    The biggest problem when you need to change tire or tube is breaking tire bead.
    Especially when you use tubeless tires. I was trying couple of methods, in internet you can find a lot of fancy and expensive tools. At the end I found probably the cheapest and the best method.
    It is also a lightweight method, so you can change tire anywhere without carrying much stuff with you, when travelling. You will need only c clamp and piece of wood - here you can see how to use it.
    You can chose clamp size according to your tire width.

    I put the c clamp on the outside and break both beads at the same time. I also weld a nut on the c clamp so i can use my air ratchet to close the c clamp real fast. Bam! Done!

      you're just lucky that worked (both at once). Most tires one side gives way, then that's it.

      Hi! I saw a lot of "adventure" devices for breaking tire bread - from store and DIY. But you need a lot of $ or some metalworking tools.
      This one one is super simple, cheap ... and it works! It could be only a little lighter :)

    Getting myself set up to be independent when hitting the trails, I’m going to adopt the method you have shown, thanks. I just couldn’t see where you put that piece of tube of cut, was it under the piece of the G clamp that was pressed against the tire wall or to protect the inside of the rim?

    • @DawidMartasMotoAdventures
      @DawidMartasMotoAdventures  Před 4 lety +2

      I used it to protect the edge of the rim. Clamp may slip and the screw may hit and damage the rim. Good luck and ride safe! :)

      If you do a lot of trails go tube type. Can break the bead with no mor than kickstand and the tube can be patched with lightweight 3$ bicycle tube repair kit

    hello guy !!! good idea to break the tire bead with a clam. I thing you have a africa twin . I've got also a africa twin and i would like to know the dimension of your clam or do you have a reference. I can see plenty of clam on internet but i cannot see the mesurement in the width and also the quality. The cost start from 5 euros to 200 euros.
    Could you tell me the price you paid and the exact mesurement and the weight or the internet site you bought it ? thank you very much

      @DawidMartasMotoAdventures  Před 5 lety +1

      I'm using C-clamp, 5 inch (or 12,5cm). It weighs 0,67 kg. My clamp was cheapest one, it was about 5 Eur :D
      This one is produced by Vorel, product number is 38433. Look for something similar :)

  • @BillySBC
    @BillySBC Před rokem +2

    I think I would get a piece of 1/4" thick by 3" long steel and grind the inner section to a c-shape and place that over the bead and against the rim and then crank the c-clamp down on that. This would avoid damaging the bead with the small push point of the c-clamp by spreading the pressure out over 3 inches. Nice job.

      Hi!
      Yes, Metzeler Karoo 3 is tubeless tyre and it is harder to break the bead than in tube type tyre.

  • @geraldscott4302
    @geraldscott4302 Před 2 lety +1

    I do it this way. Works fine at home. But carrying that big heavy C clamp and a piece of wood along with all the other stuff you need to fix a flat tire out in the middle of nowhere, like tools to remove the wheels, tools to remove the tire from the wheel, new tubes, and a compressor to reinflate the tire can be hard to carry on a 250 size dual sport. Tubeless tires (real tubeless tires and wheels, like BMW uses on the big GS, would completely solve the problem.

    • @DawidMartasMotoAdventures
      @DawidMartasMotoAdventures  Před 3 lety +4

      You should use better c-clamp next time :)

    • @dpavlovsky
      @dpavlovsky Před 3 lety +2

      @@DawidMartasMotoAdventures For sure. I did end up getting a better C-Clamp, but I can't get this Shinko on my rear rim. Idk what it is. Maybe it's too cold here, making the rubber stiff. In all these CZcams videos, it looks like these tires are made of butter, just sliding almost effortlessly onto the rim. Blah.

    • @DawidMartasMotoAdventures
      @DawidMartasMotoAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      I had similar problem. Tire mounting paste helps a lot (and it is much easier to break bead next time).
      Leaving a tire to direct sun should help too. One time I pumped a tire to 5 bar to mount in properly on the rim.
      Keep in mind that the tubeless tires are harder to mount than the tube type.

  • @silvinoligeralde8916
    @silvinoligeralde8916 Před 3 lety +1

    I did that but i used another block of wood on the other side to protect the rubber. I also kept putting soapy water while the rubber tire started peeling off the wheel. Indeed, it was easiest and the cheapest method to break the bead. The 8 inch c-clamp costs less than 6 dollars from Harbor Freight.

    • @DawidMartasMotoAdventures
      @DawidMartasMotoAdventures  Před 3 lety

      During assembly you can use tire mounting paste. Next time it will be much easier to brake tire bead.
      C-Clams is also useful tool in garage :D

    why not use a piece of wood top and bottom ?

    • @DawidMartasMotoAdventures
      @DawidMartasMotoAdventures  Před 4 lety +3

      Clamp generates some force.
      Force applied to small surface makes big pressure (clamp screw end). Same force applied to big surface makes small pressure (piece of wood).
      So thanks to using this piece of wood I can push tire at the top more effectively :D

    Why not break the bead with the “C” around the tire instead of through the rim!? 🧐

    • @chrisparsons3141
      @chrisparsons3141 Před rokem +1

      If you have a large enough c clamp width and depth then it will fit around the tire. This allows the use of a small c clamp.

  • @PeterM0911
    @PeterM0911 Před 3 lety

    It's not a bad idea, but it overcomplicate things. If you got a tyrelever already, just shove it under the bead at give a good smash on it with a hammer. Easy as that, tyre is off.
