He used to sneak in the back, but I think the last time he came, he said, F*** it, and came in the front door. The press door-stopped him and asked him what he was doing there, he said, "I'm simply visiting a friend". God bless you Elton.

He has nowhere near the vocal range of Mercury, but he is a hell of a musician and knows how to make it sound good regardless of his restrictions. How the hell he can sing it here then? Don't you get it? Im not Elton fan but he did just fine. Elton is an amazing singer. That's why they call him Sir Elton John. Too bad Freddie didn't even get a chance to perform this live. We'll miss you Fred. R.i.p.
PS- i know he was knighted by the queen. But why would queen give him the honors if he wasn't a good musician. I know handful of musicians that have been Knighted by the queen. And i know even a few musicians like David Bowie who has turned down the offer.

Elton's range is a bit smaller at this time, due to a surgery he had 87. It significantly lowered his range (by probably an octave and a half). There's a few songs of his he's had to lower in key so he can even do them live anymore.
But still, this was a very touching tribute to Freddie, and to give credit where it's due, Elton in all honesty did a tremendous job with this song.

so much fire and depth in Elton's performance! not to mention Brian ripping and Tony doing a great job staying out of the way providing his metal godfather power!

It took me years to finally understand what a great cover this version was! Elton did great here. Of course no one can ever be able to recreate those notes as Freddie could but Elton did a tremendous job here! Great performance.

“ Empty spaces, what are we living for?
Abandoned places, I guess we know the score, on and on
Does anybody know what we are looking for?
    Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
    Hold the line
Does anybody want to take it anymore?
    The show must go on
The show must go on, yeah
    Inside my heart is breaking
    My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on
Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance, on and on
Does anybody know what we are living for?
    I guess I'm learning
    I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning, round the corner now
    Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free
    The show must go on
    The show must go on
    Inside my heart is breaking
    My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday, grow but never die
    I can fly, my friends
    The show must go on
    The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
    I'm never giving in
    On with the show
    I'll top the bill
    I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
    On with the show
    Show
Show must go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on ”

Why are so many Queen fans(I am a huge fan myself) so negative against this performance?
Elton John had to lower the Key so what ? Freddie did that, too! Freddie often dodged High notes and Falsettos during live Performances. I always wonder why no one ever mentions that.
Also "The Show must go on" is one of his best vocal Performances. Every Vocalist on Earth has Problems singing this Song.

      i totally agree with you.
Various fantastic singers dodge some high notes on live concerts.
Freddie was an amazing singer, but his not perfect.

100% Agree - I feel that he gave everything singing this song. there's a lot of emotion throught Elton's voice, he sing it for Freddie. It's not "another concert, and definitively not a question of vocal technic. In the end, you can have the best voice in the world, if you're not able to communicate your feelings to the audience, it will always be a poor performance.
