    The gear lever on a modern auto is only a switch lever sending signals to an ECU; all the manual work is done by solenoids and servos. So, you can't wear out the gearbox dodad thingamijig flange by holding the gear lever switch.

    I have to say. Having spent a considerable amount of my upbringing in Africa where the roads weren't so great, these are everyday cars and they make alot of sense. But in Britain, they are an odd car to own unless you need a workhorse. The running costs thanks to fuel prices aren't great whereas in Africa it's not unheard of to get diesel at just over 80p per litre if not cheaper.

    I Looked at all these and test driven them and went for the ford wildtrack myself the amount of extras and weight it can pull and carry in the flat bed type was why I went for one , their are a few downsides like you need a step ladder to get in , so no good if your a umpa lumpa 🤪👍and rubbish cup holders , I do like the amorok but was a bit to car like as opposed to workhorse but still a nice truck , 🙏🙏👍 keep safe and all the best

Would something like adding Redex Diesel system cleaner in each regular diesel fill up do the same job? It would be a quarter of the price.

Only downside was replacing the tyres every 20k compared to the Hilux (33k) and keeping it within the speed limit on motorways 😳

It is lousy when you need a VW dealer and the closest one is 900km each way. I have the fancy "sports bar" and it is the dumbest idea for a tray addition. I had two Amaroks, the rear seats were I’m told not very comfy. Sold the second one when diesel-gate happened and it came back from a service and the MPG had dropped considerably. The dealer plugged it in to do a software update, and I’m convinced VW retro downgraded the car to lessen the sh1t storm coming their way.

    • @mvubu6823
      @mvubu6823 Před 2 lety +2

      @@mvubu6823 Of course software factors in on any modern car. Do you have any idea how much software and computing goes into a modern engine. The ECU controls how much is injected, throttle response, power output, timing, ignition etc. Unplug the ECU on your car and see how it runs without it.

    • @freibier
      @freibier Před rokem

      @@mvubu6823 Of course software has something to do with it. Especially with the VW Diesel scandal. They had software which recognized when the car was being tested for emissions and ran the car with a different engine map (which meant less performance and fuel efficiency, but also less emissions). Later, they removed that cheat, so even in normal driving, you had less emissions and less performance/efficiency. So it could very well be that once your car went to the dealer after the emissions scandal went public, that you got your car back with worse fuel efficiency if they removed the cheat via a software update. In fact, that is exactly what was reported in German car magazines by people who had the software update done on their cars.

It is not very comfortable on the gravel roads but then again, it is not a Range Rover (mine was quite comfortable on the gravel :)). The house it was parked next too, burned to the ground, fortunately, the family got out thanks to a decent fire alarm system. Volkswagen of Dover, Kent, were the last 'people' to touch it. Apparently, the leaking fuel system was a well known fault - wow, some 'fault'.

    when my l200 pick was nearly 3yrs old it had a recall i , when sat waiting for the recall to be completed, the service manager said we notice your side steps are slightly corroded bring the truck back tomorrow
    and we will replace them F O C , unlike nic woods treatment , iv owned 3 mitsubishi`s sorry to see them pull out uk market as they all gave good service , rip cant see where a pickup especially in
    auto mode more difficult to drive than a car for instance i don`t like front wheel drive cars but they are not difficult , how hard can it be

    You need to come to the states. We have trucks for real. You’d love a GMC Sierra Denali.

    I'm looking for a prime mover for my glider tailer that can handle muddy fields but not much more. Long trips towing in comfort. Sounds perfect. Thanks

      A Skoda Superb 4x4 estate would tow a glider off muddy fields and be a much nicer vehicle. You just need the right tyres.

    Very popular in Australia. Was looking at a Ute as a replacement for my Discovery 2 but keep coming back to Land Rovers!

    9:18 Only for a pickup truck this small without a V8 and a decent trim level.
    9:40 Exactly, but a pickup isn't necessarily a commercial vehicle.

    You should keep both hands on the steering wheel . I assume you’ve never had a front tyre blowout at speed !

    Did you shift that in the end Matt?

    We have a 2016 Ford Ranger at work and I hate the thing. It is crude and uncomfortable to drive with bouncy suspension. It is hard work to load anything into the back of it because of the load floor height and limited space. It has 4 wheel drive but we have absolutely no need to go off road. The 4 wheel drive lacks a limited slip diff so it is hopeless on tarmac but we never need to go offroad anyway so all that extra hardware is essentially useless ballast. However, that problem is rather academic as the hire contract it is on, would you believe, actually forbids us from taking it off road.

    Sat in the same Amarok last weekend during a driven hunt. 14,6 L/100km.... Those are Range Rover numbers... Comfortable enough. Love the video's Mat.

    This Amorok is the only pickup truck I’d swap my 63 reg 2013 VW Touareg for. Oh! They’re not real leather seats btw, they’re pleather but still very good and comfortable. I’d gladly take one of these over any other pickup truck, Ford Ranger included. Good review Matt. 👍

      Hi. I’m really pleased with it. Had it 5 years this January coming and so far so good. If you stick to the service schedule without fail then it’s money well spent. I take it to a VW Specialist who are really good, much better than the main VW dealer and a whole lot cheaper too. I don’t like tempting fait but my Touareg hasn’t missed a beat. It’s flown through every MOT too. They can be economical in the long run if you don’t put the hammer down. I can usually get around 36/38 MPG and around 550 miles on a tank full. When I bought it it had 19000 miles on the clock and now I’ve got 54422 miles on the clock. The only thing that’s let me down is the panoramic sunroof, cost £900 to put right. No issues with DPF etc. loads of good reviews on this model, V6 R-line TDI 242BHP with great relentless power when needed.

    I used to drive with my hand on the gearstick constantly... then it snapped where it connected to the selector (was an E30 318is, so it was old, but still). Was enough of a pain in the arse that I stopped doing it
