Inside Out 2 Isn't As Great As Everyone Says (SPOILERS) | i don't have a nose

- I feel like I come off as though I dislike the original movie but I honestly don't - I just don't see it in the same light as other people, it seems. I appreciate the messages and I enjoy it overall. The sequel, however, while I didn't dislike it as such, is lacking in the same level of creativity. I've seen a lot of opinions online claiming it to be a stellar return to form for Pixar but in my opinion, it's an average sequel at best and largely a rehash.
Please remember these are my opinions and if you loved the movie, that's great. I just have some issues that hinder it from being a classic in my eyes.
Also, this video might look a little more unpolished compared to the usual as I had to use clips from trailers and had a very limited selection. As such, you'll find some clips are reused but I tried to vary it as much as possible!
Note: At 12:24, I feel I should probably have elaborated on this to explain my perspective. I'm aware Joy isn't rejecting emotions here, but learning to accept all emotions is basically the same lesson as learning to accept good and bad memories, so it feels as though Joy's character arc has been partially retconned despite the fact that she acknowledges Sadness.

3:20 THANK YOU, oh my god. A Bug's Life is so criminally underappreciated and I'd still argue is one of the studio's most timeless and entertaining films. It's a shame it's gotten the least love out of any Pixar film but it's still one of their all time best for so many reasons
I've always felt it's amongst their very best and yet it's never talked about or simply dismissed as a decent movie.
Inside Out was my favorite Pixar movie but now it's Inside Out 2

I completely agree and I can actually say I think Riley is not actually a good person despite what the movie tries to imply at the end because she does in the first movie steal her parents' credit card and then in the second movie she not only breaks into the coach's office, but she actively ditches her friends and pretends to be a wholly different person when she meets a new crowd of girls which just shows that she is a very shallow and kind of pathetic person. I honestly wonder what they're going to do if they make more sequels because without disgust she's basically going to have no self-awareness, nor self-reflection. She's so much a follower that I actually think she would be one of those girls who ends up taking drugs and even possibly getting pregnant at like 16 because she's that suggestible. I wish the movie would have actually shown how bad peer pressure seems to be affecting her because this would have shown girls that peer pressure is a real and dangerous thing. He doesn't seem to really suffer any actual consequences from behaving like this, and this can include feeling self-directed disgust for behaving that way which she doesn't seem to feel at all, which I don't think is honestly a good sign. Feelings of disgust are closely connected to remorse and guilt. She seems like a deeply insecure person and I don't know why the movie doesn't really explore her parents realizing that she's like that, but rather they just seem to treat it as something her emotions have to deal with and that seems to come with a strong rationalization of said actions.
I agree that it makes no sense for Envy and even Ennui to be there because honestly they do nothing. I think this movie confuses Envy with admiration, which is weird since Envy is a corruption of admiration, since it is a resentment of the person and a desire to be and have what that person has to the possible detriment of the other person and oneself. It is a very dangerous emotion and is not a primary emotion, nor I'd argue a universal one since a good chunk of the population has never felt it ever. The reason for the concept of primary emotions is because they are universal, or at least they're meant to be, but literally parts of the population have never felt either of these two emotions. I do like your idea of pairing off the emotions but honestly Disgust would be quick to see a huge problem with Envy; I think because Envy would likely quickly cause social suicide and moral repugnance from the social group. Disgust is there to protect Riley from both physical and social dangers, so feeling envious of someone and acting on those feelings by say touching the person inappropriately would at best cause them to feel disgusted and at worst get a restraining order. In reality, envy is usually kept in check by a combination of disgust and joy. Joy because you feel happy/joyous that the other person has those things and disgust because you feel disgusted with yourself for feeling that you want/feel entitled to what that person has and want to be them to the detriment of yourself. In fact we see this exact thing play out in the movie itself when Envy tries to touch Disgust and she backs away.
I can say that I have actually said I'm disgusted because I get extreme second-hand embarrassment infused with intensive amounts of disgust to the point of sheer debilitation sometimes up to 20 to 30 times a day. It only really happens every 3 weeks now which is a vast improvement to the like I said 20 to 30 times a day when I was little and watching TV or just interacting with people. But yeah, I do get why people wouldn't think that disgust is primary because disgust is a result of external factors more than the other emotions. But as the movie shows disgust controls a lot of social interactions because it tells us how to conduct ourselves, stay safe, and keep others safe from us. Overall I just think the movie is kind of meh and results in the wrong emotions being presented at the wrong times. I also think Joy is an absolute dictator and basically anxiety is just her mini me.
For me, I enjoyed up enjoying this movie a fair bit more than the first movie. I wasn’t really a fan of the first movie as I thought the plot wasn’t very strong, the leads weren’t the most likeable and the movie’s humour felt undercooked. The first movie definitely had some very strong points and I wouldn’t call it bad, it just wasn’t one of the Pixar greats for me.
I am still fresh off the second movie but my first impressions at least are more positive. I think the movie found a really natural way to continue and expand upon this universe and I overall found the plot stronger and the characters more enjoyable. I enjoyed the new ideas this movie showed off and I personally do disagree with the pacing point. The first movie had a repetition issue where Joy/Sadness try to get somewhere, something bad happens just as they are about to reach their destination which means they have to take an alternative route, rinse and repeat. The first movie also felt like it had some notable filler, the biggest example being that whole dream sequence where they try and wake Riley up. They could have let Riley sleep and then that wouldn’t have led to Riley running away, it felt contrived and like a large piece of padding. The 2nd movie didn’t really have anything like that to my recollection (or at least to the same extent as the first movie) and that definitely helped me enjoy the movie more.
I will say though that you do make solid points about some of the characters being underutilised (due to the larger cast of characters) and the stakes not being as high as the first movie, those are definitely some fair criticisms. Overall though, I definitely did enjoy the second movie more surprisingly enough and I would call it one of the better Pixar sequels. I think it did manage to successfully justify its existence which I cannot say about the weaker Pixar sequels. It’s still not as good as pre 2010s Pixar’s output but it is one of the better post 2010s Pixar movies in my eyes. The first movie for me is like a low 6, the second movie is teetering between a 7 and 8 for me.

