What's the difference between a client and contractor's quantity surveyor?

Today I'm talking a bit about my job in construction! If you want to know more about two types of quantity surveyors - client's quantity surveyor (PQS) vs contractor's quantity surveyor (CQS).

Hi Zeeshan, I would say it helps to have competency working with numbers, developing problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking. It also helps being able to use Word and Excel, learning how to use measurement programmes (say Bluebeam, CAD measure, pdf readers like Foxit, Adobe). And of course, developing construction knowledge to have an understanding of how buildings and projects are developed. Hope this helps!

Depends on your preferences, the workplace and the projects you're working on. I've only had experience in quantity surveying on the PQS side but I'm sure construction management is less focused on the specifics of costs and you get a really good hands-on approach and arguably better understanding of construction processes

@@manojgowda5141 yes you can graduate from construction management and find yourself with a QS degree later. There's also site management, commercial management (which can be an alternative name for quantity surveyors on the contractors side), contracts manager, facilities manager and management consultants
