Crumbley's attorney talks about the case and why he didn't testify

- The verdict is in and the gag order has been lifted in the historic trials of the parents of the shooter who terrorized his classmates and teachers inside Oxford High School.
And the guy is threatening people from jail, etc. - yeah, this is a normal, upstanding citizen (who, while his kid was sitting in jail, ran from the police!). Who buys their emotionally disturbed 15-year old a handgun....and who doesn't wonder why it's the only thing the kid wants for Christmas? This guy will get out of jail, eventually - those kids are permanently dead and maimed and traumatized because this jackaloon used lousy judgement and was negligent, in so many ways. These convictions might stop some further shootings by making adults aware of their cuplability if they ignore tons of warning signs from their kids, buy their kids guns (???), etc. I have zero sympathy for this dude...and his old lady. If you don't wanna keep some sort of tabs on your kids, don't have kids - and if your kid is a friendless loner with mental problems you sure as hell don't wanna buy him a gun....and leave it lying around, unlocked. There was a young black guy in Flint who left a gun on a table, a few years ago, and a toddler picked it up and killed his sister - the guy went straight to prison. Nobody squawked about the guy going to prison. So no boo hoo for this guy, from me. The negligence from these parents was incredibly extreme - like off the charts. And that's why they got convicted.
Could not agree more! I hope this sets a real precedent. If the parents don't intervene, who else is there? School staff did everything they could, juggling the needs of 1689 other kids. All they needed the parents to do was care, and they failed. Also, I'm getting real tired of right-wingers threatening their prosecutors. A prosecutor's job doesn't involve personal vendetta, so you deal with the evidence against you like a responsible adult.
Well said I agree 100% 👏

This scumbag threatened the prosecutor! He deserves a lot of time behind bars!
And threatening the prosecutor he should be charged again
She’s utterly ridiculous. Her snotty voice describing how badly she feels is pathetic. 🙄
The jury got it right
Her job is to defend. She did it respectfully and I’m sure this case will haunt her forever for what the parents are going through. 😢
All parents need a wake up call. You are accountable for your child's misbehavior! Get it right! When your kid is screaming like a freak show, " I know my rights, you can't do this to me! " Thats because you didnt educate your children well enough!
Both parents failed their child. He asked for help, they didn't take him seriously. They gave him medication (prescribed to his mother) experimenting with the dosages. They knew his struggles. The school didn't know his home life background. Dad bought the gun. They were responsible
Oh wow did they really 'medicate' their son like that? That's sickening 😓
Lazy and lethal!
If he had testified we could have learned WHY the gun was not locked with the cable lock???? Making it useless.
Oh thats so much BS first he lied about having it hidden, why did he tell his son to "suck it up" when he TOLD HIS DAD HE NEEDED HELP...BS WHEN YOUR CHILD TELLS YOU HE WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME HELP.... HOW IN THE NAME OF GOD DID HE JUST BLOW THAT OFF????????? DO NOT BELIEVE HER FOR ONE FREAKING SECOND. SORRY NOT SORRY
It wasn't locked because they were negligent about EC ease of access to all 3 guns AND the ammunition.
They both knew that.
AND...2 days before the shooting, EC was caught by a teacher searching for ammunition on his phone in class.
You know what his MOTHER texted him after she heard the voice message from the school????
"LOL you have to learn not to get caught!"
What the actual???? There was the first siren. Right there.
@@ninamcgrath3053 Yes they were.
How in the hell is it negligence that his son looked up a site about obtaining bullets.@@ninamcgrath3053
Wasn’t illegal get over it
Then WHY were they HIDING in a warehouse????
Well if your home is a crime scene/media circus and the whole community hates you, why not?
Both juries got the verdict right! They all need to be in prisom for a long time.
Watch your BRATS CAUSE YOU MAY BE NEXT
What if the school just said you need to take your son home .just like they will do when your kid is sick.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I keep saying that in my head over and over … if the school had JUST… checked the back pack even …
They did ask parents to take him. Both JamC and JenC said they had to go to work and that EC would be at home alone. The school didn't think EC going home alone was a best choice.
That Worksheet was a road map for murder.
A road map
•drawing of the exact gun
•writing "help me" "the thoughts won't stop"
•"Blood Everywhere"
•an image of a student shot twice, exactly the wounds one of the victims suffered
A ROAD MAP for murder.
