Realm of the Elderlings is a series that's just so good at making you connect with characters in a deep way and really feeling their ups and downs. Robin Hobb is a master at that, and she doesn't get enough credit
I love the passion that you have for this series. It's also one of my favorites. Looking forward to your other videos on it.
I put this book off forever…my boss kept recommending it to me and I kept pushing it off. I loved this, I actually read Name of the Wind first and I have to say this is waaay better than that. I had no idea where she was going, it was so refreshing to read something so original. 👍
Yay! I am very excited for more content related to Robin Hobb books. I read all of the books in the Realm of the Elderlings about a year ago, and I now am constantly searching for any series I enjoy as much as her books without success. It was very interesting to hear your take, and I can't wait for more.
Alright, you convinced me. It's going on my list, I'm reading Wheel of Time currently, but this will come next. So excited it's by a female author too!
Wow. You are incredibly persuasive. The way you have described the author's storytelling/style is compelling. 3 minutes into this video and I'm sold, lol. Buying the first book now.
Ooh, I love fantasy book recs! I would love to see more on this channel in the future :)
This is a fantastic series. I read all 9 of the main Fitz books and loved mostly every page
I read all 9 books over and over again every 5 years or so. The characters became people that I miss over time and have to visit again and again.
Please make more videos! You're great.
I got a big kick out of Kelly McCullough's Fallen Blade series. He has the ability to describe the physical spaces that his characters move through so that you can follow the tremendous amount of action. I have no idea how he does this. And there's humor and an interesting variation of the idea of "familiars" which live in the characters shadows.
Im excited to read this book and series and see why you are so adamant about it being something that changed your life
Reading Hobb in high school 20 years ago was such a change after WoT and ASoIaF which I had read just before. I don't know how an adaptation could ever capture the feeling of the books, but I wish so much that someone could figure it out and bring it to life.
Now I want to reread all of the books.
Yeah, people often talk about series with massive worlds and plots being hard to adapt, but with something as character focused as this series it's not about hitting the right plot points, it's about understanding and translating the characters properly. I just can't imagine there are many writers capable of that.
Thanks for sharing your passion for this series. I've been hesitant to start such a long series but as a fan of fantasy who wants compelling story, characters that have depth, as well as artistic prose that's more than workmanlike, you've sold me on trying Assassin's Apprentice as it seems it possesses all these elements. I will definitely give it a try!
I think you described the farseer trilogy, and what makes it so special perfectly.
You summed up my feeling perfectly. Robin Hobb is brilliant
I definitely want more of your reading reviews!
This is by far my favorite series in the world. Believable characters are an absolute priority for me and I really like how you described Hobbs writing. Drop your goodreads if you’ve got one I’d love to look at your recs.
Looking forward to more videos about this series!
I listened to Taran and took a break from Wheel of Time to listen to the Farseer audiobooks. Finished minutes ago. Eagerly awaiting Taran’s next video about this, though I realize he is a busy guy these days!
Just finished reading the Farseer Trilogy. I am fully invested! Great video.
True magick is imagination, intention and will. Great review. Couldn’t agree with you more.
I’ll try out this first book! I hope you talk more about it - characters/plot as you make these videos.
Thanks for Assassins recommendation and intro to new-to-me author: Robin Hobb. I was instantly invited into the land; raced through the Apprentice; mostly through the Royal and full speed onto the Quest.
Never before have I felt so strongly that EACH SENTENCE of EACH PARAGRAPH matters so much.
I never felt like speed reading. I did not want the books to end!
I enjoyed this a lot. Please make more! :)
That “When did this happen? I thought I didn’t like this.” was very relatable. I’m almost always read fantasy novels with some sort of emotional detachment but Hobb has proven to be my kryptonite.
Recommending Guy Gavriel Kay’s novels. His prose is just as beautiful and his characters also sneakily worm into your heart. Tigana is a good place to start with his works.
I'm currently about one third of the way through the novel and it's growing on me. I'll most likely continue on reading more of her work.
I finally convinced my twelve year old to start these books. The Farseer books are legit my favorite. I've read through them several times, and the emotional impact is the same every damn time.
I'm looking forward to this series .. will it also be released as a podcast????
I had the same reaction to Assassin's Apprentice. I didnt love it. Eventually I kept going and I ended up loving both Royal Assassin and Assasin's Quest, and it changed how I think of AA in retrospect. Continuing on with LST soon.
Just finished A Memory of Light, so I suppose this would be a good series to begin! Thanks Taran. Any interest in/have you read "Heroes Die" or "Blade of Tyshalle"?
Heroes Die is actually just a few away on my list! I'll let you know what I think when I get to it!
Ok just got the book.
I feel like everyone has a different opinion on this but do you prefer the Assassin trilogy or Mad Ship? Personally, I got super attached to Fitz but was astounded at the character work in the Mad Ship trilogy, so prefer it overall.
When I first read the Farseer trilogy, I wasn't in love with it and definitely preferred Mad Ship. Mad Ship is really what got me to give Fitz another shot. But once I got back to Fitz things changed for me. So I'm curious to see which I prefer between Farseer & Mad Ship on the reread!
Trust me read Rangers Apprentice, it’s a better series
You should interview Vanessa Rousso or Tiffany Rousso for your podcast the Taran Show. Tiffany Rousso would be an interesting interview as well because she is such an enigma.
When’s the video about who is on celebrity BB?
