    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on CZcams!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

I like the way you take time to check out some of the old artifacts down these mines (however small). Alot of explorers seem to forget that these mines were hand dug, blasted and drilled by people in tough danderous conditions and without the human story there would be no mine!

Love your channel. Both of my grandpa's were miners, they started mining about 100 yrs ago. When i was a kid I had many conversations about mining, and heard plenty of stories. It's nice seeing all the timbering and such, a verbal description to a child doesn't translate to reality very well. The details in your video's brings all the stories back to life. They were coal miners and some things are different from hard rock but the terms, timbering and such aren't. Thank you.

This channel is one of many different channels. The difference is I feel educated after watching this one. Gly always takes time to explain the do’s and don’t s the what’s and why’s. And he makes sure to show us the amazing artifacts left behind. That’s what makes this channel the best mine exploration channel on YT. I’ve never really thought much of the geology of Mother Earth until I started watching Gly and frank take matters to a whole new level. Thank you both for these amazing videos that journey into the center of the earth. You guys rock ! Literally. Lol.

Really enjoying the extended geological information format and additional contextual components. It’s also nice to see that your growing in Frank-like boldness to get into some of those tighter, awkward, foreboding or sketchy areas of this mine. Thorny pack rat stickers and all. Yikes!
Sometimes when you first use your laser pointer I think I’m seeing some sort of man made cave dwelling fireflies ostensibly presumed to be extinct.

“Gly”: Thanks! When I started this channel I was pretty much filming everything solo and that puts allot of limitations on what you can and can’t do safely. Having a second person with me be it Frank or my new camera person really opens a bunch of new doors. A common misconception about me is that it took Frank to spur me forward into more risky situations when actually, I was exploring mines like he does going all the way back to the 80’s. I just didn’t have a camera with me back then and it’s a good thing I didn’t because my mother would have killed me. Lol. And, I didn’t weigh 210Lbs back then either. What I wouldn’t give to be back in my 20’s again with a 4K camera.

I've got it pretty much running 24/7. Just doing a little bit to support my favorite CZcams channel. Hey Gly, is there any way that you can get a screen shot of that Miners Cat that you and Frank videotaped sitting on that stole looking back down at you with those big ole eyes? That is what I'd really like to see on a mug if you could. That would make a much better photo on a mug than the generic photo of the miners cat that is available now. Just wondering if it's possible. That is the mug I want to purchase, and I think others would jump on that one as well. The way it's sitting on that stole with it's tail visible on the one end, and then it's face turned down looking back at you is an awesome sight.

I'm a little undecided here. I like the second person doing the camera work since it really helps puts everything into scale and perspective as far as angles and steepness ... and they are doing a great job.
But ... for a person exploring a mine vicariously through your videos, I truly prefer the first person camera work from your earlier videos. That point of view gives a far greater sense of being there, which makes the viewing experience that much better.

“Gly”: I’m going to be doing a little of both depending on the layout of the mine. This mine has lots of timbering so having me in front of the camera offers perspective. Other areas like where I found the pack rat nest was good for a FPS shot like I did. I want to stay away from 100% FPS because it gives allot of people vertigo when watching a 30 minute video. You do seem to be quite knowledgeable about the geology inside these mines. Could you possibly take the occasional 3-4 seconds and explain not just what kind of rock we are looking, but why that rock was important to the miners originally? Thank you very much for your time and attention in these questions.

With the geological knowledge that you have, can you tell me how does one identify the different metals based upon sight? • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces

"Gly": Rocks and minerals are easily identifiable by sight such as quartz, limonite, sulfides, etc. Once identified a sample will be collected for assay and that assay will determine the percentage of metals in the sample. Another interesting episode! Can you explain what an air door is for?

    • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  Před 4 lety

“Gly”: Mines are breezy because of the barometric pressure differential between the lower part of the mountain and the higher part of the mountain. Also, a mountain can act as a airplanes wing with lower air pressure on the downwind side of the mountain. Because of all this air moves through mines and can be used to funnel dust away from an area being worked via opening or closing air doors in different parts of the mine. It was cheaper at times than using equipment to force air into a mine with a fan of sorts.

My grandfather got me into exploring mining ghost towns, abandoned mine, and Indian caves at an early age. He passed on when I was 8 years old. I went into his garage and picked out a small "good luck charm" that I carried in my right hand pants pocket. In my mid 20's I was backpacking with a friend who had been in the Army. He saw me fingering my good luck charm and asked to see it. He scraped one end of it and some powder came out. He tasted it then throw my good luck charm in the camp fire... and ran. I didn't know why but when he ran, so did I. There was an explosion and the camp fire was thrown in all directions. It turns out that the good luck charm I had carried in my pants pockets for about 25 years was a blasting cap.
