35W is the wattage of the arc GPU alone not the whole cpu.
65W of Amd is the whole cpu power draw.
Super gut video thank you!
thanks for the effort! 💛
Nice video, and the only so far of its kind, so much appreciated! I have been looking at buying the upcoming Onexplayer X1 and I am really torn seeing these results. How much of this performance gap do you attribute to drivers? Obviously, the 780m has been on the scene for a while now and AMD has been great at optimizing drivers for it. With better drivers, do you expect we will see more equalized results between the two iGPUs? And if so, how much time do you think it will take before we get there? Last question, would you be so kind as to do some more testing with XESS on the Intel chip and FSR on the AMD chip and see how the results compare (both in terms of image quality and FPS)? Thanks for the great work!
Really hard to predict that. On the one hand I had really bad experience with Intel iris xe driver optimization in the past. It didn't change a lot, even after years!
On the other hand the handheld manufacturers might handle this themselves. And/or push Intel.
Some reviewers seem to have better performance on the Msi claw for example. I just hope for the best. Competition is important.
@@Hubwood agreed! Competition is on the side of the consumer, so we are the beneficiaries. I get where you are coming from regarding Intel's Iris Xe drivers; they were never adequate, especially in comparison to AMD's offer. However, I just hope that since the new technology is based on Arc and since there is a push for better GPU performance by Intel, that they will take their product more seriously and deliver true competition to AMD, because as it stands, based on your results, there is still no competition!
Hubwood 🤣 at 6:31 . Good one!!
Had a hangover and little sleep yesterday. Lol.😂
Intel Arc is a good step forward but Intel still needs massive energy when it has a load. The Ryzen just works much better if both are at 30W (yes people, look the complete video) . I have the legion go and I’m totally happy with the machine and AMD’s performance. It’s also known that the best for the Z1 Extreme is 7,500 MT/s RAM and 5-6 GB of “VRAM” (shared RAM) which is my case and the performance is great. I also have mine plugged in to my TV and it works great @ 1080p (the TV is 4K). If I want, I plug in my eGPU and it flys 😊
What to improve in Q4 2024/2025: 24-32 GB RAM, even better chip.
Interesting to see if they make any optimisations for the MSI claw and would love to see some XESS performance on the Intel IGPU as I doubt you would use FSR on it really
Im sure the MSI Claw will have to be optimized alot. They can't sell it like that... (imho)
Very nice AMD 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for the bench, Hub! 😁
Much needed leap for integrated PC graphics!
Me parece muy extraño el uso de vram me parece que no se está midiendo correctamente, no habrá una confusión con la vram asignada y vram en uso???
Thanks for the video. However, do you know a software named Ryzen Controller? It might be possible to limit ASUS notebook power consumption to 30W with it, assuming you still have the notebook.
There's better apps out there to limit power and tdp limiting. Universal x86 tuning utility, Google it.
I think these FPS apps should start adding standard deviation in the FPS count. Would be nice to also know the extent of FPS variation over the course of the benchmark. Or at least a CV count.
Will you make a vid about how AFMF affect legion go / rog ally gameplay?
If you capped it to 60fps, will it have lesser latency increased ?
Not planning that right now. But capping fps with MF/FG will always cause a higher latency. Yes.
I backed a X1 with the 155 hoping for z1 extreme gaming performance but man was I wrong, do you think with driver updates the 155 will get to were the 780m is gaming performance? If not even with driver updates then idk ill probably cancel. If the 155 can get there with driver updates then Id happily keep it because I really like the X1.
Well I'm sure it will be optimized slot in these handhelds.
Otherwise these companies would commit suicide ;)
Well see what they are able to pull of. These drivers are new and u optimized yet.
@@Hubwood yeah I'm just going to wait a few more weeks and see how updates go and if any other CZcamsrs get the device to test. I really do hope it gets a driver and needs to perform well and really be competition
Can you please make a video with the 2k resolution? I know the fps would be low but with some tweaks or graphics set at low it should work!
Awesome video thanks for comparing, looks like the new intels have only one thing going for them, the occulink port lol
Which ones have Occulink?
06:35 I already was about to complain xD. Thanks for the video, doesnt look very promising, but at least we have competition i guess. I usually dont like to use this term but the MSI claw looks like DOA to me, especially to that price.

