- So all I can say about this one is it closed before WW1.
This is one of if not the best Iron mine remains I have ever explored in the north east.
Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous especially mines and caves.Please avoid them at all cause.Stay out,stay alive! I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, I seek out permission. Those are some holes straight to Hell. Reminds me of the time I walked out on a piece of plywood that was only partially covering an exposed shaft in the fields across from the one middle school here.
I went to take another step and there was no ground under my foot. That was the first, and last, time I went bushwhacking. I just stuck to the trails after that.
Get Phil and come back with the needed gear! Nice find, You have your work cut out for you coming back to this find.
I def will get down to that cut and do some looking around.Just have to be super careful.These pitches are spooky especially when cover with all that leaf litter.I also got blasted in the face with H2s after I dropped a rock lol.

Oh hell yeah! Definitely need to rope down into some of those. Its awesome how similar but different the iron is compared to the coal.

The coal is similar but only at the ends of the vein and top of mountain where it goes vertical. The iron is almost always vertical, never saw a flat ore body.

It would be really cool to walk along the bottom of that cut and explore all the holes down there. Who knows what's down there. I did smell H2S really bad after I threw that rock down that shaft blasted me in the face.

Bring a digital detector though for H2S

Congratulations on this find. I know how much you love your iron finds...pretty damn epic. That building at the end was the icing on the cake for me. Absolutely stunning. That little hole you said that may have been a window, might be for seating a beam of wood I'm thinking? You going to go down? Bring some rope. You need to get in and see wtf is going on in there. 🙂

the best hiking boots i ever had, and still have, are the waterproof sketchers outdoor hikin shoes bro. i got em in wides too and i dont get blisters anymore with hobbit feet lol. and they actually have kept my socks dry through some decent tests too
