This 2008 Pontiac G8 GT has an interesting story

  • I bought another Pontiac G8 flood car, but it seems there are a few problems with the flood claim. The more I look at it the less it seems like this was actually involved in a flood and more likely involved in some insurance fraud. In case you were wondering the car does have 111,114 miles on it since I failed to mention that in the video.

An alternative theory on the history is that the car, with the 6.0, was flooded. Then, someone bought the flood car, removed the trashed 6.0, and decided to put in the 5.3 from his rusted-out truck. After struggling with that, realized it was a futile effort for such a worthless car, and sent the thing for auction/junk. The insurance knows it as a flood car, so the label sticks until someone updates them, which nobody ever did since it was not back on the road.

Saw your comment on insurance adjusters so I thought I would share this funny(I think) story. We had to train adjusters one day being a direct repair shop. I had to demonstrate how to pull a frame on this '95 Nissan Sentra rear rail extension. It was down for replacement so it didn't matter if I ripped a chunk out of it. Which I did as I explained how dangerous frame work can be and how that is the reason for charging more. I had it on a AutoRobot. You know the rickity machine with the 8' damage dozer. Pop pop pop KABAM. Two of the trainee's were last seen running to their cars. Both called in and quit their jobs. Soooooo the head honcho in charge of the insurance companies direct repair program wanted to have a chat with me. This was a $100k a month account. Needless to say my boss was mortified. When aske by said head honcho why I did it told him. "Just separating the wheat from the chaff sir". He offered me a job. I told hin no. Can't afford the pay cut.

That's a parts car at this point. And those hood vents will sell for a premium.

I just spent $350 for a new set of them, you’re not kidding! Many body parts for the G8 are getting scarce.

It sounded good. I’m sure someone wanted the motor and took it and put the 5.3 back in then they flooded the 5.3 to make it look like flooded damage so they could claim it on insurance. Was such a good looking car too. Oh well atleast u got good clean body parts for ur project. Glad u got a good motor

When you said you only put in 6 liters / quarts - I was going to let you know that the 6.0 needs almost 9! Then you mentioned it was the truck engine - and the G8 original engine must also be a 'bluetooth model' 😉

I think the flooding allowed this poor Commodore to have a dignified death after all its suffering at the hands of the last owner.

I'm thinking someone drowned their truck, bought the G8 for the engine, put the truck engine in and got the whole upgrade paid for by the insurance company.

Right when I saw that alternator and everything not connected I figured it was a junkyard swap to hide it. Seen it before with another CZcamsr. Great video! Let us know what the owner says lol!

Did you know that you can get a peace of pipe, like small conduit pipe and split it length wise just big enough to slip over the rams and cut it off to length and then set it on the rams, it will hold the hood up so it won't keep falling on you. This also works on farm tractors, the loaders.

After spending probably $100.000.00 on tools in my 35+ year career as a master technician I'd say the cheap stuff is just as good or better than the over priced brands that burned my money in my early days trying to impress my friends at the Chevrolet dealership.
