  • The UK & South Africa are very different countries. The cost of living in the UK is double what it is in South Africa. In regards to square mileage, South Africa is 5 times larger than the UK. As a Quantity Surveying Channel, we wanted to see if there were differences relating to our profession also.

    Well we South African quantity surveyors dont stay in South Africa for longer than 2 or 3 years after graduation as the profession is well in demand in most commonwealth countries and is listed on skills shortage lists, the middle east in a popular destination for South African quantity surveyors as well as New Zealand and Australia

    This is a very interesting information, if I may ask. Is it possible for a South African Graduate to get an agency who’ll place him/her in the UK to become a Trainee QS or Assistant QS? Or a company that is willing to help an unemployed graduate.

    • @Metroun
      @Metroun  Před 3 lety +1

      It's very possible to be placed as an assistant or graduate QS in the UK from SA. The difficulty would come in finding your own accommodation and travel as a company is a less likely to pay relocation costs for a junior member of staff compared to say a Senior QS.

    Why is CICES more relevant, and how would I be affected if I chose a uni that isn’t accredited by CICES . The unis I’ve chosen are mostly accredited by CIOB AND RICS and CABE , is that good enough?

    • @Metroun
      @Metroun  Před 3 lety

      CICES is only really relevant if you're planning on working within civil engineering as a Quantity Surveyor, for example in Highways.
      RICS is still by far the most prestigious chartership to be associated with so if your course is accredited by RICS you'll be fine.
      Please remember that the accreditation only really matters if you plan on gaining chartership through these associations. Many QS's go through their entire working lives without having any sort of chartership and have long successful careers.