@@latanyaharris-gooden427 the parents, who knew they had 3 guns at their house. Doing nothing is negligent.
Guilty as sin. Shooter could NOT have done it without him. Two minutes to lock the gun. GROSS NEGLIGENCE
Less than 30 seconds to place a lock. Easy.
Just think if all parents didn’t have crazy kids?
@@phileasler5401 So many “crazy” kids they got an ATF pamphlet about it with the gun. It was still in the safe with the unused lock!
Well she didn't help.....shouting at witnesses, speaking at twice the sound of speed.....showing no respect for the families.......speaking up for this individual when he was threatening the prosecutor and others....he's got what he deserves.
JC showed his true character by threatening Prosecution!! In his little world everyone else is to blame - he still cannot accept responsibility or accountability
I also wouldn't trust this judge to discipline a kindergarten class, let alone sentence either of them. Let us pray!
The school failed ..
The school?! Excuse you?! So the school is responsible for the ineptitude of these "parents"? Wow!😂 Who bought a gun for a minor? The school? Who left a gun unsupervised, where an underage, who was clearly neglected, could easily have access to? The school as well? Who willingly ignored his need for help when he literally asked for it? Oh, right, the school too!! Jesus F Christ, you are definitely like these scumparents!!
This is true. I think there’s a lawsuit and I believe they didn’t do enough
You cannot prosecute the school, they wouldn’t like that
I watched this since the shooting. They feel horrible? "hindsight" because they got caught living their lives and forgetting about their son. They were absent in every way , they failed as parents. The lawyer does not know what kind of family they were she can only speak to what they told her. I am still standing by my first comment when they had vehicles "staged at a local motel, withdrew all money, packed bags and were at a Warehouse in Detroit. They were fleeing to Canada. Anyone that is familiar with Michigan knows they were minutes away. Waiting to see what was coming. If you were "innocent" and had nothing to worry about or, as Jennifer stated " She wouldn't have done anything different," why were they running then? If you did nothing wrong, they should have turned themselves in. Both Jurys got it right. If you are an involved parent, if you are a present parent, if you take care of your children and their well-being, tend to their basic needs, if you raise your children with love, respect, patience and intelligence, you do not have anything to worry about. They are children, not "friends." You can still be the "cool" parent without partying, smoking pot, drinking, swearing. You can be respected as a parent for disciplining, grounding, teaching and doing the hard things we need to do as parents even recognizing the difficult decisions if children need mental health checkups.
They need to get the stiffest sentence
I don’t like her at all!!!
Oh, so she can speak at a normal volume now. Half expected her to be shrieking at the interviewer like she did in court.
She says he feels terrible for the families like that’s a special thing … shouldn’t that just be a given? Everyone feels terrible for the families
He didn’t have a leg to stand on.
These broadcasters did a great job! Usually I wince but this presentation was clean, clear and well done!
He didn't testify because cross examination would not have been pretty.
Well, all I have to say is that Ms Lehman isn't crazy like Shannon Smith who defended Jennifer Crumbley. They both got the same verdict though because both of the Crumbley's are guilty of all charges brought against them.
Does this woman believe her own BS
This is what happen when an attorney can't be objective. If she lost a child due to JC actions/inactions she would have something different to say but who knows ... maybe not!
Maybe, but if he's still paying her money, she'll say whatever she needs to say regardless of whether she actually believes it.
Maybe it's called LOCK UP YOUR WEAPON. DUH.
Seriously.. how can they not be aware of their son taking the gun to school or even handling the gun without the parents consent… it was their job to know what was going on with their own son mentally… otherwise why have a child .. seriously it’s we didn’t know anything or anything to be aware of .. pass the bucket onto someone else .. such bad parenting at its worst even after verdict they still refuse to take no accountability for not checking in on their son’s mental wellbeing
He was GUILTY.
This guy I hope rots in jail. He was totally responsible . Terrible parent.
I would say he should take more blame than the mom. He BOUGHT the gun for his son!!!
@@user-pz3et9yb1f
He bought the gun however he wasn’t the one who purchased the ammunition for it 🤷🏻♀️ Jennifer did so a gun without ammo isn’t a threat
How precious that you feel "terrible for the families" if the dad "didn't know" WHY DID HE CALL 911? NOT BUYING HER JUNK ......
