    Your plants are beautiful. At first when you put those two small Monstera’s in all that soil, I thought you were nuts. But Monstera grow fast and have robust rooting systems. You can’t do that with every plant. Especially the watering daily. But you definitely have something working for you 👍🏽

    • @junglenook
      @junglenook  Před 11 měsíci +10

      I now realize I need to make more videos going into greater depth as to how and why I do what I do. I really thought everyone would just think I was nuts. I'm a little worried that people are just going to start watering daily and expect their plants to grow like crazy. I need to make sure they understand drainage, temperature, humidity and lighting. Thanx for watching.

    I switched from Neem Oil to Insecticidal Soap. The neem oil would discolor the leaves on some of my plants even though I would spray at night and these plants are in the shade. Systemic granules have been awesome for me too. I found Insecticidal soap to be much more effective for the spider mites I deal with

    • @junglenook
      @junglenook  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Great tip! Yes I totally agree insecticidal soaps are much more effective

    • @Christlover23

      Same. I sprayed neem oil on my philo paraiso verde and the next day all my big beautiful leaves were yellow and oily. Ruined 😢

    • @lilian7089
      @lilian7089 Před 10 měsíci

      spider mites are not insects so Insecticidal soap may not be effective.

      And by the way… thank you for mentioning my favorite granular insecticide, BONIDE! I swear by that stuff. It’s the only effective way to have houseplants and NOT have fungus gnats and other pests. Well; it’s not the only way, it’s just the most effective method. It lasts just about as long as Osmocote or other granulated fertilizers. 3-6 months. All these Plant-Tubers are running around worrying about their plants, the spider mites, thrips, etc., and yet I’ve heard only three people recommend Bonide Systemic Insect Houseplant control. It’s just a godsend. I’ve used it since 2008. Indoors or outdoors for potted, it truly works. I don’t find that it takes a while to start to work, though. It’s fairly fast-acting… some ppl talk about watering with Mosquito Bits, and while that works, Bonide is just too good! I guess I shouldn’t be talking-it-up so much, lest everyone find out and buy it all off the shelf!

    I water my monsteras twice a month. I water most of my tropical plants twice a month. My mix is mostly tree bark. That way I avoid root rot.

    • @junglenook
      @junglenook  Před 11 měsíci +5

      I've use tree bark as well, usually I added it to potting soil and I watered 2 or 3 times a month as well and the plants grow just fine with no problems. Now I trying to reproduce the natural growing conditions to try to get them to grow at the same speed as they do in their native climate. Doing this I've seen a dramatic increase in growth and overall size. Thanx for watching and commenting. :0

    To deal with reflection when filming glass, try a 'polarizing' or 'polarizer' filter :) you can get a clip-on version for phones also. It's like magic, completely removes refractions/reflections from glass or shiny surfaces while filming. Hope this helps

    Your simple yet thorough explanation of how you take care of your luscious and good looking plants is much appreciated. 🙏👍❤️
    I also use neem oil to treat a varieties of bugs , but I learned from a CZcamsr and make my own solution (1 quart of water, 1.5 teaspoons of neem oil, 1 teaspoon peppermint castile soap, 5-10 drops peppermint essential oil.) It would cost a little more up front to buy the ingredients, but it’s much more economical if you have a large collection if plants to treat . As long as you don’t expose the plants to direct sunlight, I find that the leaves won’t be damaged after the treatment.

    • @junglenook
      @junglenook  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Thank you and thanx for the tip. The solution you are suggesting would work just fine and would be a much more enjoyable fragrance then just the Neem oil :)

    These plants are gorgeous -
    I used to be “into” plants when I lived in Miami (back in the early 2000’s), but I got out of it a little after I moved from Florida.
    But I miss all these gorgeous, lush plants !
    I have a few plants in my home now, mostly succulents (some of which I’m trying to propagate right now) along with some monstera, polka dot plants, Pythos and some others -
    Your tips are greatly appreciated !!
    I ordered perlite and neems oil - can’t wait to see the results. :))

    You’ve got a very beautiful collection! I don’t see any yellow or damaged leaves or anything! Don’t think I could water my Monstera or others daily without getting root rot. We have air conditioning in the summer and the water in the plants doesn’t evaporate quickly at all. Only my babies, but even then it’s every 3-5 days
    I just had to take every plant I own into our bathroom tub and sprayed them first with insecticide, then after drying I washed the foliage with a homemade antibacterial and antifungal and neem oil. Systemic in the soil after too, I had a whole mix of spider mites fungus gnats and mealy bugs!
    And now? We have fruit flies cause we live around fruit orchards and have tons of fruit at home! 🤦‍♀️

    • @junglenook
      @junglenook  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thank you for sharing and after the systemic gets into the plants you should have a lot less work on your hands, I would suggest spraying them a couple of times a wk. for 2 or 2 wks. The things we do for our green friends :)

    Your plants are gorgeous! I have a nice-sized monstera in a 12-14” terracotta pot. I may have used coco coir in the soil mixture … maybe so since it seems to dry out sooner than I’d anticipated. My mixture includes pumice, orchid bark, and charcoal. So I’m gonna try watering more often. I’m also experimenting with bottom watering. Thanks to your video, I’m now comfortable with the pot size of cuttings from the big monstera. Thanks for sharing your care routine.

    I was using the systemic for a while and for me the spider mites came back like no other. I’ve had several people tell me their spider mite problems got way worse after using it. I’ve discovered for me the best way to get rid of them and keep them away is to shower them every time you water and water with a very diluted neem oil mix.

      Hello, Thats a great tip. Sadly, we have a well, and the water is very hard. When we first got the place and moved the plants in, I was misting the plants and within a few weeks all the leaves were covered with calcium residue. It took me a couple of months to remove it. The well water also caused calcium deposits on the heating elements in my humidifiers, that's one of the reasons I stopped using them. Luckly, hard water with a high Ph is great for the tanks I like to run, and the plants love the minerals, especially the iron. The tanks and daily watering take care of my humidity needs. I have taken some of the plants outside and sprayed them on the deck before or during rain, that seems to work well for me. I don't really know how I feel about using systemics. I'm curious about what it does to all the beneficial life in the soil and how that may affect the overall growth and health. But using the systemics I've never had an out brake of anything but spider mites. Now I'm a little afraid to stop using it. I catch the mites pretty quick, and 1 or 2 treatments works for me and never had them on more the one plant at a time. Thanks for the tip!

      @@junglenook by what I understand the systimic kills the beneficial bacteria and benificial insects/pollinators. So it’s recommended not to use if outdoors. I’m not 100% sure on that though, I quit using just in case. Spider mites is really the only pests I’ve dealt with for extent periods of time. Definitely the hardest for me to get rid of
