    Beautiful book. I'm beginning to realize Jung's reason for writing it. It isn't just about the transformation, but about the effect it has on the psyche. He clearly states that this transformation resides within each of us, and that we should follow our own path. He was attempting to help those who had lost their way, to get back into alignment. He revealed his own path to use as an example of what the possible challenges one might be confronted with along the way. It's understandable that you may not know what I am referring to when I speak of the transformation, but if you are reading Jung you are obviously on your way.

    I got this as a graduation present in 2010 as the publication coincided with it and it has been one of my prized possessions reading it slowly and looking at the paintings. There are not many books like this available to the public. Very good quality printing and publishing. I also was able to see the actual original copy at the library of congress in Washington DC when it was there which was a real trip in 2010.

      this is just the interpretations of one man. it's his own process of individuation. Jung proposed that everyone interested in developing their own individuation of consciousness to write their own "red book", and have that be their guide instead. this red book was just jung's personal guide.

    • @env0x
      @env0x Před rokem +1

      @@QuaesitorDei that's an interesting question. Jung is the one who defined the process of individuation, so you would be best to read his academic works on that. but be forewarned, they are DENSE, and mainly meant for an academic audience. The red book was more of a dream journal than any sort of objective empirical analysis of anything, and he never actually intended to have it published. but he has TONS of books on analytical psychology, being the founder of the field himself, full of studies built around a framework of strict empirical study and analysis.
      I wouldn't advise jumping in the deep end head-first with this stuff, as it's easy to get lost in the sauce and misinterpret things, so let me touch on where it would be best to start. His book most suitable for the layman (and in fact the only book of his written specifically for the layman) would be "Man and his Symbols", and most would say that is the best place to start with his works. The book "Memories Dreams and Reflections" is also good to start with because that's his autobiography, so it gives you some background into the man himself and his thought process.

      I just wrote a few paragraphs replying because your reply inspired me to get articulate but I deleted it instead of editing it....
      Thanks for the reply. I don't get many chances to speak to intellectual people like yourself. much less that actually make me want to engage in intellectual conversation.
      In short I've been thinking about getting a psychology degree for 10 months now but have no intentions on using the qualification professionally. But conversations like the one I would've had if I hadn't deleted my reply happen extreamly sparingly for a non professional psychologist. Infact I'm not sure if that's that's thing.
      I'm torn between getting the degree for use as a badge of entrance and studying alone and trusting I have the correct conclusions. I don't want acceptance from others on this subject but it is so hard to come too meaningful conclusions quickly alone.
      Thanks for the book recommendations I will buy them when I get off of here.

      Well, for starters it's a big beautiful red book written almost 100 years ago by a famous psychologist who went toe to toe with Freud, took a nose dive into his own unconscious psyche, and was finally proclaimed a madman by his peers. It's also a facsimile version - which means it's written in Jung's handwriting. The art is his original work too, and it's gorgeous. There seems to be big waves of interest in Jung lately; most likely because of Jordan Peterson, but I also think Jung's ideas are resonating with people again because they are actually relevant to our current situation as human beings on this planet.
