  • One of the craziest plays I've ever heard Malagueña, had they played in 2004 would have won, because in 2003 we could not compete with BD.

I marched Madison Drumline in 88 (tenors) and I'm humble enough to give a big ass shout out to The Cadets( Garfield)'s drumline. They killed it!!! Much respect to them from " The corps if brothers" Madison Scouts- We Never Walk Alone.....

I went on to do be a drummer playing for Britney, Nick JOnas, Boy George and others. When I saw the show, I knew you would win that year. We all said it and that was us LOVING BD!!!!

Everyone comparing this to 88 Scouts, remember the context. This wasn’t the Cadets’ closer that year. It was their fun middle number. So yeah, no wonder it’s not as good or intense as 88 Scouts. It’s still a banger. :)

Also 88 Scouts was really REALLY close to the Stan Kenton big band arrangement. And that old chart kicks ass, so of course the show was great. This cadets show is a disconnected highlight reel of that classic chart.

I remember being at this performance. I remember the crowd going crazy throughout the entire performance, and each time the crowd got crazy it got louder and louder. The Corps that year was genius. I marched with s s the v back in the 70s. Its so funny how so much has changed since then. The whole Corps is now in movement almost a hundred percent of the time. Back in the old days it was unheard of.

talk about SPICY!! The Cadets version had it ALL! This arrangement brought all the elements of a blockbuster Hollywood movie and then some! It had a subtle/smooth beginning, an intense climax, and a fantastic finish that left the audience breathless and wanting more!! Can't wait to see who tries to top this version of Malaguena. :) - to quote Christopher Walken "aka Bruce Dickenson" from SNL --> "..I've gotta fever, and the only prescription, is more cowbell!" - The Kid, Cadets '79 - '84, snare drummer.

Madison has my preferred key, tempo, emotion, trumpet seniority.
Cadets have the demand, precision, ensemble balance and sound, variety (they had a few different styles mixed in to show off their dexterity) drill cleanliness and writing.
I think one can love the Madison Version but agree that the Cadet version will always score better.

While not trying to diminish how well the Cadets played this or how good the players are, the Scouts utterly destroy the song, while the Cadets just play it pretty well. Plus the rendition of the song loses parts of what made it so amazing for the Scouts. It's a nice tribute but not nearly the same level. Although this is just my opinion, and this is the internet so people will probably flame me for it.

It's very sad that this iconic drum corps isn't competing anymore,I marched in the late 70's and was teaching Bostonn in the 80s. Unfortionly the cadets were brought down by an adult who made bad decisions with members of the corps who trusted in hm.the lawsuites were too much to overcome. We almost lost our corps because of an adult's actions in 1982 but we were able to keep our corps alive with 54 members in 1983, now the boston crusaders are among the top 4 corps. I am hoping for a return of the cadets in some form for the kids who deserved much better.😢😂🎉

"bugles"have conical bores-the tubing gradually enlarges, whereas most American band brasses have cylindrical bores-makes a difference in tonal quality.
