He didn't sing this to contest with Freddie Mercury, he sang it to honour him. He deserves credit for that. Some people here fail to realize that.

It should be noted that Freddy Mercury and Elton John were close friends
@@Jbessette Elton John is friend to just about all in the music industry.
Man, i just realized that its true
@@ykalon he's not friends with Keith Richards
Elton was a great friend of Freddie’s and even visited him on his deathbed. LOYALTY
Angie L I'm not entirely certain Elton actually visited Freddie ON his deathbed..
..If he did, then that's probably best kept prrivate between Elton and Freddie.
Freddie never had a deathbed
@@RB747domme He did. There's video of it. I'm not sure how close it was to the end, but he visited Freddie regularly after Freddie became house-bound. He used to sneak in the back, but I think the last time he came, he said, F*** it, and came in the front door. The press door-stopped him and asked him what he was doing there, he said, "I'm simply visiting a friend". God bless you Elton.
The Rocketman and the Bohrap
Perhaps his friendship with Freddie got Elton so involved in raising money for Aids research, don't know, just a thought.
Elton maybe has not that range but man he sings with soul and emotion. And that is what music is all about.
"Maybe" ?! :D
I made a video featuring this song. Title: "The Show Must Go On (hand drawn with lyrics)".
You need to listen to Someone Saved My Life Tonight then
I agree
It helps to have the great Tony Iommi playing continent sized power chords behind him.
He sang this with his voice, as a tribute not an imitation. This version is amazing, full of feelings.
John Deacon, you invisible hero!
Nice tribute. I never forget John.

Because that was his best friend
@@BabyItsSunny no not a best friend, a brother
Deacon is said to have taken Mercury's death the hardest and quit the band because of this.
he became depressed after freddie's death
Tony Iommi is incredibly humble to have done rhythm guitar on this song.
Not to mention, Tony recognizes the pain on Brian's face. Iommi's looking at him like , "Keep fighting, man. You got this!"
This was the biggest show with the least ego in music history. People were really there for Freddie, not to compete. It is beautiful.
I like the way Elton John sang this masterpiece. He knows that he can't hit those high notes like Freddie so instead of that he's doing low harmonies and leaving highs for Roger. That was absolutely genius move. ❤️
Elton is a genius musician.
@Aldo Pinni isn't it obvious?

He did it for Freddy and he did it perfectly. Elton John is pure love. He had and has truckloads of empathy. Love you Elton.
Freddie
Man, I forgot how good Elton sounded back then.
His voice got limitations now but hes still a great singer
He could have sung those high notes if he were in his prime, his voice got deeper after his recovery for some reason.. side effects of drugs on your body maybe. Not that I'm complaining, there are some songs that just couldn't have done with elton's prime voice and sounded great with his current one
He had a throat surgery back in 1987 that lowered his vocal range
@@josephthedreamer1508 1984 I think
This great song makes even Elton John slightly masculine)
Elton sang this song with love, loss, and honour. He has nowhere near the vocal range of Mercury, but he is a hell of a musician and knows how to make it sound good regardless of his restrictions. You don't need to have the highest vocal range to be a star. Freddie and Elton are both legends in their own ways. If only Freddie were still here.
beautiful.
This is a good version. This song came out when I was diagnosed with MS (18 1/2 years old). It helped me a lot at the time to cope with the problems I had.
@@rachelpenny5165 you're amazing ❤️
Yeah man Elton is the best and he is in the league of Freddie Mercury as a vocalist.
Elton did a good job here, he did make it sound good even though as has been stated here he doesn't have the voice, the incredible vocal range of Freddie Mercury. By the way, how many do? Appreciate each songs performance for what it is, and don't expect perfection from those that are not the originators of the song, but are doing their best as a tribute to a fallen comrade.
Elton doesn't parallel the vocal range or stage presents of Freddie Murcury in the slightest, but he has one large set of balls singing for him, that I respect very much
No one can, but we must accept that voice is gone
Elton did his best. So did all the performers that night, and for the most part they all did very well. However, none of them were Freddie - he is irreplaceable.

One sad thing about this performance for me is John, this is one of the first times for years they have to perform live, which he didn't like too much anyway, and now without one of his closest friends. The contrast with his dancing in the early Queen days and his very sad look during this concert is heartbreaking. All my love goes to John Deacon

If you ever wanted to watch Elton’s heart hurt during a performance, this is it. God speed, and rest easy Mr. Mercury.
For all the haters here, Freddie had 4 octaves, Elton got barely 3. Sure Freddie is the singer for this song, but this is his tribute concert. That means he is dead by this. How the hell he can sing it here then? Don't you get it? Im not Elton fan but he did just fine. Elton is an amazing singer. That's why they call him Sir Elton John. Too bad Freddie didn't even get a chance to perform this live. We'll miss you Fred. R.i.p.
PS- i know he was knighted by the queen. But why would queen give him the honors if he wasn't a good musician. I know handful of musicians that have been Knighted by the queen. And i know even a few musicians like David Bowie who has turned down the offer.
Sitha Biyan Freddie had 5
That's not why they call him *Sir* Elton John, he actually is an official Sir.
Elton's range is a bit smaller at this time, due to a surgery he had 87. It significantly lowered his range (by probably an octave and a half). There's a few songs of his he's had to lower in key so he can even do them live anymore.
But still, this was a very touching tribute to Freddie, and to give credit where it's due, Elton in all honesty did a tremendous job with this song.
WEAPON MASTER I wonder if he would’ve even made this song if he wasn’t sick
@@alextopete78 5? He was F2-F6, perfect 4 octaves
I feel really sorry for John Deacon. I'm sure that Freddie would have wanted his friends to carry on like Brian and Roger did but John just didn't want to carry on after Freddie died. The show must go on no matter how much it hurts, but not for John. For John it was enough.
He was very sad you dont really expect anything from john but he has had a good life with queen, but as Freddie said show must go on!
Its lovely how brian always talks about how much he misses Freddie its just sad though and everybody loved Freddie,John just thought Freddie is the only person with that talent and knew it was over after his death,I would say if everybody in this world had a gun nobody would shoot Freddie he is a legand

I think Elton did extremely well. And he has a very powerful voice but especially with this song you realize how powerful Freddie’s voice was!
You can't compare Elton and Freddie. Completely different and unique both in their own way. Elton did a brilliant job here a few years after his vocal surgery which changed his voice completely.
He sang his ass off here, he belted out everything he have and you can feel the love he felt for Freddie. In every single note. Respect Elton!
Maybe these people should have a good look at Elton in his prime, the seventies. He had a pretty impressive range then. Surgery and age changed his voice, but he's still a great singer. I wonder if Freddy was alive today he would still have that range or would age have changed it.
