Christopher Nolan's Top Ten Films Ranked

- Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of his generation. Here is the definitive list of his ten best films. I have seen so many Nolan rankings over the years but never agreed with the critics rankings so I wanted to make my own definitive list.
So much of movie viewing is subjective so not everyone is going to agree but I feel extremely confident in my list and am excited to see where Oppenheimer is going to fit in once it drops next year.
Until then, leave a comment below with your own rankings, i would love to see your thoughts. - Zábava
Interstellar is one of the best films of all time. As a 38 year old man, I cry TWICE during the movie. But you are right, the father/daughter relationship is the heart of the film.
Murph > Tom
We’re the same age and we cried the same number of times and the father daughter relationship was a killer 😢
Im same of ur age. And every time i see the movie. I still cry. It’s definitely the best film ever of all time
Same here. Agree
i cry watching terminator 2 @@alameri500ify
1-- Interstellar
2--Inception
3--The Dark Knight
4--The Prestige
5--Dunkirk
6-- The Dark Knight Rises
7--Memento
8--Batman Begins
9-- Tenet
10--Insomnia
Love the list. Beauty of movies is the subjectivity of viewing
There's the actual list
Mine's very similar except it goes like this:
1. Prestige
2. Interstellar
3. Inception
4. Memento
5. Dark Knight Rises
6. The Dark Knight
7. Dunkirk
8. Batman Begins
9. Tenet
I still haven't watched Insomnia buy I believe it will rank higher than half the movies here
@@adityanarain9428 how is Dark knight rises and memento above the Dark knight
@@MiloDuvold-yz1iq TDK is a movie spooled with many interesting concepts and raises many eyebrows with it's unusual and rather mature manner of handling conflict between a protagonist and an antagonist. The impulsive, instinctive nature of mankind to respond to immediate dangers with fear, villains that have no motive or stake so they go all out, how the judicial and executive (government) systems incorporated
in America and in Gotham are deeply flawed and require constant amendments, how good men turn corrupt due to emotions, paranoia after the events of 9/11, and most importantly what defines a hero.
Ignoring this, the movie was a pretentious mess. Audio mixing is horrible, most dialogues were pretentious and way too expository, chugging in information without allowing the audiences to process it well, on that note pacing was all over the place. Action scenes were clunky, and Bale's voice would've been ripped on the internet of it came today. Some plot holes especially the ferry scenes. It's movie with legendary concepts, Heath Ledger and Michael Caine. Beyond that it's a Shyamalan remake.
After watching and understanding tenet, I started believing that Nolan is one of the best brains in this world.
It's just crazy how he can think like that and ofc, present it in an unbelievable way.
Of the movies I’ve watched-
1- Interstellar
2- The dark knight
3- The prestige
4- Inception
-Oppenheimer
5- tenet
6- memento
7- Dunkirk
8- the dark knight rises
9- batman begins
No matter some cringey dialogue, interstellar has my favourite soundtrack of all time, the docking scene is my favourite scene of all time, my favourite visuals of all time and my favourite jumpscare of all time, and unlike many other Nolan films it also has the emotional punch
U gotta watch the prestige
@@enocloke24 I’ll update it now, since I’ve watched Dunkirk and the prestige now
@@zenthous9568 hell ya glad you liked it.
@@enocloke24 yeah it was awesome, Dunkirk was so-so for me though, still great but I probably wasn’t the target audience anyway
@@zenthous9568 same I thought it was great visually but I don’t rank it very high on my top ten either lol
Glad to see so many defending Interstellar, definitely in my top 5 Nolan films
Inception and Memento are my favorites. I can always watch Memento no matter how many times but Inception makes me beg to have my memories wiped so that I can watch it again like it's the first time
Always fun to watch them
Exactly 💯. Even today I have a hard time naming another most favorite movie of mine other than Memento. That movie is extraordinary. Inception was a great one too.
The Dark Knight rises was still great, the ending was perfect for this version of batman, I honestly thought you were joking and you were gonna say that you weren't serious
The Dark Knight Rises is a excellent movie,a helpless Bruce Wayne being a human
Yea I think it was a fine movie
Idk why it get as much hate as it does
1. Memento
2. Interstellar
3. Inception
4. Dark Knight
5. Dunkirk
6. The Prestige
7. Batman Begins
8. Insomnia
9. Dark Knight Rises
10. Tenet
11. The Following
I'm guessing you're in your early twenties.. when you get older, you'll appreciate Interstellar as what it is... not only the best Nolan film but one of the best films of all times.
Thank you for watching
Interstellar at 8th, oh nooo I can't bear tha pain
1. Interstellar 2.The dark night 3.Inception is his top three, in that order
People love interstellar but it wasn’t for me. Thanks for watching!
I think interstellar is great but a little overrated, it’s easily his beat looking and sounding film with Zimmers best score, the performances are amazing. But its pretty flawed and not the perfect masterpiece interstellar fans make it out to be, there are one too many plot point that really drags out what is a 2 hour and 15 minute film at most to an almost 3 hour film. It isn’t very subtle in its themes and has a bit to much exposition that isn’t really done right. With that being said, this guys review wasn’t really that great as he more or less just took every film at face value saying some films are just fun or have great set pieces or have great action and that’s really it so I don’t blame you for disagreeing with this guy.
@@BlindTakes good video btw but yeah here's the thing with interstellar. The emotion the movie portrayed was very moving and the concept for the movie was outstanding. Plus ik the video was abt Nolan but I mean, cmon Hanz Zimmers best performance ever outstanding
@@BlindTakes I think it might be a little over rated but I still think it's my number one Nolan film. My favorite movie is Blade Runner 2049 but interstellar still did many things right and definitely is an A tier movie
@@Prodbyjah464 no examples of why it was so bad? no argument here just excuses.
Inception may just be my favorite movie ever made
Im am very sorry, I agree with this except, Interstellar should be the top, I mean it is very accurate to what we know about how the universe works, the music just hit different, and the special effects, I mean come on that thing is just INCREDIBLE.
1. Interstellar
2.Inception
3.Dark Knight
4.Prestige
5.Tenet
6.Dunkirk
7.TDKR
8.Memento
9.Batman Begins
10.Insomnia
It’s not a bad list but I would make a few tweaks:
1. The Dark Knight
2. Memento
3. Dunkirk
4. Inception
5. The Prestige
6. Interstellar (sure there is cringey dialogue about love but the pros definitely outweigh it. As you said about Tenet, “It’s highs are higher and one hell of a ride.”
7. Batman Begins
8. Insomnia
9. Following
10. The Dark Knight Rises
11. Tenet (so many flaws. I won’t deny it’s fun but everything else doesn’t work for me and also his other films outcompete Tenet).
Should I watch Dunkirk?
totally.
Tenet has a great concept of portraying how confusing time travel would be, but its so confusing it deters the fans that arent die hard
Tenet is Nolan at his best, hot take.
I KEEP ON TRYNA TELL PEOPLE 😭😭😭😭
1. The Dark Knight
2. Inception
3. The Prestige
4. Dunkirk
5. Interstellar
6. Batman Begins

