- The first FPV flight of the Reptile S800 SkyShadow wing from Banggood.
The supplied ESC, motor and FPV transmitter all failed (lots of mid-air smoke) during an early line of sight flight of the plane so I replaced it with the stuff listed below and now it is a very nice wing. It should be noted that the DVR used to record the FPV footage was actually sitting on the ground and there were no dropouts visible via the actual video goggles.
If Banggood upped the spec of the accessories supplied as part of the PNP model they'd have a real winner - in the meantime, if you want to run 4S and have lots of fun, it might be better to buy the ARF version and fit your own electronics.
As flown in this video, the configuration is:
- S800 SkyShadow wing from Banggood
- FrSky D4RII receiver
- RC Timer 30A miniquad ESC
- SunnySky 2207/2100KV motor
- 200mW FPV transmitter
- Pagoda 5.8GHz FPV antenna
- Multistar 4S 1400mAH 40C battery
- Runcam Eagle 16:9 FPV camera

Ignore the complaints about the music. You've got the spirit! FPV and tunes go together!
Elf Kind I'd rather the music over "shhhshshhshshshshshsshhshshhhshshshshshsh h h h hchchhshhshschchchchchch" *wind noise*
Video editing is boring, takes a shitload of time and doesn't pay for shit.... throwing some tunes in can be fun. ESPECIALLY, if ya think it syncs well, despite your critics. LOL
I can't believe it's just for 42.99 dollars

