You know you need hearing aids when you’re in a meeting and people sound like the teacher in a Charlie Brown cartoon.

LOL. I've made that same reference concerning how people in a drive-thru sound as I sit in the passenger side and have my husband deal with that crazy noise. "Are they seriously speaking English because it sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher to me?"

I was 26 when I got my first hearing aids, over 40 yrs later my hearing has all but gone & I am looking at getting a CI,but when I did the beeps test & you press a button when you hear something,I was honest with the audiologist when I said I was not sure whether I heard the beep with the bass or I just felt the vibration from the bass! I do miss so many sounds & I do feel isolated at times! Hearing aids can only amplify what hearing is left no matter how powerful they are! I would now settle for the biggest hearing aid out there if they gave me hearing, but the 26yr old me would not wear them or grew my hair longer to hide them! We are lucky in the UK our hearing aids are free! They should be free worldwide for those that need them! Or be as cheap as glasses! When you said you got yours at 25 I thought you had them barely a year as you look so young! At least further down the line there may be an option of cochlear implants! ♥️♥️

EXACTLY!!! I am right there with you! Thanks for sharing! Let me tell you, April, I simply LOVE your channel because I feel like everything you talk about is how I feel. Like you, I have progressive hearing loss that began in my 20s. From what I have come across, a lot of other channels on hearing loss, while certainly valuable, do not usually discuss the kinds of struggles we face when we go from totally hearing to progressively losing our hearing. For me, it took a long time to stop feeling sad everytime I noticed that I could no longer hear something today that I could hear yesterday. Like, what's next?! But after completing your course and continuing to watch your videos that just freakin' speak to my reality with hearing loss, I am doing better at finding the fun and focusing on the positives. Thanks so much for all that you do! It is quite unique and reaches a group of those in the deaf community that have not necessarily been as well reached before... at least in my own experience of trying to find people who just get it! I always look forward to seeing that you've posted a new video. Keep up the great work! None of us are alone, and that includes you. While we may be countries apart, we know how it feels to walk in each other's shoes. At least for some things. ☺👍

I have had 24/7 tinnitus for decades so i am never really confident about what I am hearing. I have had hearing aids for one year because i lost quite a bit of clarity in the past few years. I get so stressed out over hearing tests that my head hurts. It’s not like concentrating very hard is going to improve my scores. I am sure there’s a lot of false positive responses especially if there is a long time between the tones.

Hi April, I just discovered your channel and have subscribed. I'm so sorry you have hearing loss, but I love listening to you describe your journey. I greatly admire your strength, optimism and courage. I have profound hearing loss in both ears and have been wearing hearing aids since about 2007, but in reality, I probably needed them long before then. I've been through about 6 pairs of them, all different brands and varieties. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

I was born with pretty much the hearing loss I have today. It has lowered a bit but not a lot. So it was interesting to hear you talk about memories of hearing with hearing ears.
I do still get adjustment periods when I change hearing aids and issues with wanting that the new one should sound like old one. And had to adjust to the new sound every 4-5 years. It is frustrating, but at least last two times brought iPhone streaming and then also Android streaming which is quite nice. 😀

This is a problem I have as well. I know what a river should sound like, but I have trouble getting my hearing aids to understand it...

Thanks for these posts. My wife is getting used to get hearing aids, and it is a challenge for both of us. BTW, the audio in your video cuts out at about 04:10.
PS: You've got some great looking guitars on your wall!

I wondered if it was intentional to make a point because it really did fit the topic.

Hi April, Do you have an acoustic guitar too? If so, how is the sound quality to you before and after HA’s? G
