Gist : The twelfth pathigam expresses a desire to overcome life's sorrows through devotion to Lord Nataraja, expressed as a joyful dance and chanting of the Lord’s name. Lord Shiva symbolizes cosmic creation and destruction. By celebrating His leelas and chanting together, we can connect with the divine, and progress on a collective journey towards spiritual fulfillment.

Thiruvempavai’ are a set of twenty songs that are sung in Shiva temples in the month of Margazhi. The songs are sung early in the morning, one on every day, followed by ten songs of the ‘Thirupalliyeluchi’.
The paavai songs are part of an ancient tradition amongst unmarried young girls, where they would light lamps in the early mornings of Margazhi, and sing songs in praise of Lord Shiva. It was believed that such rituals would bring prosperity and a suitable husband.
The ‘Thiruvempavai’ songs, along with the ‘Thiruppavai’ songs composed in honour of Lord Vishnu, resound in temples across Tamil Nadu during the cold days of December and January. The songs are even sung during the coronation of the King of Thailand!
The twenty songs of the ‘Thiruvempavai’ form a part of the ‘Thiruvasakam’, a set of ancient Tamil hymns that date back to the 9 CE, and were composed in Annamalaiyar temple by the poet-saint Manickavasagar. Each song in the ‘Thiruvempavai’ is a fervent expression of the poet's deep devotion and surrender to the divine, and quest for spiritual enlightenment.
The songs are written as conversations between a sleeping maiden, reluctant to wake up early, and her friends who try to persuade her to accompany them to the temple.

Only in this Thiruvembavai series from Madhu Iyer, not only I get single pasuram in each video, but also meaning in English translation. Thiruvembavai is written in ancient sacred Tamil. Without meaning in English, in others rendition of Thiruvembavai in You Tube, I only get ritual singing for the season which has very limited value. In these series, Madhu Iyer put the effort to translate and provide the meaning, a great contribution to this generation and generations to come in future. 🙏🏽 This is indeed a divine work.

What better song in ragam sankarabaranam than from the movie sankarabaranam (1980) which was one of the highlights of SPB's career.
    Omkara Naadhaalu Sandhaana Mow Gaanamae...Sankarabaranamu...
Madhu's rendition an aabaranam for Sankara.

Certainly the 5 facets of nature being earth, water, fire, wind and sky are controlled by some supernatural power which people of each religion name it their way. Music conveys together all these facets of nature through expressing each feel in a unique style !! Again, well sung Sis !! You keep scaling greater heights with every Margazhi !!
