Mandala Rose Works ULTRAFLAT MAGBED! We're installing this just so we can get the Mandala Kinematics system installed too! This is not overly tricky - but the instructions are very limited! Step-by-step on the parts for this install and how I determined the placement of the mounts!
Scrub and Purge Bucket - By Rama!
github.com/Ramalama2/Voron-2-...
FYI - Lots of great mods here, including a few used in this build!
The bed was ~32mm from the front of the front excursion. This is a good starting point.
From the center of the front brace, ~280mm to the front of the rear kinematic mounts.
YOU MAY HAVE TO MAKE 1-3mm adjustments based on your printer. These numbers will get you close and allow for you to use the 79mm bed pan by RAMA on the V2.4R2 300mm. Because the fame and the bed grow in tandem, this number should be really close for the 350 version as well!
As it is made by RAMA the Wago mounts are for all connections including a fan for the Nevermore - I will be using the extra power connectors on the Wago mounts for the Ground of my bed, you'll see that in an upcoming video!

I'm starting to source my 2.4. I decided to order Kinematics Bed Mandala Ultraflat Magbed. Its $$$ but I think it will be worth it in the long run. 350mm go big or go home!
I'm not 100% sold on the Kinematics (yet) - time will tell. As for the Ultraflat Magbed, it's seriously nice. I would consider doing Magbeds on all my printers moving forward. The larger the bed the more important both the Kinematics and Ultraflat become. Out of all the upgrades, these rate quite high with me, there are a lot less helpful items you could add!
@@BuildItBasement I’m kinda new to the 3D printing world. Is this the only magbed out there? It makes a lot of sense.
@@F1v30h1 As far as I am aware - There are many companies that make machined beds, but this is the only one I know of with the installed magnets. The biggest thing to note is that the 3M sheets that most people use are not flat, so adding a not-so-flat surface to a flat one doesn't make much sense. All the being said, most modern printers have the ability to do bed meshing and other things to compensate for small imperfections.
@@BuildItBasement thanks for the replies!
@@F1v30h1 No worries - I reply to everyone! If I can. If you need anything else please let me know!
I just realized this is the one video I missed…I had started watching it at some point, and got side tracked. Now I know what a kinematic bed is. Lol.
Liked the video.
Better late than never!
Did you have to poke a hole in the bed heater for the front mount? Great video. Super informative! thanks for sharing!
I did not. I do recall having to slightly enlarge the cutout areas.
Thanks for doing the video on the kinematic kit. I just found this video. Very nicely done. Sorry you were having issues aligning the mounts. Aligning of the mounts is actually a lot easier than what you went thru.
All you do is leave the magnets out and leave the mounts loose, then set the bed on the mounts (the threaded balls will sit into the hole for mounting ).
You align the the bed by measuring one side of the bed to the side of the printer, Make it equal front and back. Set the bed to the proper distance from the front of the printer, and recheck the measurement on the sides of the bed. Then lift the bed off, and tighten down the chamfered magnet mount, and the pin mount. Then put the magnets in.
After that, adjust your front mount, aka Kinematic Center Brace, and tighten that down. Takes just a few minutes, and you don't have to use squares and rulers. This method might not have made it into the instruction sheet, but it has been discussed on our channel on the Voron discord quite a bit.
Hope that helps anyone reading the comments.
Thank you for making a great product and for the best machining I've seen in the 3D printer world. You are absolutely correct on the alignment. I have since done some tuning and have found a 3 2 1 process worked best for me. Very similar to your note here. I'll be putting the same setup on the 2.4 rebuild series starting in a few weeks and will give the process a little more instruction. Only about 5% of the viewers test the comments, even fewer read comments that aren't theirs. If you recall you and I spoke via FB a couple of months ago about outriggers. I'm happy to agree with you that this specific build did not need them. Thanks for the comment and an awesome series of products.
@@BuildItBasement No problem man! Nice to see it all come together.
@@mandalaroseworks BTW I realized a few days ago that I have NEVER done a bed mesh on this thing... Mic drop and bow to you MRW! Crazy.
@@BuildItBasement Nice!!!
Thanks for your video! Yup, I just ordered the same Kinematic mount. However, I will have to mod my existing bed, which will be fun drilling and theeading it. Already upgraded my Voron with titanium backers, and I haven't even wired it up yet! Getting there gradually though, and your videos are certainly helping with the build! Cheers :)
RCC - Thanks for watching. Now I have to wonder about your name here... Are we talking commodore, odyssey or Tandy?! The bed mod shouldn't be too bad, just a few holes to drill.
@BuildItBasement Morning, I just got up :) erm, I'm a bit of a collector and hobbyist. 87 computers and 48 consoles are hidden all over the house. So, yep to all three and a few more besides! I love 3d printing, too, built one about 10 years ago from scratch. Great for restoring retro computers and repairing things around the house. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic video. My MRW 350 mag bed just arrived today, after lusting for one for nearly two years. Back then, it was just the bed, but then the kinematic mounts came out. Then the centre brace... And the wings. lol. And because I'm a sucker for that beautiful machining, I bought a second centre brace, because it just makes sense with the wings.
I would love to see your take on the addition of wings, and all of the considerstions for things like bed fans/Nevermore.
The machining is really awesome on all the MRW stuff... Really, I have never seen anything quite as nice. You hit on a good point with the Nevermore - take a look at this:github.com/nevermore3d/StealthMax
@@BuildItBasement yes, while I did appreciate the boxy appearance of the original Max, the StealthMax is immediately better if it doesn't want to warp itself off the bed and into the next dimension whilst being printed. One day I'll have an operational printer big enough for such shenanigans, but for now it's just me and my V0.1.