I look forward to Strix Point. But I bet it will only be available on select models over $1200 USD with weird screen sizes and with NVidia iGPUs attached. :/
I have Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro with R7 7840HS which has the same 780M APU. An i noticed that my card was limited to 30W, but I as i know this APU could go higher on other laptops. And you know what? It was locked in the system settings (Lenovo Vantage application). After adding more juice, the 780M started using ~38-40W and I got around 5-10% of extra performance without noticeable temperature gain.
Definitely the best APU for now.
Guys chill these are very early beta drivers give the chip time the 780m drivers are very mature with half a year of updates competition is great I will buy one day one to support intel amd and nvidia need competition asap and for a first shot coming that close is amazing and with a few patches we could see it matching or beating the 780m
Yeah.
I hope the drivers get ALOT better.
But from my pretty long benchmarking experience with Intel Iris XE since it's release... not alot is going to happen.
BUT I really hope I am wrong here, seriously. Not a fanboy. I just want good competition which is better for all of us.
Here is the thing.
We had this happen with the Ally and the Lenovo Go. There is no way to telling how much support a company will throw at their device. They still have budgets and time allocation to follow. I Don't think it's going to get much better at day one. I always keep expectations low.
@@emperorbraphomet Drivers for intel GPUs are entirely done by Intel themselves instead of like AMD who says the manufacturer is responsible for driver updates. So support will be entirely down to Intel and their ARC drivers, not MSI
Currently testing the MSI CLaw with the 125H (the "small" one).
It performs identical to the 125H I've tested in aN ACER Laptop a while ago.
No improvement at all yet.
In dave2d direct comparison, the msi got slightly higher fps at 30 w vs the rog ally 25 w. Also, the claw has higher tdp options than the ally and go.
Thanks for sharing the comparison
I guess that the Claw will be as an emulator killer instead of a handheld gaming pc
Thanks!!
I'll just be looking forward to the Claw releasing and causing another sale of the legion go so I can pick one of those up, msi's only chance is intel radically improving the drivers to bring the performance closer to the Zen extreme which I do think is possible BUT they have to also beable to beat it on battery efficiency, that's the only way people will be willing to take a slight performance hit that's IF it comes with superior battery life, plugged in I think the Claw will actually out perform the Ally and Go cause their chips max at 35w while the Claw can goto 65w I believe so plugged in if the drivers get fixed, the Claw should definitely have a big advantage
2 month after what about new driver ? and bios update ?
that baldur's gate at 8:10 had a significant difference, intel igpu had no ambient occlusion and even lower quality of textures, it wasn't even able to load everything and lost if settings were the same
Settings have been the same. What you're seeing is driver related ... Could be fixed in the future though
@@Hubwood assumption was: either game is forcing it down, or drivers have problems rendering it properly, because even if ther are the same, they don't look like it
and does it increase performance? lower it? becuase there are some errors and error managing, whatever goes in the pipeline, could affect performance either way
Wow AMD shines at the ending. Its not much slower with 30W. Impressive.
For those who want an Intel based handheld, Lunar Lake processors are coming later this year. During CES Intel promised significant IPC increase, highly improved performance per watt profile, 3X faster NPU (for those who might care about such feature) and most importantly it will feature 2nd gen Arc Battlemage architecture for its iGPU. It will have its RAM modules directly mounted on the SoC package (which iGPUs can only benefit from) and will very likely come with the usual Intel features such as Thunderbolt 5 and Wi-Fi 7. AMD will have Zen5 APUs but those will still use RDNA 3 architecture and on an inferior process node compared to Lunar Lake.
But that doesn't mean Meteor Lake handhelds shouldn't exist. MTL is laying the foundation for future lineups that will leverage integrated Arc graphics. Having a strategic partnership with a big OEM such as MSI will serve to give Arc more exposure to game developers. Not everyone trust or even considers products made by Chinese vendors. The only handhelds that are taken seriously are those made by big companies such as Valve, Asus, Lenovo and now MSI. Sad but true. Whether people like it or not there will be millions of those chips being sold as AMD consistently failed to supply enough mobile chips to OEMs. I won't be surprised if OEMs pick Lunar Lake over whatever AMD offers later this year for next gen handhelds if Intel guarantees them good supply.
Interesting comment. Thanks for sharing.
Don't expect more than +30% performance over Meteor-Lake which is not much faster than the current Ryzen 7000 series. Its always a bad sign when intel has to advertise its NPU speed instead of the numbers gamers actually care about.
@samserious1337 Intel advertised an increased CPU IPC and much better performance per watt for Lunar Lake which are stuff handheld gamers care about. And I think they're waiting to launch the discrete Battlemage GPUs before giving details on the iGPU variant in LNL similar to how it went between discrete Alchemist and the iGPU version in MTL. Battlemage dGPUs are expected to come out before Lunar Lake this year.
With everything it brings to the table I can see LNL graphics performance being doubled over MTL especially if they managed to fix the Alchemist hardware flaws in Battlemage. And more so as they are moving from TSMC N5 to TSMC N3B node for both the CPU (4P+4E cores) and iGPU on a new graphics architecture (8 Xe2 cores) and LPDDR5x-8533 on-package DRAM (2 soldered modules of 16GB each, making 32GB both the max capacity and the new standard as LNL which was co-developed between Intel and Microsoft needs more RAM capacity for AI applications on their upcoming Windows 12 OS).
As far as I'm aware Zen5 isn't getting the TSMC 3nm treatment this year nor is it getting on-package DRAM to reduce latency and power consumption. Maybe that will change at some point but in the near future AMD won't be in a strong position against Intel in the thin-and-light mobile space later this year being on an inferior TSMC N4 node. Intel will have products based on TSMC 3nm way before AMD which most people didn't expect would ever happen. And they're already on their way to grab TSMC N2 capacity as well while still producing their own 20A and 18A based chips for desktop and high power laptops.
@@Patrick73787AMD and Intel brothers, they work together to monopolize the x86 x64 CPU, there's a reason why ryzen 8000 and intel 14th didn't improve significantly
because they gave intel ultra a highlight
What needs to be seen is the transition to CPU arm in the next few years , because there is more than one license owner and they will compete
Correction: those Zen 5 APUs will be using RDNA 3.5, and adding more CUs to some of their chips.

