A Light History of Perennial Philosophy | Fanning the Flame

This is only meant to be a surface level overview of Perennial Philosophy. There is so much depth to the subject that I felt it necessary to take baby steps. This is step one. Not every name mentioned here is a champion of Perennialism, but they all contributed to the conversation in some way. Sorry in advance for the pronunciations. 50,000 Thoughts Per Day | Mind Vs. Self

50k thoughts per day? No thank you. What are thoughts? Where do thoughts come from? Who's thinking them? In this video I compare the two leading theories of mental activity. By contrasting the Mind-Created Theory with the Self-Created Theory I attempt to shine a light on the problem of identifying with thought, and how it might contribute to mental health. These are NOT the only theories out th...

Should humans feel guilty for acting lazy? Why are we the only animal that can't seem to relax? What separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom? Our societies push us to do more, work more, play more, create more... but is this inherently a good thing? All of these ideas and more are explored in this short video essay I've titled "The Art of Inaction", derived from an essay I wrote a whil...

I still don't understand why or how we can have any thoughts if we are completely born without senses. I know that the thought experiment assumes that we have the same level of intelligence, but what does intelligence have to work with if the mind isn't able to import any information from any outside sources? How would one know the self if they've never seen a reflection or felt any stimuli?

On the whole, I believe Jung didn't approve of the whole Eastern concept of liberation. That is why he said he had seen enough and so seeing Ramana was by no means necessary for him. India's spirituality must have disturbed the infrastructure of his mind and values so greatly that he wished he had seen less.

Lisa feldman has lectures on youtube with her theory of how the brain processes thougts and emotions. It's actually quite interesting. After researching discovering the "self", i ran into a dead end. And then one day, the question of how our brain processes emotions popped into my head. Its been ny lateest obsession. Because honestly how are we to radically accept all of ourself if some of our thoughts, beliefs and patterns dont align with our values because they were put imside of our head against our will.b

I was always chastised by my family members because they frequently found fecal matter around the toilet, and they assumed it was me (it was). I have been fingering my anal cavity for years (since I was 8) and it would often leave a goopy mess. I am now 22 and still live and play dumb about said subject. They think we have raccoons.

Is life, existence, a matter of the sequence of events? What do we mean by sequence of events? Do I know that I am alive because I remember yesterday? Do I know that I am alive because I know the way to my house? Or, do I know that I am alive because I am going to be somebody? How do I know that I am alive? It is only in the present, surely, that I know I am conscious. Is consciousness merely the result of the sequence of events? With most of us, it is. J. Krishnamurti As Bhagavan Ramana says, the sequence of events is the movie. Life-Consciousness (Sat-Chit) is the screen.

Thank you so much for the share. There are endless passages that should be used to guide us... I began with Modern man in search... I found it awesome, but my awe was inspired by his Red Book. When I read it I could not put it down. II proceeded to listen a second time. I loved many of his insights, his love for Nietzsche resonates, as I found a wonderful guide to the self in Jung's favorite book from within his Liber Novus: The Imitation of Christ. Very much a guide to following the Uber path, if you will ;)

The full text of "The Holy Men of India", vol. 11 collected works, shows that Jung did not believe Ramana was what he claimed, a fully awakened being frees of the "I thought". In this same text, he explains that he did not bother to go see Ramana, and he would not if he had the chance again, because the Eastern idea of enlightenment is both not suited for Europeans, and also not possible for humans. Maybe he understood Ramana, but he did not agree with him. He advocated a new spiritual ideal suitable for Europeans, expanding the ego with archetypes from the subconscious rather than letting go of it. Also, see Richard Noll's "The Aryan Christ".

I had a cool dream last year in which i met the fisher king. although i realised only in retrospect. It was an old boss of mine played the role of fisher king, ... he was a very accomplished michelin star chef, and an excellent boss. Very professional, high standards and a very fair and considerate person. In the dream, it was christmas morning and i met him in cosy, rustic living room with rugs and stone walls and there was a fire burning in a hearth. My boss was sitting in a chair by the fire with a blanket over his lap and it seemed he had bad legs or found it difficult to walk. He had been cooking breakfast for people ... frying trout in a skillet on the fire. We were pleased to see eachother ... like a "Hey! How are you i havn't seen you in ages!". - Feelings of warmth and kindness. I asked him what was wrong with his legs, although i don't recall a reply, ... and that was basically the dream. I had talked about the dream with a couple of people but it was at least a couple of weeks later i suddenly realised ... it was the fisher king.

This story is about the subversion of the divine feminine, and what it will take to restore her dignity. The masculine needs the balance if the feminine, and visa versa. It is ultimately the story of the brain, and societies subversion of the bodily left, which is the mentally right, meaning the dominance of righthandedness. To be fully developed humans, we must be as able with our left as we are with our right. Truely ambidextrous. Amen.

I think the biggest fear is the fear of non-existance. Experiences reproduce the separation of experiencer (ego) and the experienced, so we keep craving experiences to not come face to face with that fear of non-existance. In the past it seems like I already came to some sort of realisation but was too fightened to let it go through, even though I already saw enough to know the ego to be constructed. I kind of realise now that keeping this game of the ego up is actually what is extremely exhausting, it always demands to be fed. At first one has to let go of what one takes to be important, it feels terrible but is actually freeing. Back then I really felt that the only sane thing is to simply sit in silence.