I haven't seen Inside Out 2 so I can't give my takes on the movie's pros and cons nor give my opinions on it. But I will say that Inside Out was a really good movie and it is a underrated gem that doesn't get that much attention.
I think i was a bit grown for this movie . Inside out was far better tbh ,i m 20 i can still watch it and feel connected.. But this sequel seems a bit more relatble for early teenagers only . And i too feel that old emotions and few new ones like boredom were not well executed in movie.

I'm honestly yet to see this one as I'm waiting until it's on Disney Plus, that being said with the exception of this one I sort of feel Pixar sequels don't have the same heart as the original movie that they came from.
I just watched Ratouille for the first time in about 5 years (Maybe more) today funnily enough and I couldn't help but think that Pixar will never reach the same heights of that speech Ego gives, it was truly profound and gave me a whole other level of appreciation for it with all these Sequels that Pixar and even other studios are doing.
Ever since Disney bought them out, they've been churning out largely lesser movies. It's sad, really. You can do far worse than most Pixar movies but I agree that it seems the golden age is long behind us.
I did like the movie but i didn't like it as much as the first. i also thought there was far too many new characters that didn't really have a reason to exist like anxiety was great but did we really need the other 3? it seams like those other emotions role was already being fulfilled by the already existent ones. the French one is basically just disgust embarrassment is just fear and envy just feels like anxiety. i did still like ryleys story and the anxiety attack at the end was a really powerful moment but i feel like if they just had anxiety as a new character and ditch the other 3 nothing would really be lost.
Envy Ennui and Embarrasment were all important to the plot, not as important as anxiety but still. Ennui is how sadness controlled the board, Embarrasment helped Sadness to hide and envy helped anxiety with her plan. Also having just 1 new emotion doesn't really feel like it could make a whole sequel.
I agree with you about Inside Out the first one but I haven’t seen the second one yet.

You are picking not that relevant stuff. Ye, there are many emotions that we have and they had just 5 of them in the first movie.
While you get it half right, some of those don't really matter until later. Like anxiety. Small kids don't really go through the anxiety they wanted to show. For them it's more like sadness and fear combined.
Embarrassment is actually one of those emotions that show themselves first while growing up. But you are literally picking stuff and saying "it's not like I imagine it... Therefore not that good". You won't enjoy many movies with this attitude...
They actually hired renowned psychologist as a consultant for the movie. I think that their say on what and how the characters feel is much more reliable and important than your "I don't feel it".
Would love to see your work... All you did was "don't like this, don't like that, I liked this a bit" but you didn't give any alternative on how it should look like to be better. Typical "critic" behaviour. Then people come and clap thinking the video actually has value while it's just a rant...

I don't review a movie based on college psychology classes. I review it based on whether *I* perceive it to be a good movie, particularly narratively. And narratively, this second movie covers a lot of ground that was already covered and besides Anxiety and arguably Embarrassment, the new emotions don't serve any real purpose. I get the point of having Envy present from a psychological perspective, but she does nothing for the movie. Nothing she does majorly impacts the plot. In any case, it's an opinion. I appreciate the effort filmmakers go to to ensure accuracy but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be anything more than an average movie. Imo this movie wasn't terrible but also wasn't necessary.

You definitely present yourself like that... We have your copy in our country too, just with higher numbers. When he reviewed Kung Fu Panda just by his gut and after 10 minutes of mumbling said it's not worth his time to even review it after milking it for months, people rightfully dunked on him.

Please, put some more work into thinking about stuff... Movies, written text and so on. You are not an ordinary viewer, when you do reviews. You should be the one doing the thinking, not just "ugh, weird, me no likey".
And to make it clear- I don't have a problem with people having different tastes or not liking the movies I like. I have a problem with unfair judgement and when people take literally the best things, say "nu-uh" and then just walk away like they said something interesting while not giving us any alternative.

Finally someone else who wasn't a fan. Also I am not really a fan of Riley. And I'm sorry but you are telling me that Riley gets anxiety at the age of 13? Sorry film but that's dose not happen. Kid's get anxiety at different ages. Also Riley does something around near the end of the film. She is never in trouble for it.
Are you saying 13yo's cannot get anxiety? Everyone can have anxiety no matter what age.