Because he started connecting the dots... meeting with the school THEN active shooter? Might have some start rethinking their day/sequence of events. He still didn't know what was going on with his son and that's why he called police. He didn't know what to think.
I agree, an attorney said that it wasn’t reasonably foreseeable until James heard of the shooting at the school. He wasn’t able to get to the school I guess due to the law enforcement and ambulances. When he called 911 at least he was being honest about what happened that day that his gun was missing. He could’ve easily said screw it. I’m fleeing right now.
@@andrewmusca8177so every other parent could get there except JC? 😂 don't be ridiculous. His son just told him the day prior that he was feeling severe mental issues and this kn0b said man up and gave him some pills. Ah well hopefully the judge tells him and his gross Mrs to man up at sentancing.
4:13 .... ma'am define "great relationship" please. Because from what it sounds like, it was not even close.
The parents are guilty!!!!!
We already know why he didn't testify. He didn't testify because he's guilty. He knows what he did. He wanted to leave the gun out there for his son. And when the shooting occurred, both of them knew who did it, and both of them knew why. People are not that stupid as they pretend to be. Stop living in fairytale land. We know that they know and they both knew.
She looks like Jennifer Crumbley. If he didn't do anything illegal why was he arrested?
They didn’t do anything illegal with the buying or storage of the gun. Karen charged them with involuntary manslaughter siting gross negligence. Those charges are totally different from what his attorney is saying
Everyone saw it except for the parents. That’s the problem.
Makes sense if they were offered a proffer to testify against the Crumbleys. I know the father of one of the victims stated that next he will go after the school administration and he should. This could have been prevented regardless if the Crumbleys didn't see the warning signs. This is a tragedy for everyone including us, "We The People!"
She shouldn't be explaining why he didn't testify, but why he didn't take a plea deal.
this attorney is coo coo
They are swingers , great parents ?
Were you swinging with them? Your comment is ignorant. And embarrassing! 🥴
They? It was Jennifer that was into that. Nothing was ever put into evidence that James knew about it or participated in it either.
And how the heck does that matter??
Who cares. Not illegal. Jeez. She got slut shamed at trial for something irrelevant.
@danidan9917 Usually I'd say it doesn't matter and we shouldn't judge her for what she was doing in that regards. HOWEVER, In this instance, it was proven that she was putting in so much time and effort into her affair and going online to set up 3 ways On MULTIPLE Swinger websites, that it took time away from interacting with her kid and being able to focus on his issues. Hell, THE DAY OF The shooting, when they had their meeting with the school about their son, she and her husband said they both had to work so they couldn't take him home. The husband/dad really had to go to work but the wife/mom didn't and instead went to meet up with her lover in a motel .
If he feels terrible he should have acted like it. One could argue, his lack of appropriate emotion and the threats could be a clue to why he completely disregarded his son’s plea for help.
Threatening the prosecutor...You're next!!!
That dean of students and counselor should be on trial too...they dropped the last ball
You don't have to worry about school shootings with remote education
This is not a good solution for all parents. Parents couldn't keep up with school lessons during the pandemic. For dual-parent households or those with extended families remote education may be a better option.
i've been saying prior to Jennifer Crumbley's conviction, that the school counselor and the dean(forget his official title) most definitely had culpability as well. Any reasonable person but these are professional counselors who should have searched Ethan Crumbley's book bag as the drawing on his math test was extremely distrubing to everyone! They thought he could be a danger to himself and these two could have prevented harm to everyone.
Her client bought his mentally disturbed son a gun. The jury reached the correct verdict. He’s 100% guilty
He wishes he made different decisions that day......uhm...so many days and decision opportunities way before.....this man didn’t take care of his first son....didn’t hold a job and let Jennifer run rough shod all over himself, his two sons and his ex....
It was a great verdict and parents need to be held accountable so screw this lawyer
Guilty of Horrible parenting but not this. Where are the Columbine parents who had to see BOMBS being made in the garage? And wearing those clothes, acting aggressively. Send them and all of us parents who make piss poor choices to jail.
No mercy on him come sentence time.. they are both evil…
The school officials involved bear accountability in case just as much as the parents. Sending him home with mom and dad should have been a mandate, not an option as it was.
