Born and raised on the Wirral. Lived there from 1956 to 1983. So many memories!
My Dad was one of the lost on the Applegarth. 1960. Ernest Perry. RIP Dad
RIP to your dear Dad. We had not long arrived from Ireland and our Mum took us down the floating roadway to see the poor Applegarth.
Thank you x
I'd totally forgotten the flour mills. Old memories returning watching these.
sound vid lad...memories galore...its like bieng 8 years old again....
Wirral is a hidden gem
not any more to many people and cars
Great video. I grew up in Birkenhead and thought it was the best place in the world, not that I'd ever gone any further than new Brighton which I always remember as being packed and full of life. I went back to Birkenhead a couple of years ago and thought I was in a different town. Birkenhead is an easy target to knock and it doesn't deserve to be. It seems to be that it's been left to run down, forgotten by everyone except those who live there. Very sad.
I've got so many memories coming back. Remember all the docks as my dad worked there and saw the hovercraft when it stopped at Moreton Shore.
As a kid, I was on Moreton shore for the launch of the hovercraft service to Rhyl.
Gre up on the Wirral , miss it so much as i get older
Wow, so amazing to see the Woodside Terminal and Grange Road. I'm sure I saw my mum walking past! When I was a kid I used to stand outside the old dairy on Swan Hill at dawn to find employment as a milkman's helper. I now live in California. Quite a change from the Woodchurch Estate.
Good old footage her. I used to have this on VHS. More recently made videos on the Wirral Channel.
Isn't this the voice of the late MONTY LISTER doing the voice over? I remember him well.
beautiful history. God bless you for telling us the story.
As a schoolboy all our shopping was done at Grange Road
My 18th birthday present was a cine camera from firths, the memories.. 📷
What a top video!
haha great story! must bring back some memories
Wow!, its interesting to see Spital crossroads years ago with no lights!
:o Liverpool skyline has changed so much
Fares cameras is still there lol , the scenery on dacre hill somewhat different but its still there and a taxi driver told me the old picture house over the road long demolished is our local tesco store directly over the road
Fairs .closed down a long time ago
Crazy to think the poulation has gone up and it looks so scarce now.
Oh my. The 58 bus to Clatterbridge Hospital where I worked, leaving Spital Crossroads, near where I lived. Three Stags pub in the background where I used to drink Guinness and Tetley mild. And it’s on cine stock! A big well done to the super 8 or standard 8 fan. A moving memory, never expected to see anything more than the odd still. It must be the same for all of us, wherever we lived. Good stuff.
The Corporation 50 and 58 services used to be very good, until suddenly it was the MPTE, it was now the 10 service, and “everything had changed.”
When I was a kid I once jumped off the back of a moving 58, and fell over because I didn’t know how to do it. On the return journey it was the same conductor who told me how to safely jump off a moving vehicle. He must have been ex forces. Imagine that today, though.
Knew a girl I loved from Wirral. She was a pretty blonde how I loved her. Never took a look at where she came from before. Milk in a propane tanker. Dock tracks in waters. Bet she loved that train.
