  • Ends up I was wrong about the Viper Mini, and it has in fact been replaced by the Razer Cobra Pro/Cobra Wired. How incredibly disappointing and a massive miss from Razer. In today’s video I admit how I was wrong and clarify the points that I got wrong. Along with update some of the things I’ve found since the previous video came out and the products have dropped.

    Hey Thomas, have you seen the Razer huntsman V3 pro? For some reason it only has a 1000 hz polling rate as the best flagship they offer... Which is weird because if any keyboard would benefit from 4000 -8000 polling rate it would be the rapid optical switches on the huntsman line. Razer recently seem to be missing the mark on perfect products on purpose because they know what we want and they know we are willing to pay for it.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I have seen the Hunstman V3 Pro. The reason I didn’t pick one up is because I wanted 4,000 - 8,000 polling rate. Otherwise, it is essentially equal to the Wooting 60HE that I have.
      However, with that said with the adjustable actuation distance being between 0.1 - 4 mm? I don’t remember the max off the top of my head, it essentially cancels out any improvement you see with 4,000/8,000 Hz compared to the competition. Which you could argue why do that when the different sizes, RGB, dedicated media keys, etc. which outclasses the competition (assuming it is as good as Wooting) and can be found way easier already gives them a good competitive advantage.
      Also, I wonder if there is a tech limitation of faster hertz with tracking granular movement. As even Wooting reports that if they have their RGB too bright or to variable that it can effect the tech from working as intended. As I’m wondering if it would cause stability issues and that is why they chose to go with 1,000 Hz instead.
      But regardless, if they would have added 8,000 Hz polling and key scanning it would have been game over for me on the perfect keyboard. As it would have the adjustable actuation, great RGB, dedicated media keys, doubleshot keys, different sizes, along with the buffed internals of more customized keyboards (that I want to keep seeing on commercial boards). Wish it would have happened and the only reason I didn’t immediately pick it up is because at this point there isn’t enough different to justify that to me. And still don’t know if it competes with Wooting still. But am seeing more companies copy Wootings adjustable keys and instant reset. But still find this as a win for most consumers. As I love Wooting, think they have a great product, and like to support smaller organizations that do stuff well. But for most people the wait times to get the keyboard (I think mine took like 3 - 6 months) is crazy and the fact I can go to the store and get something equal or perhaps better isn’t lost on me. But it is curious on how Razer could be getting these HUGE wins but continue to make little things that kind of ruin them. It’s like they get 95% of the way there and then just stop.
      1. Cobra Pro and not giving a normal/budget Razer Viper Mini Ultimate.
      2. Razer Viper V3 Hyperspeed having an external battery. (Likely to allow it to hit the insane $70 price point so I think I get it).
      3. Huntsman V3 Pro only supporting 1,000 Hz.

    Early this year I got the Basilisk V3 Pro and it was fantastic for work, I got the Mouse Dock Pro too. However, for gaming I felt the Basilisk was bigger than what I needed, it did not feel it as an extension of my hand. Yet, the other smaller Razer mice were not compatible with the dock so I waited. Then the Cobra Pro was released and it was exactly what I wanted in a gaming mouse. From 9am to 6pm I use the Basilisk, but when it is time to kill monsters in my spare time, the Cobra Pro is in my hand.

      I too use my Basilisk V3 Pro for normal browsing/use on my PC and LOVE it. And then switch to a different mouse when I'm gaming. I do think the Basilisk is technically excellent for gaming (as the internals are top notch), but agree that the weight and balance (to a certain extent) don't make it ideal as I think you nailed it when you said it doesn't feel like an extension of your hand. Like the other "gaming focused" mice do.
      But thank you for giving your two cents! I'm glad you are enjoying the Cobra Pro so much. Can I ask what drew you specifically to that mouse over the others? As personally, one of the reasons why I love the Basilisk is that it is just so attractive to look at with all the RGB and the Cobra Pro is similar.

      @@jeehoonkim5429 definitely a different size, you probably could have gotten the OG lamzu instead if you wanted it bigger. In my own experience from the viper mini wired, the lamzu atlantis has a more comfortable claw shape than the viper. But you do you.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes, there is a good size difference. I don't have the Atlantis Mini but the Viper Mini to the Viper V2 Pro is roughly 25 - 33% longer and wider. The OG Atlantis is wider than the Viper, has a much more pronounced hump, but is maybe like 5% shorter. So I think the V2 Pro would help by flattening out the hump and being a bit less wide. Even though it would be slightly longer. I've got 19x11.5 cm hands. If that helps at all.
      As for @billy_the_frog I find that I'm the opposite of him. Where I think the Viper shape is better for claw (and especially fingertip) than the Lamzu Atlantis. But also, am not a fan of the Atlantis shape. Which I think highlights that mice really are personal preference and opinions will always vary. The only right answer, is whatever you come up with from your own research and findings. And sometimes you don't know until you've tried it out. Thankfully, depending on where you buy it if you don't like the Razer shape you should be able to either A. Return it. Or B. Sell it on the third party market rather easily at a slight loss.

