    Dorothee Schneider had chosen the perfect track for her Gelding "Showtime FRH" at the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio. At the Individual Dressage they performed to Queen's "The Show Must Go On" and claimed the 6th place, after already winning the team gold medal a few days before.

      Anyone can sit on a horse; it’s riding that takes effort.

  • @liajulee4451

    Riding is the art of forming a bond and unity with the horse and together achieving something. Even if it's just gymnastic work, ground work or you are in the high classes. If you abuse your horses or the horse doesn't want to work with you, you aren't riding.
    In this case you really can say Dorothee is mastering the art of Dressage. As someone who has watched her ride for the past decade in competitions and seen her grow, I can say that Dorothe Schneider is one of the kind of riders that loves her horses and goes every step with them, the kind of rider, that doesn't rush for success but slowly and carefully works her way up with her horses and this s why I think she is one of the best out there!
    Dorothee Schneider und Showtime deserve every little spark of fame and success they get.

    I’ve noticed a lot of people in the comments of equestrian Olympic videos saying that this isn’t a real sport.
    I’d like to ask you why you think that. And if your answer is “ the horse does all the work” then that is absolutely not true we build muscle riding these animals and so does the horse, therefore this is a team sport the team is you and your horse. You have to have a relationship with the horse. That’s like me telling some random soccer player that soccer isn’t a sport because the ball does all the work. It’s stupid. If you don’t know anything about equestrianism then don’t assume that it’s not a sport.
    Mic drop.

      For a number of reasons. It is very expensive to go and watch a live international event at this level especially when it’s the Olympics and the World Equestrian Games. It’s much easier and cheaper to watch a live-streamed event from your tv, computer, or phone in the comfort of your home in the air conditioning. Plus, dressage isn’t very big in Rio and it’s a very long and expensive travel for people who interested . And when you are in the stands it’s very difficult to watch because you are quite a distance away and can only see from one angle. It’s so much better to watch standing right next to the arena but that’s not possible so you settle for the second best option: video. When it’s live-streamed, it is also recorded and posted on CZcams so you can watch it anytime. And each ride is filmed from several different angles and zoomed in and zoomed out at certain times and video quality is supreme so it’s much better and more practical to stay home and watch. Hope this helps, sorry for long message. Let me know if you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Happy New Year!

      A lot of dressage horses put their ears back to listen to their rider, if they use vocal commands. Sometimes it's just a subconscious thing horses do when they focus, sometimes horses have very active ears that rotate like a satellite dish, it really just depends on the horse.

      Elise RĂ©mond As I am an equestrian as well, I‘d like to ask you, what you are doing with your horses. In your opinion all horses should enjoy a wildlife at least that‘s what you said. But why do you ride horses then? Or bother them in any other way? Like you said, you‘re an equestrian, too. I honestly don‘t geht this. You can‘t blame other people for riding horses, while you aren‘t any better. And also you cannot speak for every horse. Of course there might be some, who would prefer a so called „wildlife“ but others do enjoy being ridden. Or doing some showjumping, Or groundwork, or libertywork. There are so many options... And why should horses allow us to sit on their back, if they don‘t like it? Just think about it: Horses are much stronger, faster and some cases taller than we are. If they really wouldn‘t like to be ridden, would we even have a chance? I don‘t think so. And that’s where I perfectly After with you: It‘s a gift, that we are allowed to ride them. And we should try pur best, to make it as comfortable as possible for the horse. Greetings from Germany

    If the Olympics wants to remove a sport I see a perfect candidate right here. They talk about getting rid of high action, athletic sports like boxing and wrestling, but want to keep this boring bougoisie mess.
    I am not saying that this is worthless, but what about this deserves to stay when other sports are on the chopping block? This is simply several minutes of rhythmic trotting in circles; yes there is grace and skill on display, but this is so niche that one must be an enthusiast to find this entertaining in the slightest. There are no fireworks, no wildly athletic feats, nothing that makes someone (once again I am sure it is different for students of this discipline, but as an average viewer) go 'wow'

    • @nataliasilverdaughter4197
      @nataliasilverdaughter4197 Pƙed 5 lety +53

      I understand this reasoning, but allow me to present this argument from the other side. I believe that equestrianism is one of the most dangerous sports there is (though I'm not saying that there aren't other sports that are equally as dangerous). Equestrianism is entrusting your life to an animal who at any time could decide that they don't want to do what they're currently doing. It's different from other sports because you're working with a teammate who doesn't speak your language. While dressage can seem boring, there's more to the sport. Like showjumping. You're hurdling over fences that are taller than you to beat a certain time on the clock. Cross country is another. It's a really thrilling sport that can seem boring from a viewer who hasn't experienced it. While things like wrestling is just what it is, showing raw strength against another human. Equestrianism is showing your strength through a partnership. Again, I in no way mean to say that your argument is invalid, I just thought I'd put in the other side of the argument. :)

      Sport: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
      Equestrianism is a perfect example of a sport. Showing your skill and strength through a partnership with an animal who could easily refuse to do what it's doing. It looks very simple as a viewer, but underneath all the elegance is years of training. It's much harder than it looks, they make it look so easy because they practice for so long. Dressage is very intricate, despite it seeming like the rider is sitting there. :)