Not bad for Intel's first generation of APU's.

Intel can just get better and better from this first starting point.
Hmm, maybe?
I don't ask much from Lenovo or Asus or msi if I only want 32GB of ram and if not at least 24GB so at least 8 or 12 of vram could be used without problems
This. Even 6gb vram is pushing it. Forza keeps telling me my ram is getting low. A game shouldn’t tell me that and no I don’t have anything running but the game with a good manual debloat
A little disappointed you did not test the XMX XeSS pathway at all. I am reffering to image quality and comparing that against FSR which can be an artifact ridden mess. Granted, its best to test image quality on the actual 7inch panel, as that can hide more aliasing, but the interesting prospect here would be: Does the XMX pathway provide close to DLSS image quality, which may be a compromise against the 10% performance deficit of the poor intel drivers
As an Ally and GPD daily user. I am frankly sick of the poor upsclers and ghosting where FSR-upscaled games have terrible ghosting even on small screens. Xess may provide a legitimate advantage but the device needs to be 100-200$ cheaper, otherwise regardless of IQ, the CLAW is simply DOA.
You might want to put the average wattage drawn out too, since ~60W vs ~35W is not a fair fight.

Hello. Are these laptops hard to find? It doesn't seem like any other reviewers are even mildly interested in these new intel chips. The few got their early review models, did quite low effort reviews then nothing. Maybe the real life performance that you are showing is the reason. Whether driver issues, or hardware only time will tell. Nice comparison though!
Yeah they are hard to find. Which is a Shame really... Especially for the AMD CPU.
The Intel is brand new, so WE might see more of them soon.
In my country I can't find a single laptop on that new AMD APU. Only renamed zen 3 + vega, like Ryzen 5-7530U.
And in the budget category crazier, they sell Ryzen 5-7520U, which has 4c/8t base on zen 2. Intel i3 1215u is way better in that price range, 6c/8t and better iGPU.

