Of course Freddie is the better singer, but I think Brian's version of this song has more emotion; you can almost feel his pain. That last chorus, as well as "bleed and scream and crawl" almost makes me cry.
I think Brian has felt the moment, Freddie was too important in their lifes. You can see in Brian's face the whole love that anyone can feel, they loved Freddie, we Love Freddie.
Brian is a bloody awesome super singer.. on the same level as Freddie. so much badass and skill in Queen.. all 4 of them... we will never see the likes again in humanity.. and its sad.
+Ramesh Nair Brian does have a great voice. I think he'd have been the lead singer had he not been so feckin awesome on guitar, and had Freddie not been so ... Freddie.
I was in the Stadium for this and nobody had heard it before - we were all thinking of Freddie and though its not about him so much of it connects with how we imagined he must have been feeling towards the end. The emotion felt that day was something I'll never forget and Brian, Roger and John did amazingly well to hold it together on a unique and unforgettable day. The loss we all felt, though most of us had never met Freddie in person, was like losing a good friend.
1992 on #mymusicalroadto50 Brian May - Too Much Love Will Kill You I had the chance to go to the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert at Wembley and passed. My reason was at the time, I would rather my chance go to a bigger Queen fan than me. I liked Queen a lot and had bought or owned then”Complete Works” box by this point too, but to me Queen wasn’t Queen without Freddie and I suppose I was still bitterly frustrated that I had only just missed out on seeing them on the “Magic” tour. Do I regret the decision? Not as much as I thought I would. I watched and recorded the whole concert from start to finish. There were some amazing performances I wished I’d seen. Most notably Extreme’s performance, and their frontman Gary Cher one’s performance later in the evening of “Hammer To Fall”. Seeing Bowie singing “Under Pressure” and George Michaels blistering performance of “Somebody To Love” but there were others who just couldn’t emulate Freddie. Roger Daltrey comes to mind and also Robert Plant. One song though that did catch my attention was this song from Brian which I thought was beautiful. When he released it a short while after, I grabbed it. At the time of the concert I did wish the whole thing wasn’t believable and could picture Freddie stepping back out onto the stage behind his band mate and taking on the next verse. A bit like the way he appears behind that kid in the “Miracle” video only 3 short years before. So I was amazed when I did get to hear Freddie sing this when they released the “Made In Heaven” album. I spent many a time after that trying to splice both versions together on to a cassette. A great song.
Don't get me wrong, the Freddie version on the Queen album 'Made in Heaven' is awesome, but Brian's solo version is nearly beyond words in its grandiosity. And this live version... I'm actually speechless. The emotion is as raw as hell.
Brian this song is from deep within your heart and soul. You opened up your heart to us and talked about your raw feelings. So much passion and love from you in singing this. I could hear your voice cracking while you were singing holding back a floodgate of tears. I know this is true because as a songwriter of ballads myself, I’ve had trouble singing some songs in front of an audience. This was a magnificent piece of work and I applaud you for getting through it!♥️🌹♥️. That had to be so hard. With losing your wife, finding a new love, losing Freddie and Then your Dad and also John D., you were facing mountains with that song. Kudos to you and bless you for all the beautiful music you have given us over these many, many years. I’m one of your first generation fans. I’m so glad you’re still with us! 💛☀️💛 Keep on Rockin’ !!!
Never knew he also could play the piano! Queen was the most talented band in music history, as a band and individuals. Their stunning vocals, playing music instruments and songwriters. That’s the reason queen will be remembered for many decades and I guess even centuries long to come.
Jesus what can you say utter pure raw emotion from Brian you can hear the pain in his voice I can't even begin to imagine what he was going through when he wrote this let alone performing it how he never broke down ill never know what a absolute legend truly blessed with his music
It must be clarified again. This is such a powerful and emotional song written by Brian reflecting on the breakdown of his first marriage during a chaotic time of touring on the road while wanting to be a great family man, husband and rediscovering love again. It wasn't made with Freddie in mind --- it just took a different meaning when it was used as a tribute to Freddie Mercury (1992) which was also touching but means differently. But to really understand the pain, you must think of what the song was originally meant for --- the breakdown of a 14 year marriage while feeling helpless to stop it because of the trappings of the career and a new love.
@@raegankaylee1568 yeah we know for sure that its about how brian felt about his marriage, he mentioned in the “these are the days of our lives” documentary