    The cobra wired is an improved rvm wired it has a low lod, gen 3 optical, and a slightly lower weight the only downside is it's using a kailh black encoder which breaks easily, razer used it in the rvm wired and they still use it on the cobra wired.only thing I want is a rvm shape wired with a high end specs but the cobra wired didn't do that for me but at least it has a low lod. Btw I think there is still a hope for a rvm there is a leak viper v3 hyperspeed, obviously it will come in a pro version and hopefully a wired version too, I hope razer will make a rvm v3 and a dav3 mini

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 9 měsíci

      Appreciate the great rundown and your two cents! Fair points on the lower LOD. While I agree the lower LOD can make a big difference I still think that the Cobra is a bigger miss than the Cobra Pro. As like you said no top of the line specs. As for the switches, their Gen 1, to Gen 2, to Gen 3 switches are tighter tolerances, making me not think that is actually much of an upgrade but more of a marketing ploy, as if you don't have a crap switch on either end of the bell curve, or one that isn't defective, they will feel the same. As for the weight, 61 vs 58 is negligible. For the price increase it makes it hard to justify in my opinion.
      Usually, their "hyperspeed" lineup is the "budget" version. With them just recently releasing the V2 Pro I'd be surprised if they are coming out with a V3 Pro so soon. Plus, those mice continue to be the best on the market spec wise still. In that same vein, with the V2 recently dropping I'd think the new Viper Hyperspeed to be V2 not V3? But I haven't seen the leaks and could totally be wrong.
      But I'm with you. It would be nice to get both of those other mice. And I'm looking forward to whatever they are releasing.

Everything from the weight to the sensor and shape is exceptional. the only thing i prefer on the glorious is the slightly smaller size, but that is a trade off i am happy to make. The only thing that can push this to the next level is the razer viper mini like the signature edition for the perfect mice, but why would they create the perfect mice when it would put all their other products to shame. Razer has made great progress this last year and have just ruined it with this shady cobra release. I am disappointed.

      They have definitely had a lot of bangers recently. I think this is one of their biggest misses. But to answer your question of "why would they create the perfect mouse", I think you undervalue personal preference. If the Viper Mini Wireless (the one we want) were to release, it may be perfect for a handful of people. But it certainly wouldn't be perfect for everyone. As for mice the preferences of what people like/dislike are all over the place. I think their other products would be just fine. I also, don't think it would disrupt the market all that much. But I do think that it would make a lot of their customers happy. While also forcing other companies to take small mice more seriously (in the spec department).

    Well said. I’m not much of one for Razer products in general besides my Naga Trinity that I use for when I have a hankering for MMOs (otherwise, all of my gear is Corsair related..)
    Plus I have large hands. Small mice don’t work for me well and the mice provided at work are already small as it is, so my hands occasionally cramp at the end of the day.
    I currently use a Corsair Nightsword with a small balance weight placed in it and I love it for what it does, no complaints whatsoever since I purchased it a little over two years ago.

      That's fair. Corsair does seem to focus more on large mice that are on the heavier end. But they are attractive looking. Razer definitely is more medium size and performance focused (lightweight) in general.
      I'm lucky and have never experienced hand cramping from mice. But would imagine that would be highly frustrating. Next time we are working together remind me and I'll give you one of my Razer mice to use for the day and you can give me your thoughts afterwards. If you're interested.

    Razer has been tone deaf lately with their community. Dont get me wrong, Im no fanboy for any brand but I like some of the things Razer produces, the Viper Mini and Ultimate being one of those great products. There is so much community outcry for a Viper Mini Wireless with the og shell but we get a Cobra and an expensive Viper Mini Signature that seems to want to be on that Finalmouse drop hype train which just pisses me off. I had the opportunity to actually borrow my friends Signature Viper and yeah, I liked it alot, but not enought to be apart of some limited drop and spend that kind of money. Razer really needs to listen community feedback and quit doing the exact opposite of what we as gamers want.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I agree. They were doing a great job at actually listening to the community and released some banger mice. And then it seems like all the sudden they stopped. And surprise surprise, it seems like those products haven't been as successful.
      But I was looking at Reviews for the Cobra Pro on Best Buy earlier today and found it interesting that the Cobra Pro has like 3/5 stars. But the comments are almost 50/50 in the like to dislike ratio. Which makes me wonder if our perspective is a bit one-sided. As from our perspective this seems like a failure of a mouse. But from the dislike ratio on that mouse it seems like commercially they are enjoying it. Also, I've gotten a few comments already on this video about how people really enjoy the Cobra Pro and don't mind the weight (which isn't too surprising to me as I previously said I think the Cobra Pro will be a banger for casuals and the mass market but not so much for the niche/enthusiast/pro market).
      Basically, my point there being while it seems like Razer isn't listening to feedback. I wonder if they actually are listening, they just aren't replying/releasing things that our specific niche is interested in. But everyone else is. And I don't have the right answer for that one yet.
      As for the Viper Mini SE. Totally get where you are coming from. Not disagreeing. But from my perspective (as someone who is a little too into mice, and spends way to much money on them) I absolutely LOVE the Viper Mini SE and it is by far my favorite mouse ever. And I don't regret buying it. And think they did a killer job with it. Even if it definitely was NOT the price I wanted to pay.