James feels terrible, he threatened the prosecutor.
James is an entitled hothead who couldn't be bothered to waste his time parenting his child. Look at how he is shaking his head no during the reading of the verdict. He needs the max sentence so he can understand that it YES YOU ARE ACCOUNTABLE.
What she's saying is a gross insult to the Oxford community and all of us with common sense.
He DID do something illegal - he left it unlock “hidden”. I would NOT have bought my child a gun. Defense attorneys are one “special” breed.
Not a crime then
Every parent gets notified at the same time of an active shooter at their kids school. How many immediately drive home to see if their or their sons unsecured gun is missing? I bet he was the only parent who did because his first thought was my son is probably the shooter. The only credit I give him is calling 911 when he saw the gun missing. Then instead of supporting your disturbed, probably scared kid, you go on the run. The parents should have stayed to talk/visit him in jail/prison and told them they still love him and that they failed at being parents by not listening to him when he was crying out of help. I can't imagine how he felt after they abandoned him. Ethan, both his parents and the school are at fault! I know Ethan did something horrific, but I do have some sympathy for him. He knew he was sick, and the people who loved him the most took it as a joke, so why would he trust another adult to care? Of course, I feel much worse for everyone at the school for the trauma they are having to deal with and the parents of the children who didn't make it.
He didn’t drive home first 🤷🏻♀️ he went to Meijer and tried calling his son and when he couldn’t get in touch with him HE then went home. Sounds like you should watch the ENTIRE TRIAL
“Make the voices stop. Help me”. Should have been immediately placed in a psychiatric ward. Parents responsibility.
3:13 Does everything really have to be regulated by law so that people don't have to use their minds? Even if it wasn't regulated by law at the time, common sense should say that potentially lethal weapons should be locked away. If my child steals my car keys and hits someone dead while out for a joyride, I will be held responsible for seriously violating my duty of care. This should especially apply to deadly weapons. This lawyer makes me sick. Does this mean that in her eyes it would be OK to rob or kill someone if there is no law for it? Of course not, any sensible person would say it's still not okay. Period.
SYMPATHY Not JUSTICE!!!
With Liberty and JUSTICE for ( all ) SOME!!!!!
James never had a fair shot at getting acquitted
If those staff members got protection it should come with something else. The Crumbleys didn't do their jobs but neither did they and they know it.
Well, at least she didn't shout during the interview. At one time during the trial, the judge had to tell her to lower her volume.
She was overzealous
Why did he wear headphones the whole time?
Maybe your client shouldn’t have purchase a gun for his son or mom purchase ammunition
I wonder what he’s listening to on the headphones
We feel bad about it too! Of course he'd like for us to think that. But as for a gun, i could have easily said, " no, you cannot have a gun. " and i could have locked up any guns I had on hand. Why try and save him. Hes hardly employable. His wife on the other hand had a job. 4:43
He did not buy the bullets.
Unfortunately your client will have a life after jail time but 4 young are still dead and it’s that your client maybe not known the time and day when their son became a murderer
James Crumbley shouldn’t have purchased a gun for mental disturbed
i don’t think they would have been convicted if it were not for the gun they bought the kid …. just don’t buy the kid a gun or at the very least make sure it is sadly secured 24/7 …. not sure if mental help would have helped.. the kid said he did it to be famous… some people are evil and can’t be fixed …. all the more reason the not have or secure the gun
the appeal here would, should be about whether this crime is in the statute books...blessings to all
Is the going to get paid?
This attorney is weird. She is all over this man fixing his tie and touching up on a man who has a wife and probably hasn't had a woman's touch in a while. Blaming everyone else without accepting his responsibility as a parent is reprehensible. Their child was an inconvenience and they couldn't care less. No one has to tell a parent to secure firearms .... it's common sense. One trip to behavioral health would have helped. They couldn't be bothered. So he didn't take the stand and this attorney talks for him. He's a grown man like when will he man up. His son accepted and owned his role. All of a sudden he needs help with his hearing ... really! These parents can take a lesson from their son. My God, parents who did the right thing by their kids had to bury them. All the victim kids did was go to school.
