You made a couple comments that lead me to recommend a couple things I carry full-time.
Your comment about wanting to try a flashlight with great throw, but that isn’t EDC-friendly prompts me to recommend the Lumintop GT Nano. Incredibly pocket-friendly, even with the 10440 extension tube. 300m of throw, and the body is the same size as my RovyVon Aurora A5…
…Which is my other recommendation. The glow-in-the-dark body is very impressive: I leave it attached to a light fixture (magnets!) while I’m getting ready for bed. The glow lasts long enough to make it easy to find the light on my nightstand all night.

CRKT really has the "mini fixed blade" niche nailed down with the Folts Minimalist line! Nebo isnt known as a great flashlight company but i like the design, and thats a good price!

I wanted a rambler a while ago but I then liked the thought of extra backup flashlights, so I looked into the Lite series, to which I see the Signature Lite is $27 on Amazon right now. Flashlight, pen, small blade, scissors, nail file / small flathead / Philips (?) combo screwdriver. Or, for flight (and hospital?) friendly multitool, get Swiss Card Light and take the blade out. 🤔 Cool video here, I love going shopping with the content creators. I wish more would do it for videos. 👍☺️ For blade, I'm still going with Roxon KS2 elite (blade has D2 steel, big scissors, etc.) and maybe a QSP penguin in brass handle. I love brass (antibacterial / antimicrobial, if it's raw, not coated).
I have a heavy duty steel carabiner (I think from "EDC Fans" on Amazon) with glass breaker tungsten tip, a few wrench slots, flathead, Philips, etc. on it, but I also love my brass so I have a couple of brass carabiners to hold my key wallet from. Glass breaker always good if you have go rescue someone from a burning car. 😁 I have the tungsten tip on a few other items (pens). Just never know when you'll be in that situation.🤔
This was a well stocked location. Better than the ones here in AZ.

Thank you. I've tried to do this before but never actually completed it. But I didn't have a whole lot of options while we were out there this weekend.
Good choice with the CRKT cleaver. I went for the S.P.E.W. but the entire minimalist line seems pretty great to me. The bowie is going to be one of my next knives. I've used mine in the woods, the garage and the kitchen and it's always done well. It's so light that I hardly ever notice it around my neck.
This is very interesting! I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Every time i went to reply i had to go look up the SPEW and then I would get sidetracked.
I like the idea behind these knives. The CRKT page for the SPEW talks a little about the designer, which I found very interesting. I particularly found this line intriguing: "he cares deeply about helping folks learn about knives as tools" - obviously I have a lot I could learn, but that is where I feel like I'm at in terms of perspective. Sometimes I wonder why a Swiss army knife has to have a knife on it. And the answer is in what you said: You use your knife in the woods, the garage, and the kitchen. It is literally one of the most useful tools, but because it has some risk to it - and some bad public perception - we get limited on them. But still, I would like to have a Swiss army knife. That had no knife then. I would carry a separate knife at home

I like the flat Nobo flashlight. 🔦 looks like it would carry nicely in the pocket. Great in store footage. Looks like they have a great selection of knives!
I actually really like the flashlight too. I'm hoping that it's just that it needs to chargedon a low power charger and maybe I can still make it work with my setup - but it's so flat! I feel like it's so good for a kit especially because it looks like you could take off the pocket clip.
Their knife selection was awesome. I wish there was somebody working there because I would have played with like 10 of them. That's one of my regrets about where I live - that there's no store where I can try out EDC gear and so I end up buying a lot of stuff that I wouldn't have bought if I could have just touched it.

We have several different CRKT Knives. The clever is in the food prep kit.
The ratchet is very useful & you can use standard drill tips which will reduce the profile for tighter spaces. The carabema was really nice & I really like the second spring gate. I have to agree about the charging cable on the flashlight.
For the water bottle I still use my old US Army canteen with the cup on the bottom for camping.
I have thermo sleve with both a belt loop & shoulder strap I slip a regular water bottle in for EDC usage.
All in all your choices & review of the items was fantastic as always.

Your canteen set up sounds amazing. I have become more and more a fan of carrying water with me, because it's really hard for me to stay hydrated if I don't, and I hate the taste of water at some of these places.
I can't believe you have the same knife. It is really popular, but I don't think the steel's probably very good, but it looks like it will be easy to sharpen them.
I do look forward to using the ratchet... I might start carrying a few bits with me to enhance its utility.... I guess I'm a little concerned that the bits will just pop out of the back when I'm applying pressure I guess my thumb should go in there to prevent that...

Not sure how far you are into West Virginia but Skyline Drive on the Appalachian Trail is one of those "Almost Heaven" places...
The steel on the CRKT's have good edge retention & are pretty easy to field sharpen.

At about 7:00 - that flashlight probably charges like a lot of other USB-C stuff. Lots of the new chargers either dont negotiate 5v without an extra charging circuit, which lots of devices dont have, or they fry the device at the other end.
You may be stuck with USB-C and a USB-A on the other end with multiple devices.
I see what you are saying; thank you!! I think you are right - it strikes me that that does provide an excellent marketing opportunity for lights and other gear that doesn't have that problem! Hmmm
@thevineclimber I dunno. I had a Nintendo Switch controller get fried because I tried to charge it off of one of the newer style chargers. I don't think they're as universal as they claim to be. Needing something in a 5v electronic piece in order to communicate back which voltage it uses is just wrong. The extra chip makes sense for all of the other voltages those chargers can handle.
My best solution so far is a power bank that can charge my phone at different voltages, can be charged by any USB-C plug, but easily charges small electronics. I've got a few different flashlights that prefer being charged off of the power bank to anything other than a 5v only wall plug.

Wow pretty good selection! I love being able to see things in person, even if you're not going to buy it there. It can help give you an idea of the size and if it's for you, then can decide to buy it from Amazon or wherever. I really like that Nebo light. Although not sure what's up with the charging like you said.
I use that same size g-series clip as my main system for my keys and I love it!
Wuben G2 is similar to that Nebo, charges with a proper usb-c cord.

Anyway, I liked the knife and the reasoning for getting it, being less “pokey”, lol. Makes sense if you just need to open packages, cut things, etc.
I wish Sportsman’s Warehouse was in Texas I have to wait until we visit my daughter in Idaho to go to one. That my be good though, it keeps me from buying to many toys I don’t need.
Is the "Doohicky series" an official line of products by Nite Ize? I hope so. 😊 I like the way you edited the video in non-chronological order. I felt like I was watching the EDC version of Momento.
As for the USB-C cable charging thing: In short: this could be down to the pinning they used for their cable and their light.
With USB-C they could use pins for power delivery that are used for data transmission in other USB-C cables.
That way the flashlight would not get "enough" power delivered by a different cable (using only the pins that are usually used for power) and thus not charge.
If you have a lot of time, there's a video by Adam Savage (one of the Mythbusters guys) about x-raying USB-C cables of different pricepoints and manufacturers and seeing how they used things differently inside the connectors and cables:

They are hit and miss when ordering on-line and sometimes firearms orders are difficult.

I have to admit, I rarely get to shop in brick and mortar stores for things like this. I was able to find several items cheaper than on Amazon, but some specialty retailers online may have better prices, I found later. In particular, I found the CRKT Minimalist Cleaver for the same price on Walmart.com.
Where do you like to go to find good deals on EDC gear?