I have only seen 5 Christopher Nolan movies and here's my ranking of them

1, Dark knight

3, Interstellar
4, dunkirk
5, momento
My all time favourite top 5 for nolan.
His movies have a level of sophistication and depth. Truly refreshing, considering all the other crap out there. Intelligent people need movies to enjoy to.
My personal list:
1. Inception
2. The Prestige
3. The Dark Knight
4. Interstellar
5. Tenet } These 3 are tied
6. Dunkirk
7. The Dark Knight Rises
8. Batman Begins
Haven't seen Memento or Insomnia yet.
My List is similar
1. The Prestige 5/5
2. The Dark Knight 5/5
3. Tenet 5/5
4. Memento 4.5/5
5. Dunkirk 4/5
6. Inception 4/5
7. Batman Begins 4/5
8. The Dark Knight Rises 4/5
9. Interstellar 4/5
10. Insomnia 3.5/5
I think only Interstellar and TDKR are Nolan's remotely subpar movies. But because of their visuals and score, and the IMAX experience I would put them as 4/5.
For the Prestige, I find something new in every rewatch. And Tenet is just so cool
I could see how the prestige is number 1 for you. It’s a truly intriguing film. Completely agree on TDKR, it’s a complete mess
@@BlindTakes I read the Prestige novel by Christopher Priest. I appreciated the movie so much more because the story works so much better the way it's told in the movie. One of the few instances of the movie being better than the book
@@illustriousindividual1077 one of the VERY few instances when this happens. That’s why Nolan is so special

