The Sovereign Sword - Darksword Armory Sword Review, test cutting, light torture testing

- We review another great medieval sword from Dark Sword Armory. Their Sovereign Sword is an arming sword with an ornate cross guard and pommel. It cuts well as a two or one handed sword and held up to the abuse we put it through. We found that smaller statured students liked the sword and used it like a longsword with two hands quite frequently. It's definitely an "old money" looking sword with enough elegance to look like it is still used for fighting and not just status.

Nice review man. I'm not a huge sword nerd but you made me want a sword.
I'm very happy that the review had that effect on you. If you Halen to buy one, please comment on what you get!
Dude I want that sword it’s beautiful also please post more I just found your channel and I need more lol
Our Sword academy just obtained our first building so we're renovating and getting it ready right now but as soon as it's done, we are going to be making a lot of videos. We have tons of swords and training weapons to showcase. I think you'll love it.
I have recently gotten a Vindaaris from DSA. This particular one appears to be the only sword they have that comes with its own style of scabbard and belt due to its unique blade shape. The belt system was given to me for free without me even ordering it, so whether they were being generous or simply negligent in an actually good way on that, I am appreciative nonetheless. The belt system is also of a completely different style and color from the usual as well.
That said, on your Sovereign, I'm wondering if they accidentally grabbed a scabbard meant for another sword in a rush to pack it up and get it to you.
historical longswords differed a lot on the details of the designs since they were used by people of different social statuses
Agreed
Thanks! Great review. I would also say that the belt system was falling out of fashion by the end of the 13th and into early 14th century, and was replaced by a variety of suspension systems. Both of these swords look inline with early to mid 15th century type swords and so that belt system would not be used at that time. However I agree that the quality of the materials and care of construction is quite high for a mid level sword and scabbard combo. The Ronin Katana scabbards for their European swords are much lower in quality.
Thank you so much for that insight! I'm learning a lot more about the sheaths and scabbards and belt systems and their different time frames as I review more swords. That's awesome to know. One of my students has a ronin katana type 1 long sword and I would have to agree. The quality of scabbard is way lower
Nice review man, been looking at this exact sword for the past couple of days seems to be a relatively new sword to the darksword lineup. The scabbard being that much bigger than the sword is a bit of a deal breaker though IMO.
I have a feeling that the only reason the scabbard came so long was because it was a free sample that they sent to me for a review. I haven't seen any other cases of it happening so I would assume it's safe to buy. It's a really nice blade And we just cut with it again last night and it did really well.
@@ludusferocia8696 that's what I would assume as well.
On top of this one been really looking at the eindride sword they have, the fold steel one preferably. Just looks so clean!
Hey man, I personally own this sword (bought 2 years ago) and the scabbard came well fitted. It is looser now but only became so after a year of being taken out of the scabbard multiple times daily and being stored in a fluctuating temperature and humidity environment.
@@codeofclaw nice man! How did you find it?
@@Z33risH I was looking hard for a bastard sword on the lighter end that had a special look to it. The sovereign fit perfectly, I’m a sucker for bronze hilts. Probably the best option for its type in this price range aside from a Albion squire line, but those are rather plain looks wise.
Ok but how sharp is it _really_ if you can run your fingers along the blade edge?
I agree as personally I would 100% consider that a bastard sword.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks so

I'll ask them !