I specifically asked about the bed fans because '*The* Filter' has options for a twin fan module/filter under the bed, or sidecars either side of the extrusions.
Great video.
We're all here to learn from others and teach when we can. Hope I can provide some help when you do your Voron build over on The First Layer channel!
@@BuildItBasement I am sure I will be reaching out.
Awesome series, been a big help and inspiration while building my V2.4.
Doing mine 99% the same as your ultimate build. Just a different color scheme, 350 and Revo
thought you might be interested in the Mandala Rose Works - Voron Wings Outrigger Set
Just ordered mine, for no other reason than it look damn cool
Hey Johnny - I'm aware of the outriggers and I had a conversation with Mandala a couple of weeks ago, we discussed use and a few other things and I decided to wait. I was assured that the 300 and 350 probably don't need them, under normal situations - however, 250 did need them. So for the time being I'm holding off. I did think about other ways to accomplish the same results using either additional extrusions. You'll have to let me know how things work out, I've been really impressed with the quality of parts from MRW.
@@BuildItBasement I've only done a couple of prints (without the outriggers), but completely agree. there is no issue running tap with the MRW kinematic mounts mounted on the extrusions. I've had zero problems on a 350. will let you know if the outriggers make a noticeable difference.... even if its only aesthetic 😄
Same her, been super impressed with the MRW products
Using your camera in the stealthburner, you could using a downfacing view with a cross hair to line up the kinematic mounts.
Good point!
Great vid. Do I need to buy the heater with the bed? Looked At MRW site doesn't say anything. If not, do you have any recommendations? Also thermistor? You said thermal fuse so any recommendations on that also? I've pretty much bought all the same things you have. Your logic is sound and I agree this is an ultimate build. (My wife is going to kill me. Since I started watching your channel, its cost me a lot of money!.)
The bed DOES NOT come with a heater. If you contact KB-3D, Kris can help you out with both (suggestion) Tell him Isaid you should get free shipping! (just kidding, it'll get me in hot water when I want to buy something...) Anyways - yeah Kris is great for those beds and most of all the custom items I bought. Do shop around, you may find better prices - or at least tell your wife you shopped around!
Good video mate, please take this advice from a friend and make a script for the video and stick to it your videos quality will improve 500%. You will save time on everyone including you.
I appreciate the kind words and the advice. The videos are a secondary hobby to the printers and MANY other things. However, as I seem to be gaining traction and people seem to enjoy the videos I will strongly consider your advice and start to create outlines for the videos. I actually provided a rough outline for the next series of videos I will be doing to a possible sponsor. I 1000% agree with you and I hope that can up my production and information to the next level soon! I will note that unlike most folks I don't edit and like to make mistakes and have issues - I believe when you see a video where everything goes well, it's not usually planning - it's editing! Have a great day friend!
Great video! Nice family cameo! I bought the same bed and kinematic mount from the same place. Let me know how tap works with the kinematic bed!
Will do - I'm a little worried about the front right corner. I have been assured that it will work! I did experiment a little by dropping the gantry low enough to activate the tap - it seemed to be ok. Worse case I can always do some slight klipper macro modification to not use the extreme front right. I'm actually more excited about the ultraflat magbed. I always wondered why people where so in to bed flatness - and them throw a rippled magnetic sheet on it???
@@BuildItBasement I thought if it didn't work I would edit the locations too. I am still getting the rest of my printer dialed in but I think the ultra flat bed is going to work great.
My other 2.4 has the original Formbot bed on it and really it's been good. The only time I notice anything is with ASA on larger prints. I have to either add another ~3% extrusion or use a nice WIDE brim. I can see on the final results where there are minor changes is the height, we're probably talking about .005 or so in a few places. I know to stay away from the front left on that printer even after mesh - it can be a little sketchy.
@@BuildItBasement That video series convinced me to buy my Formbot 2.4 kit. I hope to pick up an LDO kit soon.
Nice. Nothing wrong with the Formbot kit. A lot of people hate on it, but in the end it's more about how well you put things together. I would say that she is the parts on the LDO kits are better, but it's not night and day
Do you think the crossmember could be mounted in the back leaving room for a nevermore in the front?
Yes - That is an option. I decided to mount the cross in the front - mainly because I like the way it looks. This printer MAY get a Nevermore in the form of the MAX version. It's very impressive... and quite large... github.com/nevermore3d/Nevermore_Max
SO would you recommend the ultra flat one or the megabed with the magnets? I won't be using the kinematic system initially though.
Magbed. Having an ultraflat bed and then adding a layer of 3M magnet is a waste, IMHO. Anything you add to the top of the surface needs to be as flat as what you are starting with OR you lose the benefit.
@@BuildItBasement I'll be doing the inductive probe initially and heard it's not compatible with the magnets.
@@younghillionaire That's partially true. If you setup your probing and QGL to avoid agents, you could be "OK". I have not done this - but it is my understanding. Shoot MRW a quick email via their site. They are very good at answering questions.
@@BuildItBasement Thanks
I'll do that. Anyhow
Which plate do you recommend
Heard it needs a really good one not a Chinese one otherwise it would dimple where the magnets are
Wife's currently giving birth but I'm here to be #1 comment!
Lol... Dude, umm go be with your wife!!!!
@@BuildItBasement middle of a good run! Legit she's in labor though no joke lol
Congrats! Let me know when you have a name, I'll do a name plate print in the next video or two!
@@BuildItBasement absolutely!
Congrats! Hope everything went well!
