Love this conversation! I remember when I found Eat to Live at the library 10 years ago I thought I’d found the holy grail lol. I was shocked that nobody else was inspired like I was. Anyway I have all your books except the diabetes one and and I’ve practically memorized them… I lost 66 pounds in the first 9 months and I never looked back. I’m 63, BMI of 19, I run, bike and do yoga….. and life is good! Thank you Dr. Fuhrman.

Dr Fuhrman you must be so proud of your intelligent and beautiful daughter who will keep your legacy going. After losing weight on a WFPB diet, eating avocado, peanut butter, seeded wholegrain bread (but no oil), I had to really watch the fat content to lose the very stubborn last few pounds. Having finally achieved my ideal weight and maintained it for a few months, I am reintroducing nuts, avocado and seeds but in small quantities and not daily. It's not that I'm afraid of the higher calorie density fats, but the fact remains that as a 57 year old woman who is also petite, I cannot eat more - unless I want to put on weight again, which I don't. I don't count calories but I've more or less worked out that if I go over 1600/1800 I will put on weight, and I'm happy the way I am. But thank you for your info, I'm taking it on board and still refining my way of eating after switching to WFPB over three years ago.

This is so helpful! I developed a vitamin D deficiency that wouldn’t remedy until I added healthy fats to my WFPB lifestyle. I’m grateful for you, your recipes and for your sharing your knowledge based on scientific studies!

We have dumbed down and been so removed from real food. A lot of us have been slowly waking up and absorbing all of this wisdom to regain our health, thanks to people like dr fuhrman. I was addicted to sugar most of my life. Right before covid hit, I read a lot about fasting and eventually went to true north in ca for an extended fast. It did help, but what i eat afterwards is the most important part. Out of all the vegan experts with books I have read, dr fuhrman makes the most sense to me. I have also had an issue with eating way too much nuts in the past. With following dr fuhrman’s way of eating, I no longer overeat them. The biggest help with that is not to snack all day. I do have a question, medical medium recently put out a video about dental health and stated that we should avoid vinegar of all types. He says that it destroys the teeth. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you to both of you for putting out these videos to educate us! Please keep them coming. 😊

Acid foods like vinegar and lemon juice (my dressings of choice), citrus fruit, etc. unfortunately corrode the tooth enamel. Dentists advise not to brush your teeth for about an hour after consuming them. It's a difficult one, maybe switch to a more nutty dressing on your salad, e.g. hummus, a walnut dressing, though hummus is also made with lemon juice.

Interesting convo. I think a lot of this goes back to people like Pritikin who strongly believed fats of any kind were unhealthy. Even he was able to find studies showing that polyunsaturated fats contributed to certain diseases and cancers. He says so in his interview with Mcdougall

Fascinating conversation, enjoyed your viewpoint. I have wondered about the different kinds of nuts available to us, and their place in our evolution. The tedious process of opening nuts possibly suggests their quantities could never be huge in our early diet, and the very difficult nuts to open might not have been had as often. So perhap, over millennia, we evolved eating more of some nuts than others. These small but useful quantities seem to match what you advocate. An interesting discussion.

i can attest to this- ate very low-fat vegan for years, got extremely thin, and have AFib and thyroid problem. My diet was all organic, no junk food, no sugar, no oil, and very small amount of nuts, no seeds. Never had avocado even though I liked them.

I wish you well, it is so hard when we put the weight back on, but you're in the right place. I also eat quite a few potatoes, sweet potatoes and squashes, you can microwave them too and you don't need to add any dressing. They fill you up and are low cal. Also mushrooms are yummy. I make a lot of soups and salads and make sure my fridge is always full of ready made ingredients/meals. After years of yo yo dieting, now I never ever bring home trigger food because it will get you sooner or later. @@bekind1966

It is too bad that we are still entertaining 50 years of the lipid hypothesis nightmare. Healthy unprocessed fats from animals and vegetables combined with a borderline calorie restricted diet with plenty of zone 2 exercise and rest will keep you away from the doctor and out of the memory care unit. Cholesterol is critical as a precursor chemical and is structural in every cell of the body. Restrict it at your own risk.