    @Maddog-xc2zv Před 10 měsíci

    I agree and disagree. I don't like the holes in the viper se, as I think RGB is stupid for a top tier mouse as it adds weight. Still I see the Cobra as a good and respectful successor for the viper mini 2. Sure adds, RGB because it's a trademark for most costumers. but saying it weights 78gr, you're not being totaly fair. Try to weight it without the metalic disc that connects to the charger and you'll lose some grams, at least to 74 or even 72 - more close to a much bigger (and fabulous, I own one) deathadder V3 pro. I already got the mouse with the hiperpolling, I'll may say more when it arrives. But as you said it in part 1 and 2 of this video, the cobra is like a mouse to try to please mainstream and some less deep pocketed pro gamers. Top tier specs, but I think it's time to the razer community to accept wireless, weight and RGB does not go along at least during the present tech days. Also, I see there's also a exacerbated, in opinion, feeling for another launch of a budget and mini V2, high specs and lighter than the cobra, but that seems also a fantasy some fail to get out of, as the market is always what makes great products come to light, including inner and outer competition, and I'm sure after I experiment the Cobra pro I will be delighted and it will pair perfectly with the DAV3P and my Basilisk Ultimate, the cobra pro and the dav3p more in line to complement and also different task in different games, and the Basilisk as a great everyday life mouse. Great and opposite/not so opposite parts of the video. Will keep tracking you. Cheers.

      First, I appreciate you doing such a great rundown of your thoughts. Greatly enjoyed reading through it. Also, thanks for checking out BOTH videos!
      Understand how the holes can be very hit or miss for people. Personally, I don’t mind. But the ones on the Viper Mini SE are the biggest I’ve ever seen. Surprisingly, you don’t really feel them as the sides are solid and the way the mouse is angled your palm doesn’t really rest against them. Which is nice. Agreed on the RGB for performance-oriented mice.
      As for the Cobra Pro Weight. 78 grams with the puck, 76 grams without it. And I think you tapped upon one issue that some people are perplexed about of the Deathadder V3 Pro is a lot bigger, but lighter at 64 grams. You alluded to as of why (puck, wireless charging, rubber sides, RGB). But sometimes people forget to use their brains and instead let their emotions take control.
      I agree on wireless + RGB + Other Features means it is going to be heavier. I think most of the community understands that. I think the issue is that people have been asking quite vocally for years now for a lightweight, performance-oriented Viper Mini. Then they released the Viper Mini SE for $279 which is out of reach for most people and came with holes. Said they had more variants of the Mini coming at better price ranges and released the Cobra Pro. But again, it wasn’t what they were looking for (rubber sides, RGB, 78 gram weight). Then said nothing else was coming out. By have spent years on Reddit saying that the Viper Mini that the community wanted was coming. I think they have a right to feel shafted, but don’t think they should be overly negative and aggressive towards Razer and their products because they didn’t get exactly what they wanted. But I do agree that a lot of people are stuck in the mindset of a fantasy that may never come to be and need to get over it and move on.
      Also, agree that I think the Cobra Pro will be a great choice for a lot of people and the ones who don’t like it are probably part of a vocal minority. That it should pair greatly with your DAV3 and Basilisk Ultimate. I would love to hear your actual thoughts on the Cobra Pro once it comes in and you try it out!

      @@ThomasMuehler thanks for your kind words. After testing the cobra pro I may extend my thoughts about it, sure. Your passion is inspiring and if I can contribute a little bit to these great, and mostly civilised discussions in a channel I really appreciate, why not? See you soon thanks for answering, again addressing very good points that are dividing the community, and for the interest in my opinion about the mouse experience. But do note I’m just a curious and not an expert :)

    Cobra > Viper
    I have the Viper v2 pro, it's slightly too light and feels cheap because of this, it's too plain and boring compair to the rest of the setup, you have allways to plug her in to charge and it's a bit too big for my hands.
    The cobra solves everything.

      Good point on it being very plain and boring. I don't think I've ever necessarily thought of it that way. But totally see where you're coming from.
      Battery life for the Cobra is certainly surprising at the rated 100 hours.
      All in all, greatly appreciate your opinion and breakdown. I'm glad you found something that works so good for you.
