The runner certainly needs to be close, but he doesn't have to worry about being exact. The musicians are holding the final note of the song and watching the conductor. The conductor is watching the runner. When the runner lands in their arms, the conductor gives the cut-off, signaling for the band to stop.

I was watching that show on PBS the night it was broadcast and just as the Cadets go from "the circle and the line" to the "sideways isocseles triangle" 2 minutes into their performance I lost it. The chords, the quick change from one shape to another, the guy holding the girl above his head...........I was crying so hysterically that I couldn't see the screen for the next 30 seconds. I had to walk into my bathroom to get a roll of toilet tissue to dry my eyes.

2009 was our family's introduction to drum corps. We went to Stanford to "see what this drum corps thing was all about," on the recommendation of my then 11 year old's band director. Sitting in our seats, long before any corps had taken the field, my daughter announced that one day she was going to march on that field. Four years later she was so proud to march onto that field as a member of SCVC. Later that night, I told her how happy I was for her, that she had realized her goal of marching onto that field and her response was, "I can't wait to do it in an A-Corps uniform, and she did that, 2 years later. To this day you ask her what her favorite SCV show is, and she will tell you immediately, 2009, Ballet for Martha. It started it all.

We also had the blessing and opportunity to go to a DCI regional championship held at Legion Field in 1978. I always wanted yo join Bridgemen, but no way could we afford it! I love these videos and Im so glad that people take time to post them. You learn discipline being in a marching band. Bands are so small nowadays, as kids are too fat and lazy to march in the hot sun, or think its nerdy. I will never forget it, and will always appreciate it.

As a Brit I had some idea about US marching bands and high school bands etc. I am an ex army musician but not for a long time. I am absolutely astonished by the standard of both musicianship and performance of DCI. I am hooked via you tube. All the performances I have seen have been absolutely superb with some performances topping that. Thus far from this and other channels ones that stand out for me are Phantom Reg 2008, SCV 2018 and Blue Devils 2014 also the Cadets 2011. The overall spectacle and level of entertainment is top notch. Will look forward to maybe getting to attend world champs in 2019. Well done to all DCI corps past present and future.

Maybe it's because I marched the scouts in the color guard, maybe it's because I was in New York at the time of 9/11, but the 2011 Scouts show still moves me to tears to this day. I think it's because of my seven year drum corps career. I just remember watching in the stands in San Antonio just bawling I was just so moved. Nobody should have to see or experience the loss and the fear I felt that day in New York and seeing the Scouts' show that year just somehow made me feel vindicated and at peace. I was so very proud of the Scouts that year and I will always be. Thank you so much for posting these awesome videos Joel Zapata! I take my hat off to you. You have my respect.

Seeing these great Drum Corps march brings back so many great memories from high school marching band. As an individual you play such a small part, but when everyone works together, something incredible is created. You spend so much time and effort practicing, and then when it's time to go on, you just perform. Everything else disappears, and you all become one. There's not much else like it.

Thank you so much for including Scouts 2011. Easily one of the most emotional shows and performances of all time, not even specific to drum corps. The 10-year anniversary of the nation's worst tragedy in recent history, and a show to tell its story. Not only a story of New York City's resiliency, but of the entire nation's. I guarantee you none of the performers had a single dry eye after that performance.

How in the hell did you manage to find a video from 2007 that's even more potato quality than one from 1988?
Jokes aside, thanks for the upload. This brings back many good memories. I'm an old school DCI fan, so it was a bit of a shock to me when I went to a local show a few years ago and saw that every corps had a DJ, amplification, and trombones, but I eventually made peace with it over time.
DCI had to adapt with the times. It was inevitable, I guess. It's still a bit weird to me, but you know what? All of the kids involved today are putting in just as much time, effort, and dedication as anyone who has done this before, and they are having a great time doing it! I suppose that is all that really matters.

This was Jim Ott's finest arrangement and, I believe, the 1980 horn line was Jim's finest work and a tribute to his teachings. There was (and is) nothing like the sheer emotion of the song and arrangement...nor of the raw, yet controlled, power of the horn line at the end. RIP Jim.

It was like watching an M Night Shyamalan film (lol its the best analogy i have): I had all my expectations of what Drum Corps is set up in the first 14 performances, only to be shattered open with the twisted, tilted presentation of what Drum Corps *can be* by the Bluecoats in the second to last scene. It's such an amazing genre breaking moment, especially witnessing it on the same night I had learned of DCI for the first time. They opened my eyes to the endless possibilities for storytelling on the field and opened my heart to the love of this craft. Thank you Bluecoats