wow Bruce that runcam has excellent colour,I just keep breaking my cameras
Bruce, that's some of the best video you've ever shot....also liked the music!
Awesome Vid, flight, soundtrack! Gonna go run a marathon and listen to this about 30 times!
Great video, info and music on this impressive beast! Thanks Bruce
Good job Bruce! Liked the music which is rare for me!
Rich.
i can hear your new meds are kicking in nicely ;) nice flight too
Great stuff bruce wonderfull to see you flying. In my horrible scotish winter minus six today. chilly no fly day.😃
Great video! I've finally understood where the nice sound of the 4 stroke motocross engines (I can always listen in the background of your videos), come from :-)
Liked the craft. Looks stealth! Hope you have gotten your wings back!
as always I enjoyed the video. I noticed the tunes as well. an could take it or leave it. I don't worry, I have a volume control. Am looking forward to getting mine in the sky. thanks again.
Nice to see a fpv view of Tokoroa!
Looks like a nice set up. Really like the Run Cam quality. The music was an added bonus, volume control for the ones that can't take it. Some days I can tolerate it and others I choose silence. Just wish my neighbors had a mute button !
WOW good on you pal! I remember back in the day you saying music was to much hassle
That off road track in the distance is superb, you need 1/8 or better 1/5 scale RC car :)
Just maiden mine a couple of days ago, they fly great. The CG at 130mm worked better for me, a little less tail wag but being a light wing it will still get knocked around a bit by light wind.
Flies well/was flown well and the FPV was good in both quality and range.
Gets a bit of a shift on too
Nice vid !
Looks like it's a fun flyer. Love your videos and liked your music choices. ;-)
I've been wondering a lot about FPV though and wondering why people don't (in general) seem to use micro DVRs backing their FPV cameras on their R/C vehicles. I'd expect that something like a 6 gram HMDVR-HD would provide pretty decent results from something like the RunCam Eagle 16:9 your using here and be way lighter than a GoPro or clone. Of course the quality wouldn't be as good since FPV cameras are hard to find in even 720p. Even though security cameras often go as high as 5 MP and 1080p is common now and that's what FPV cameras usually (always?) are. Would love your thoughts on this Bruce.
Hi Bruce! Nice video. Can you comment on what contributes to the flight smoothness of a wing or any other model? Is it mostly weather, control link stiffness, pilot, etc? Thanks.
Howdy Bruce, stunning. That Eagle did fantastically well in that bright sunshine. Oh how I miss the summer!!! Daft question, would you like my stash of copyright free tunes? Matt
Nice review as usual Bruce, is the stabilisation provided by a flight control board because it looks like you need Betaflight with a lower P setting?
Hi Bruce. I know you said it was windy, was you flying with the stabiliser switched on? Looked a bit bouncy in the footage. I've got issues with mine. The Elevons were warped (quality control issues) & I think the wings might be too. Going to play around a bit more, just to make sure that its not a balance issue with more weight in one wing, but I need a LOT of Aileron Trim on one side. I'll try adding weight on the other wing first to see if that helps. I did weight the wings down while the Carbon was glued in to help straighten the Wings & Ailerons (not sure if it worked with the wings?) but the Ailerons don't look too bad now.
As i say, I'll have play around, I'm sure I can get it somewhere near, but it does track pretty well despite the the large amount of trim needed!
Bruce , Nice flight. Question. What type of wire extension is use from the VTX to the outer wing antenna?
I wonder how well suited this is to having differential drag in the vertical stabilizers for yaw control and speed brakes?
What a wonderful place. Airstrip, go-kart track and a moto cross track ? Where is this paradise ?
It's in Tokoroa New Zealand... but sadly, it's all pretty much "look but don't use it" as a result of our local town council.
Shame.
Beauty within beauty.
Nice Bruce how far do you get out of the Fr-Sky system? you did a great job on the wing
you would have thought that all that bouncing around was due to those worn out fingers (Parkinson) old bean .
love it keep up the good work .
It was *very* turbulent (lots of heat rolling off that runway and surrounds) but it wasn't as noticeable on the FPV camera as on the HD recording.
loved the music!!
try a fixed wing prop like APC 6x4 or 4.75 square pylon racing. the twist on the quad props is optimized for low inflow speed i.e. it's good for hover and not efficient at high speed.
Hi, I'm a big fan of your videos!
At the second 20 of your video you talk about a flight controler but you didn't gave a link of it in the description.
Could you give me a link or the name of it please? :)
Thanks a lot and keep up with your amasing instructives videos .
mouck Moumouck , the ARF version includes flight controller as well. It's a simple flight controller that comes with the wing itself.
But if you buy the ARF ,you don't get the FC,an like you said,It smooths out the pitch an yaw....Thanks Bruce for all you do...
Hi Bruce,What's the Camera next to the Runcam Eagle??looks like it fits well in there.
You should have bought the Kit. Build as you like.. I love My S800 Reptile .
Is there any objections on using a pusher type propeller like the ones used on the AXN Floater Jet?
I have a 5040, 5050 and a 6040.
Power from a 3 or 4s through a 30a (blue) Turnigy ESC and an Emax 2205 Red bottom.
Thanks
loved the music
Hi Bruce, is it ok to use a blheli miniquad ESC like a Littlebee sring 35A on the S800 or any fixed wing? And will i need to change the firmware or just settings?
Hey Bruce what do you use for a receiver for the dvr,,looks real nice not much glitching at all.
Lack of glitching would be the Pagoda antenna he mentions at the end- they really are that good! ;)
What are your rates and expo for the wing also do you have any reflex
hi Bruce! I have a few problems balancing the s800. have nothing on any of the wing and all of the time tilt to the right. I did set it up a switch with "low rates with expo"(60%rate,25 expo), any advice.
P.S: no fc or stabiliser.
thanks
Jesus Galicia I know you posted this problem about 2 months back. If the problem is still persisting,
1) check if the plane is balanced from one wing tip to other (not CG balance)
2) motor torque can sometimes give a roll on one side. Try lower KV motor with larger prop.
Where could we get one of those pagoda antennas?
Is that slight tail wag normal on a small wing?
My FT Sparrow does it and I thought it was something to do with my build or setup.
Stambo yes a wing tends to wag a little. If it does it a lot it may be tail heavy. My mini arrow is pretty stable. You may want to add a bit of nose weight and see if it helps.
Can these wings yaw at all or do you have to roll and pitch to make turns all the time?
Bank and yank mate. :-)
Could I fit 5200mah 3s if it would which esc and motor could work
Id be interested in know how in the world the ESC, Motor, and FPV transmitter all smoked. That sounds suspicious to me.
What stabilizer you use? Any link?
extacy
Hey OM, didn't know you were into trance :) Do some house too 73
have you ever found fpv goggles that fit over your glasses
Bruce, what about 3S? Did you try?
Yes, 3S is like 4S on 2/3 throttle.
Could you fit a 2200 3s?
I see a steady updown nose "pumping". This can´t be explained only by thermals. It´s while flying fast and slow. If this was my wing, I´d be pretty upset by that behavior. I´ve built simple kfm-wings in the past, even smaller than this one, that did not have that shaky style, even in wind. What stabilization? I can´t see any...
two words: SOLAH POWAH
Where was the best CG at?
Bull nose draws more current???
WHY??
You may have covered this in one of your many videos...
A bullnose would have more surface area than a non bullnose prop, so I could see it producing more thrust and current draw. Unfortunately, more power is less flight time if efficiency were the same. The power setup and prop on this wing vary depending on how you want it to fly.
Why does a bullnose prop draw more current?
Henry Maddocks more prop area, square ends creates dirty air which reduces efficiency etc
yea, nobody wants that dirty air
I haven't seen a single smooth S800 video yet. They're all way too bouncy: more bouncy than my Tek Sumo was. I hope that Reptile company produce a larger version of this wing that'll hopefully cope better in turbulence and at high speed.
Yeah, there's a lot of bounce -- I think some of that is due to t he design of the front of the craft and perhaps the (surprisingly high) amount of reflex it seems to need. I may try experimenting with the CG.
flight time?
I can just hum or whistle if a need sound.
Great music (5.35 mins )
strangest wind noise...
I sort of liked the music😕
Hey give us OLD guys a break, we like our Industrial, and House music, I mean you can only listen to so much 70s Rock and Roll.
because who needs tails?
Way too much jiggle to the video. Is it you or the plane? I got a headache.
Both :)

Turn the damn music down just a little I try to watch these video's when my wife is sleeping the volume is set so I can here what you say then the music starts blasting loud. ps: PLEASE
Don't know what I missed cause I skipped the musical part... makes me cringe.
I started tacking drugs and dancing..
Me too! :)
Try the volume control, it helps heaps with "bad" music. :-)
The music style was not expected from this channel. But I thought it was funny and still enjoyed the video. Reminded me of 80's tv like knight rider. LoL
You skipped it? A mute button is much more effective...
just more suckey banggood crap....
Stick to your day job Bruce, music is not your thing lol