Sometimes it's better to stay quiet and not say anything rather than open your mouth and erase all doubt that you're a fool. This interview was pointless. No remorse from anyone for the poor victim children - constant excuses are revolting. She knows how this man truly is yet she wants to paint him as sympathetic. He and his wife are self-centered people who had no business reproducing.
Didn’t he buy his son a pistol 🤔 um
I call bullshit on this defense attorney!
Still he bought the gun and had just secured the weapon with that cable lock 🔒 there would be no dead kids and James would not have been convicted.
i know these people have lost loved ones but that doesnt mean they can destroy another persons life.
Witch Hunt # 2 complete!
James Crumbly's attorney is very capable and did a great job. I think the only reason why she lost this case was because of the families of the victims sitting in the court room which made the jury give the families what they wanted. That kid was simply evil, selfish and ungrateful. Many people have grown up and are growing up in very unstable and bad environment but they don't go and shoot people or stab others. These parents don't deserve jail time but they shouldn't be allowed to contact that evil soul they brought to this world.
The jury foreperson said it came down to the storage of the gun and not getting mental health help. I'm still not understanding how that's a crime. They had a 10 minute meeting with the school and what was discussed wasn't alarming enough for anyone to think he needed to be taken out of school. There were no gun storage laws at that time. I am local and I complely sympathize with the families. I just dont know if this was the right decision based on the information that was presented to the jury.
No one cares about your facts emotions run the world nowadays,
@@FartMansionno one cares about your emotions, Kenneth. It’s not like either of you brain surgeons have read the law or bothered to understand jury instructions. The jury ruled and the human trash is swept where it belongs. Next stop 🪦
It was the right decision . The parents failed their child and their INACTIONS led to this
I keep asking myself that, if there were safe storage laws then the crumbleys didn’t have to lock up their fire arm. What if Ethan did not make any mentions about seeing ghosts which to me doesn’t equate to mental illness but his son needing help… would they have gotten charged?
His lawyer says sometimes you can miss signs of mental illness in your own kid, ok, well that’s why you don’t leave guns and ammo lying around the house.
This attorney did such a great Job
Yep, she did a great job ensuring he was found GUILTY...
as far as defense attorneys go, I have nothing but respect for her. she was very respectful, eloquent and well spoken.
GUILTY
They didn't do anything illegal. If the prosecution wants changes to be made, they need to talk to their representatives to write new laws. Not charge people because you didn't like their actions.
They absolutely did illegal things:
1) They bought a handgun for a minor. That is 💯 illegal. An actual crime.
2) They failed to secure the gun. Negligence.
3) They did both of those things whilst knowing their son was violent at home, mentally unstable, and abusing alcohol. They failed to take him home when the school begged them to. Gross negligence.
4) After the shooting, they emptied bank accounts and tried to flee from law enforcement. Crime.
They did EVERYTHING wrong in ways that led directly to murder. Their CRIMINALLY GROSS NEGLIGENCE got 4 people killed: Involuntary manslaughter.
There was that 3 min phone call from his wife before he called 911... Guess what she told him? Call the police and say this "I don't know what's going on, hoo hoo." This father is a nitwit who let his wife wear pants in the family. Life in jail will suit him just fine.
She wore the strap on too 😂😂😂😂😂
Prosecutor is a Liar & Out of line
She was better than Jennifer’s attorney.
You can’t make 💩 be gold.
James was guilty.
NO CASE. Regardless of the jury verdict. Appeals are coming, as is legal action against that art gallery and the arresting officers. That is all. This case is NOT OVER.

And him returning to school
So many scenarios

No
You dont know his determination
I can't listen to Her or Shannon Smith, They are two of the most evil non compassionate and shown no empathy to those children killed, injured and families. He comments he didn't know the killer has access to the guns. He didn't know about the Journal. Its called simple. Know what you child is doing. Check his backpack. I check my son's backpack everyday before he leaves to make sure his school work is done
BULLSH*T, he feels terrible for the victims -- he feels terrible for himself!!! Their child was crying out for help and what did they do? Mama laughed and daddy said "Suck it up."
If the parents had a "great relationship" with the shooter, as James' attorney claims, why didn't the parents get help for their son when he asked for it? Laughing at your kid and telling him to "suck it up" (or whatever the phrase was) when he asks for help doesn't sound like a "great relationship" to me.
"Maybe different decisions could have been made." Ya think?
