And the guy is threatening people from jail, etc. - yeah, this is a normal, upstanding citizen (who, while his kid was sitting in jail, ran from the police!). Who buys their emotionally disturbed 15-year old a handgun....and who doesn't wonder why it's the only thing the kid wants for Christmas? This guy will get out of jail, eventually - those kids are permanently dead and maimed and traumatized because this jackaloon used lousy judgement and was negligent, in so many ways. These convictions might stop some further shootings by making adults aware of their cuplability if they ignore tons of warning signs from their kids, buy their kids guns (???), etc. I have zero sympathy for this dude...and his old lady. If you don't wanna keep some sort of tabs on your kids, don't have kids - and if your kid is a friendless loner with mental problems you sure as hell don't wanna buy him a gun....and leave it lying around, unlocked. There was a young black guy in Flint who left a gun on a table, a few years ago, and a toddler picked it up and killed his sister - the guy went straight to prison. Nobody squawked about the guy going to prison. So no boo hoo for this guy, from me. The negligence from these parents was incredibly extreme - like off the charts. And that's why they got convicted.

Could not agree more! I hope this sets a real precedent. If the parents don't intervene, who else is there? School staff did everything they could, juggling the needs of 1689 other kids. All they needed the parents to do was care, and they failed. Also, I'm getting real tired of right-wingers threatening their prosecutors. A prosecutor's job doesn't involve personal vendetta, so you deal with the evidence against you like a responsible adult.

I watched this since the shooting. They feel horrible? "hindsight" because they got caught living their lives and forgetting about their son. They were absent in every way , they failed as parents. The lawyer does not know what kind of family they were she can only speak to what they told her. I am still standing by my first comment when they had vehicles "staged at a local motel, withdrew all money, packed bags and were at a Warehouse in Detroit. They were fleeing to Canada. Anyone that is familiar with Michigan knows they were minutes away. Waiting to see what was coming. If you were "innocent" and had nothing to worry about or, as Jennifer stated " She wouldn't have done anything different," why were they running then? If you did nothing wrong, they should have turned themselves in. Both Jurys got it right. If you are an involved parent, if you are a present parent, if you take care of your children and their well-being, tend to their basic needs, if you raise your children with love, respect, patience and intelligence, you do not have anything to worry about. They are children, not "friends." You can still be the "cool" parent without partying, smoking pot, drinking, swearing. You can be respected as a parent for disciplining, grounding, teaching and doing the hard things we need to do as parents even recognizing the difficult decisions if children need mental health checkups.

Every parent gets notified at the same time of an active shooter at their kids school. How many immediately drive home to see if their or their sons unsecured gun is missing? I bet he was the only parent who did because his first thought was my son is probably the shooter. The only credit I give him is calling 911 when he saw the gun missing. Then instead of supporting your disturbed, probably scared kid, you go on the run. The parents should have stayed to talk/visit him in jail/prison and told them they still love him and that they failed at being parents by not listening to him when he was crying out of help. I can't imagine how he felt after they abandoned him. Ethan, both his parents and the school are at fault! I know Ethan did something horrific, but I do have some sympathy for him. He knew he was sick, and the people who loved him the most took it as a joke, so why would he trust another adult to care? Of course, I feel much worse for everyone at the school for the trauma they are having to deal with and the parents of the children who didn't make it.

We feel bad about it too! Of course he'd like for us to think that. But as for a gun, i could have easily said, " no, you cannot have a gun. " and i could have locked up any guns I had on hand. Why try and save him. Hes hardly employable. His wife on the other hand had a job. 4:43

James Crumbley shouldn’t have purchased a gun for mental disturbed

i don’t think they would have been convicted if it were not for the gun they bought the kid …. just don’t buy the kid a gun or at the very least make sure it is sadly secured 24/7 …. not sure if mental help would have helped.. the kid said he did it to be famous… some people are evil and can’t be fixed …. all the more reason the not have or secure the gun

This attorney is weird. She is all over this man fixing his tie and touching up on a man who has a wife and probably hasn't had a woman's touch in a while. Blaming everyone else without accepting his responsibility as a parent is reprehensible. Their child was an inconvenience and they couldn't care less. No one has to tell a parent to secure firearms .... it's common sense. One trip to behavioral health would have helped. They couldn't be bothered. So he didn't take the stand and this attorney talks for him. He's a grown man like when will he man up. His son accepted and owned his role. All of a sudden he needs help with his hearing ... really! These parents can take a lesson from their son. My God, parents who did the right thing by their kids had to bury them. All the victim kids did was go to school.

Sometimes it's better to stay quiet and not say anything rather than open your mouth and erase all doubt that you're a fool. This interview was pointless. No remorse from anyone for the poor victim children - constant excuses are revolting. She knows how this man truly is yet she wants to paint him as sympathetic. He and his wife are self-centered people who had no business reproducing.

James Crumbly's attorney is very capable and did a great job. I think the only reason why she lost this case was because of the families of the victims sitting in the court room which made the jury give the families what they wanted. That kid was simply evil, selfish and ungrateful. Many people have grown up and are growing up in very unstable and bad environment but they don't go and shoot people or stab others. These parents don't deserve jail time but they shouldn't be allowed to contact that evil soul they brought to this world.

The jury foreperson said it came down to the storage of the gun and not getting mental health help. I'm still not understanding how that's a crime. They had a 10 minute meeting with the school and what was discussed wasn't alarming enough for anyone to think he needed to be taken out of school. There were no gun storage laws at that time. I am local and I complely sympathize with the families. I just dont know if this was the right decision based on the information that was presented to the jury.

They didn't do anything illegal. If the prosecution wants changes to be made, they need to talk to their representatives to write new laws. Not charge people because you didn't like their actions.

    • @HereForTheComments990
      @HereForTheComments990 Před měsícem +1

      They absolutely did illegal things:
      1) They bought a handgun for a minor. That is 💯 illegal. An actual crime.
      2) They failed to secure the gun. Negligence.
      3) They did both of those things whilst knowing their son was violent at home, mentally unstable, and abusing alcohol. They failed to take him home when the school begged them to. Gross negligence.
      4) After the shooting, they emptied bank accounts and tried to flee from law enforcement. Crime.
They did EVERYTHING wrong in ways that led directly to murder. Their CRIMINALLY GROSS NEGLIGENCE got 4 people killed: Involuntary manslaughter.

There was that 3 min phone call from his wife before he called 911... Guess what she told him? Call the police and say this "I don't know what's going on, hoo hoo." This father is a nitwit who let his wife wear pants in the family. Life in jail will suit him just fine.

I can't listen to Her or Shannon Smith, They are two of the most evil non compassionate and shown no empathy to those children killed, injured and families. He comments he didn't know the killer has access to the guns. He didn't know about the Journal. Its called simple. Know what you child is doing. Check his backpack. I check my son's backpack everyday before he leaves to make sure his school work is done

If the parents had a "great relationship" with the shooter, as James' attorney claims, why didn't the parents get help for their son when he asked for it? Laughing at your kid and telling him to "suck it up" (or whatever the phrase was) when he asks for help doesn't sound like a "great relationship" to me.