The song that made me realise how wonderful a singer Brian May really is. His best work, in my view. Painfully honest, lyrically poignant, melodically beautiful. Just exquisite.
A heartbreaking song for Brian as he was going through a bad time of loving two women. You can feel his raw emotion, and I'm sure the horrible dilemma he went through during this time in his life. I love Brian's voice and everything this man has done as a Queen member as well as in his personal life. Wtg. Dr. May.

I appreciate Brian’s intense emotional connection to the song but I’m just not a fan of Brian’s solo singing. But Brian & Roger’s harmonies with Freddie are great and the classic Queen sound. Its March 8 2024 and im watching/recording this tribute concert live on PBS. Brian wrote this song and because of that he sang it amazing with the emotion in which he wrote it. ❤
So much raw emotion...I can't even imagine what it took for Brian to put this one out there, especially at that moment. Queen's version with Freddie's vocal was actually recorded first, in 1988, and the song was supposed to be on "The Miracle," but there was a publishing issue that kept it off the album. The track on "Made In Heaven" is what was recorded in the Miracle sessions, with little (if any) additional production.

I'm just the pieces of the man I used to be
Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
I'm far away from home
And I've been facing this alone
For much too long
I feel like no one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find
Where I went wrong
Too much love will kill you
If you can't make up your mind
Torn between the lover and the love you leave behind
You're headed for disaster 'cos you never read the signs
Too much love will kill you every time
I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down
How would it be if you were standing in my shoes
Can't you see that it's impossible to choose?
No, there's no making sense of it
Every way I go I'm bound to lose
Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all.
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime
Too much love will kill you every time
Too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why
You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too much love will kill you
In the end...
In the end.

Damn. Just DAMN. It’s so raw. It made me cry then, and it makes me cry now. Freddie certainly had a gift...and so does Brian. ❤️
Brave. Proud. Genius. Love. Friendship... put that into a song, give a man a piano and you get this! Pure Magic 👏👏👏
Ronnie Stidolph 😭😭😭
Hermoso tema y gran interpretación de Brian
Siiii. Él es su compositor... Bellísima
Alguien más ha sentido como que en un momento se le ha quebrado la voz? Así para llorar?. Lo amo. 😔🖤🖤
I know from personal experience. It never stops hurting.!!
I saw him performing in 1993 in Italy before Guns n Roses...what a voice!...quite like Freddie’s
That’s a beautiful rendition 😢
Thanks a lot for Sir Brian May. You still miss Freddie. Thanks for this performance ❣😞😭💔
Its March 8 2024 and im watching/recording this tribute concert live on PBS. Brian wrote this song and because of that he sang it amazing with the emotion in which he wrote it. ❤
The man I admire.. Brian you are amazing! Best wishes!
The best version live or in the studio.
I love the song ever
This is a beautiful and touching song.
Give me goosebumps and can't hold back my tears.
Right from his heart ❤️
i love your voice, Sir Brian!! 💕
Omg i’m not a crying person, but this, man, THIS, made me CRY Not cry. CRY
this was the main song that introduced me to queen and rock in general. This has been my favorite song for the past 10 years, ever since i was 5
Brian was right, Spike Edney was and is an unsung hero, he's basically the fifth member of queen (when freddie was alive)
So much raw emotion...I can't even imagine what it took for Brian to put this one out there, especially at that moment. Queen's version with Freddie's vocal was actually recorded first, in 1988, and the song was supposed to be on "The Miracle," but there was a publishing issue that kept it off the album. The track on "Made In Heaven" is what was recorded in the Miracle sessions, with little (if any) additional production.
tears in my heart and in my eyes
Brian you are beautiful!
