CGI means Computer-Generated Imagery, means a specific thing: entire images produced using computer. Gargantua in Interstellar is CGI, digitally remove the cables holding McConaughey in the tesseract isn't CGI.
There's no CGI in Oppenheimer, not a single image was digitally produced. They used digital VFX to modify some details on shot, for example to remove cables or so. Anyway the VFX shot in Oppenheimer are around 200, a lot less than Parasite for example. You simply can't use CGI with IMAX without losing quality.
      Invisible CGI is an oxymoron.

Oh for sure, but first of all, those sets didn't have to hold up to scrutiny under the immense detail of IMAX cameras, but also, the industry has really changed. Studios don't like it, investors don't like it, it's much more expensive mainly because craft workers are generally unionized and receive fair wage while CGI artists are often pushed and exploited without repercussions. It's been done in the past, and on this scale, too, but to do it in the modern industry is a feat in itself
