the rafters (Orr, Bucyk, Espo, Taz, Neely and Bourque). Anyone know what is missing??
4orrcountry -Very good my friend. I sent a letter to Neely asking why. Since you got it I’ll let you know what he said ( if he replies) and, if you want , can have the reply letter. He has replied in the past. (I sent him letter asking why Middleton’s # wasn’t retired!)
I've had the pleasure to meet Rick years ago when he came to my store to shop with C.B. He was a class act then and always was. Congrats!

I remember Middleton well from my childhood and growing up. He was skilled and dangerous with the puck. Born in Toronto and one of my fav players.
To have your number in the rafters along with Bruins and celtic legends is a huge honor

Close but not quite. He played just over 1000 games but not part of the 500 goals or 1000 pt club. No cup.
Outstanding player. Should be in the Hall of Fame.
Hope someday Rick goes to the Hockey Hall Of Fame !
Give it time.
I miss the good old days......
Thank you! I missed this live, so happy you posted it. Your the man.
Hard to believe it took the Bruins 30 years to retire his number. Great player. Should be in hockey HOF.

"CONGRATULATIONS NIFTY RICK MIDDLETON!"
At 15:25 Rick shook the hands of the next two Bruins to get their numbers retired.

About time!!! Congrats Rick, should have happen long ago!
i miss that real type of hockey. seeing Legends like Rick Middleton, Always brings me back to Our game.
I saw Rick play junior in Oshawa and I knew then he was going to be a great NHL player. He should be in the HOF.
He was a big part of some very good post orr Bruins teams that came really close to a cup, congrats nifty....probably best small guy to ever play for Bs
Thanks so much for posting!
rickie was the best loved to watch him play. he looks fantastic and i am so glad they finally retired his number they should have done that years ago.
Thank you for posting this for everyone who couldn't get to see it on NESN!
Gotta love Grapes! "You were one of the sweethearts on the club....""" - DEAD!
What a savage!
Gotta love that they use the full names!
This was actually fucking awesome. Time to watch #4's number raised. Again.
Thanks for sharing this.
Hockey legend
Does anyone have this on dvd?
Looking to obtain a copy of Rick Middleton Retirement Night.
I didn’t want to have too many men on the ice again
josericotaconachoquesadillamondillajones -Classic! Don can’t blame nifty for that game as he scored 2goals and an assist.
Which game was that?

#16 should've been retired not just for Nifty, but for The Turk! Both Middleton and Sanderson should've been honored when #16 was hung up there.
By some miracle of modern medicine, "Nifty" now has more hair than he did when he played 20 years ago :-)
Interesting.....TD Garden, sponsored by the Toronto-Dominion Bank.
Félicitation a M.Middleton, c'est un très grand honneur
I’m at the game right now
Now put him in HOF, if Shutt, Carbonneau, McDonald are in then no brainer
A pretty fair tribute.

Ken Hodge for Rick Middleton. Now that's a trade!
Cam Neely for Barry Pederson was another!!!
@@jessetombstone7773 Agreed. Park and Ratelle for Esposito and Vadnais was another steal for Bruins. I won't talk about the bad deals.
And WHO made all of those one-sided, great trades? GM Harry Sinden, one of the sharpest hockey minds ever - and don't ever forget it.
@@4orrcountry And now we've got Sweeney.
"Yes, & The Espisito Trade vs Jean Rattelle?"
Can't believe it's been 15 years since Bruins last got another # retired.
Guess whos back?! #40
God...I Love Hockey....:):):)

He didn't put on his B's sweater.

wow
5:10 what’s up with Chara’s eyes?
Matt Bowen he’s baked
Next should be the Hall of Fame which is LONG OVERDUE!!!!
02:41 Jim Craig?
I'll tell you one thing...he had a good hair doctor....
deputyduffy -Taka a look at the video when Nifty played for The Rangers. He had the free flowing locks going on!
back when he played for the Rangers......so did I.........................lol
Nifty is my license plate
This was great but leaving past 11 was not haha
1
He was a better Ranger. Go Rangers.
Chungas Revenge Fuck the Rangers
Come on; he didn't do much in NY.
The Bruins got him from the Rangers for a washed up Ken Hodge.
This guy was a bum. Tonelli was a much better winger yet doesn’t get the credit Middleton gets.
Tonelli wasn't even a first line player.
