This song has the best "oooo-oooo la-la-la"'s ever! Another reason Rubber Soul is my #1 desert island album... whoever said this is the worst song on Rubber Soul is quite mistaken.. there are no bad songs on Rubber Soul.... Anne Murray, who is a singer from Canada from the 1960's & 70's recorded a cover of this song that became a hit on the radio and is quite good
The oooh la la la's on Nowhere Man are just as good IMO. Funny thing is, George Martin regretted putting those two songs next to each other on the album precisely because of the oooh la la's.

Think of it this way... if this song is the worst song on Rubber Soul, the rest of the album must be awesome. And it is. Rubber Soul fully signaled that the Beatles and their music has transitioned into a new and more mature phase. If I had suggest the next song off the album to listen to, it would be Think for Yourself. Paul's fuzz bass on that song is unforgettable.
I've always listed it as The Most Favorite. In the decades since, this is one of the least covered of all, yet, when it is, the audiences always erupt with joy and excitement. It seems infinitely catchy.

A complete favorite, always has been. It was so hard to listen to the rest of the album that first time after hearing this one. My lifelong question remains: was this directed to a gal, or was this an early, opening poke in John's or George's eye?
It was about Paul's then girlfriend of 5 years (their last year together they were engaged) JANE ASHER.
@@patticrichton1135 That's the obvious answer but, even then, this was 2 years before their breakup. What galfriend would put up with THIS insult for two more years? I suspect (1) she'd dumped him long before the 'announced' and recognized date, fed up with his cheating, still thinking her acting career was going to grow on its own; or (2) maybe he said, "I get fed up with John, darling - it's my poke in his eye and he doesn't even know it." And Paul's got too many publicly-stated I LOVE JOHN comments in these later decades to recant them now.

In terms of the worst song on Rubber Soul, you might have this confused with the closing track to the LP, Run For Your Life. Many consider it their least favorite song--including John Lennon--primarily bcuz of the subject matter. Certain people find the line, 'I'd rather see you dead little than to be with another man', rather offensive. Truth is, it's a line The Beatles borrowed from Elvis Presley song called, Let's Play House.
Funny fact: Run for your Life is one of the fav songs from George Harrison of Rubber Soul.
Honestly speaking, I love Run for your life. I think some people take everything literally and about John.. we know how unassuming he could have been. So I don't take lyrics that seriously. Rubber Soul is , in my opinion, the best Beatles album.
@@cbseE9212 I LOVE "Run For Your Life" TOO, it makes me want to dance (which I CAN'T do so easily now, but I sure did when the album came out in 1966 when I was 19! ) Yeah too many people want to take everything so literally now....there are songs out NOW that have much darker lyrics. They DID borrow that line from Elvis Presley's song "Let's Play House." Besides most of us have said something like that at one time in our lives!

And yes, I guess these feelings are common but it's upto one whether to entertain an idea or to act upon it. And in that sense, any creative art gives one freedom to express themselves otherwise people would have gone nuts lol.