Now if the performance somehow surprises and the price geos down fast.. it might survive though ;)
Amd vram how??
It's the laptop I think. Sth like auto vram size....
one part is running with 35 Watts and the other is running 70 watts ... And do remember that the intel part is still new ... As example the inter 770 in the beginning was slower than 3050 and now with good driver support is as fast as the 3070
See 6:30
@@Hubwood yes .. for now it looks like the AMD part is doing better .... I hope in the next 90 days intel will get better software out in order to challenge AMD to do better ....
@@stanislavshopov85 everybody should hope that 😊
No. The Intel APU is drawing MORE power while also being slower. It's literally right there if you use your eyes and brain.
Well thanks for being polite. I always thought that being disrespectful is the correct way to show how correct you are and how wrong others are. That will teach me not to question stuff.@@davidfaustino4476

The end.
amd is winner
Kinda ironic, amd win by giving their chip with higher power. Amd consuming 30-50% higher power than intel. Looks like table has turned for them
No. They also win with less power. As you can see in the second half of the video.
This comparision is useless.
First: almost double the power usage is some game. But you compare with the legion go.
I understand what you wanna show/proof, but the result is just a useless comparission from a data perspektive.
How's it useless if even the 30w legion go outperformed the 35w Arc igpu. That is useful for some people obviously.
@@Hubwood It's really useless, other videos of Intel Core Ultra 5 135h (OneXPlayer x1) can reach 80-100 fps running Forza Horizon at 1080p.
DON'T PUT CLAW ON YOUR VIDEO TITLE FOR CLICKBAIT, kinda misleading. Unsubscribed.
Wait for the actual device, That's how desperate you're for the views?
@@chronus5904kk bye!
P. S. If the claw will ACTUALLY be that much faster it's still not useless. It'll show that the name itself means nothing with Intel due to driver issues and bad optimization... 🤷♂️
Also:I said "LIKE" claw. Same cpu. You know? 🤷♂️ Not everybody know, that these are the cpus used in the msi claw.
@@Hubwood Yeah right, super desperate for views. 🤷
this is not arc gpu its iris in disguise lmao
~65W vs ~35W???
RIP Claw
I can only imagine MSI must be able to do magic to somehow pull this off...
@@Hubwood Might be that's why the tests being delayed 'Cuz MSI will replace the iGPU. COPIUM
Not bad for Intel, now it’s playable on igpu
Goodbye Intel, you came you saw and you failed 😂
iGPU of Intel is garbage.
It's indeed Intel integrated garbage producing unit
intel lying about their iGPUs for the n time xd
So, intel still sucks. Looks like I'll be waiting for an ROG Ally 2 or something
Or maybe msi can surprise us. Who knows 🤷♂️
@@Hubwood I hope so, I was really considering getting the MSI Claw as well.
Intel igpu: Intel integrated garbage producing unit
Intel is only good if you match them up with Nvidia, AMD rollin solo😂
poor intel same/worse CPU performance compared to previous gen, can't even catch up to AMD...
The TDP on the AMD is TWICE of that on Intel. That's a horrible way to do comparison.

fake video fake score in games
Yeah... No. Not fake. But keep accusing people for no reason and without any proof. You'll get far 😂
intel is still a loser
Cool! Another fanboy video hoping to mislead the general public. *Thumbs down*
Cool.
You're wrong about that.
I'm not an AMD or intel fanboy but just use whatever suits my needs and had both Ryzen and intel CPUs in the last years while actually using both of them right now in my laptop and my desktop...
Wow 780m consumes almost double power Consumption more than Intel arc.
Compare Core Ulltra 9 185H or if you want to compare Ultra 7 155H so compare it against Ryzen 7 7840Hs.
> Wow 780m consumes almost double power Consumption than Intel arc.
How to tell somebody did not watch the entire video ... 7940HS has higher power draw as it has a higher TDP set. The 7840U (Z1 Extreme) uses less power (second part of the video). 6:30 please play from this point, Hubwood already has a answer for you.
Fyi, I have a 7840HS and done extensive testing, reality is beyond 30W there is little to no gain for 780m, as its so bandwidth limited at that point. So you get more massive gains from faster memory, but not from power increases. Your just wasting energy at that point for nothing but more heat and noise.
Tell me that you didn't watch video till the end without telling that you didn't...

I have watched full video. When MSI Claw will launch globally so Intel will release a new driver to optimize low power performance.
I have seem people talking about a Enbargo product in "X" which will provide better gaming than 7840U while consuming less power than AMD. We will learn soon.

Very impressive for Intel and soon it will beat AMD significantly because Strix point don't have rdna 4.
I really can't see anything impressive here 😂