Of the ones I’ve seen this is my list:
1. The Dark Knight
2. Inception
3. Interstellar
4. The Prestige
5. Tenet
6. The Dark Knight Rises
7. Batman Begins
8. Dunkirk
Batman Begins above Interstellar is wild. But I still watched the entire video, so that says something. Well done.
“Stir up some controversy” was a bit of an understatement
1: Inception
2: Oppenheimer
3: Memento
4: The Dark Knight
5: The Prestige
6: Dunkirk
7: Batman Begins
8: Tenet
9: Interstellar
10: Insomnia
The Prestige is Nolan's most underrated film. Inception is his best and Memento will go down as a cult classic.
Not sure how you can criticize the clunky expository dialogue of Interstellar but then put Tenet at 3. I feel like that movie was 70% exposition. But hey, everyone likes what they like

1. The Dark Knight
Dark knight rises‘ ending one of the best endings ever. Bane’s voice not stupid is so creative and iconic. There are lots of nonsense in whole comic book universe till Batman recover in that prison, so you need to skip that part. Your name is great by the way, it perfectly suits you. Because you can’t see anything.

8. Tenet
7. Dunkirk
6. Interstellar
5. Batman begins
4. The prestige
3. Memento
2. Inception
1. The dark knight - the goat
Seriously, Interstellar at 8. Have you really seen movies for Cinematic Experience. The thing that separates Interstellar from other Nolan movies is that connection and love for father and daughter and why would the dialogues would be wrong as it is true that love transcends between dimensions. Interstellar is the most accurate movie that has been specified by many scientists and it was also coordinated by Kip Thorne. Interstellar gives the best Cinematic Experience that takes us through space, affection, outstanding visuals, suspense and love. Interstellar cannot be compared with other movies. So try to support this film and get this movie the fame that it deserves...♥️

How on earth do you say Dark Knight rises is so bad yet its the highest grossing of his films. Sometimes fans don't need to critique everything to death, what is this narrative that Banes voice is bad?
I just can't believe you put Interstellar in number 8. That is such an insult to this masterpiece of a film
Stand by the ranking
😂inception isn't even close to Hans' best score. Sure, Time is iconic and absolutely one of, if not his best composition, but that doesn't make the whole score his best. Intestellar has more ideas, is more original... Spirit is from back when he still explored thematic writing... overall there are plenty of scores he's written that are better, they just don't have the stand-out piece like Time. I could go into more details, but only if you're interested in my opinion and hearing some of the musical academic reasoning behind it...
My (albeit constantly changing) ranking for Hans Zimmer's scores is as follows right now, though I admit there are many scores I haven't listened to very much)
Interstellar
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises
Top Gun Maverick
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Inception
Spirit (if it was longer, I'd have it above many of these entries, but as it stands, It's just a little short.
My personal list of songs is a little more straightforward though, doesn't change too much
Time
Run Free
No Time For Caution
Journey To The Line
Like a Dog Chasing Cars
Darkstar
Zoosters Breakout
Up Is Down
Day One
Cornfield Chase
Pauls' Dream

@@BlindTakes Thanks! I'm an aspiring media composer, so I really try to pick apart and analyze scores to see things in more detail and specificity.
😂Top Gun is likely more temporary. It's a really nice return to thematic writing, but admittedly it's not the most groundbreaking score. But, it's good nonetheless and highly memorable. I walked out of the theater whistling one of the tunes and with a giant grin on my face. if a score does that, it at least deserves a top spot temporarily.
