    Honestly even the “legacy riding into the sunset” argument doesn’t make sense, is Stipe the greatest HW of all time based on Resumé? Yes. Is that Stipe the same one that would fight Jones? Undoubtedly no. This isn’t a case of GSP/Cejudo coming back after 3 years. Stipe is currently 42 he’ll be 43 by the time Jones is feasibly able to fight again and his last fight years ago ended in him getting brutally KO’d. Like Dana always says and it’s pretty much a yammering sentence we hear in combat sports “you’re only as good as your last fight” which for Stipe means someone not worthy of a titleshot end of story. As for Jones 5 months ago we had Dana clapping on to Islam for the quote he gave about ‘what it means to be a champion’. Dana has been harping ever since that this is the way Champions to behave to basically be able and more importantly be willing to defend your belt against whichever opponent is present. All of a sudden Dana seems to have conveniently forgot about both quotes. Seeing as he’s giving a guy who last fight ended in a KO 3 years ago a title shot and allows his champ to pick whichever fight he wants to have… as someone who’s usually a fan of Dana he seems to have stunk up a lot of the matchmaking

      Unfortunately to us, if he beats stipe that doesn't mean much. But to a more mainstream audience, Jones had beat the Heavyweight GOAT

    Everyone on earth will watch Stipe vs Jones and the mma fight makers know it. And the fuel Jones will have after a good performance against Miocic would be insane

      I agree, for a mainstream audience Jones VS Stipe is the fight to make. But it Jon retires after, it will be a real shame to miss out on Jones VS Aspinall

    Thanks for covering this. The problem, and something I'm furious about, is that Dana is angry at Francis Ngannou for tarnishing the UFC heavyweight division, and for setting a precedent where he broke free from the UFC monopoly in their restrictive contracts.
    The UFC is holding Aspinall's career in permanent limbo, because they need to promote Jon Jones, in order to reduce the status of Ngannou as being the greatest UFC heavyweight. Everyone knows that Francis blasted through Stipe like it was a joke, and that's all they remember about Stipe Miocic; meaning Francis Ngannou is the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time, and the UFC doesn't like this.
    This whole situation is petty and gross, and Dana should be forced to step down from his role in making fights over this whole situation. From a fan, and business standpoint, this is gross negligence.
    Hunter and Dana are ruining the heavyweight division and destroying Aspinall's rare and special career as one of the best MMA fighters in history. There will never be another Tom Aspinall, his athleticism, fight IQ, excitement level, and punching power is unheralded.

      It's such a shame isn't it, the heavyweight division is the best it's ever been and they don't get to fight!

    Show some respect they never should’ve made the interim. Maybe Tom should shut up and defend his interim belt before he becomes the real one. Jon and stipe retiring the belt so get over it

    • @NorthernLightsCombat
      @NorthernLightsCombat  Před 2 měsíci

      You're right, they shouldn't of made it an interim fight. But unfortunately, they did, and Tom answered the call and now he should be in line for the next shot.

    Jones earned the belt and wants to defend it one time and walk off into the sunset

    • @NorthernLightsCombat

      He should defend it against the interim champion

    • @valvevac-systemchecker3773

      It’s not how it works if there’s a champ and an interim champ you gotta unify, stipe is not at the calibre that he once was he’s 40+ hasn’t fought in 3 years and lot his last bout by KO and that’s who Jones wants to fight?

    • @zombieepx1933
      @zombieepx1933 Před 2 měsíci

      hardly a legit interim champ though lets be real, that only became a thing because jones got injured and the ufc needed to hype up a card last minute lol. Toms way over hyped right now going to be devastating when he loses@@valvevac-systemchecker3773

      @@NorthernLightsCombatyea. He fought gane, which everyone knew it was gonna be over quick, gane was outwrestled by francis, who cant wrestle. He shouldve fought stipe in the beginning or someone like tom aspinal coming up. Especially since gane just lost his title shot previously and randomly gets another one.....Thats BS

    • @NorthernLightsCombat
      @NorthernLightsCombat  Před 2 měsíci

      Gane shouldn't get a titleshot for a long time now, he was outclassed by Jones. He'd be better sticking to kickboxing

    @zombieepx1933 Před 2 měsíci +1

    You brits are hyping up Tom way too hard, he has two good wins under his name. Try not to forget the interim title came about due to Jones injury to save a card, its not like Tom actually scraped his way to the top to get there. Cyril gane or the rematch against Blaydes makes more sense to be his focus right now rather than Jones

    • @NorthernLightsCombat
      @NorthernLightsCombat  Před 2 měsíci

      So why even have an interim champion then? Tom took the risk and now he deserves the rewards

    • @zombieepx1933
      @zombieepx1933 Před 2 měsíci

      jones has been set to fight stipe since back when aspinal was coming off a loss. the deal has been signed on by both parties. aspinal is only on a 2 fight win streak, thats hardly deserving of an interim title shot. Besides Jones is out for awhile so aspinal should be looking at defending his "interim" either against Gane or avenging his loss against Curtis@@NorthernLightsCombat

    • @zombieepx1933
      @zombieepx1933 Před 2 měsíci

      aspinal had only beaten Tybura after losing to blaydes before getting that interim title shot. very last minute. The interim title produced by Jones injury 2 weeks prior.@@NorthernLightsCombat

    • @NorthernLightsCombat
      @NorthernLightsCombat  Před 2 měsíci

      But that still doesn't answer the question, why make Tom the interim champion then? Stipe is healthy and he should fight tom. If neither of them want tom, get off the pot and let the division flourish

    • @zombieepx1933
      @zombieepx1933 Před 2 měsíci

      @@NorthernLightsCombat I already said why. Because it was last minute to save a card that was already heavily invested into by the ufc because they planned on getting a huge return from jones vs stipe. Tom and Sergei benefited from jones injury big time.

      Look I'll be fare Tom can fight and is getting better with every fight nobody can deny that. But Jon is that freak of nature that comes every thousand years. Tom may become champion one day but he will never fight the caliber of fighters and champions that jon has the fact is the heavyweight division just doesn't have those guys and really never has.

    • @NorthernLightsCombat
      @NorthernLightsCombat  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That's true, the heavyweight division unfortunately never has had the highest calibre of skill level. But it seems it has a lot of potential in the future
