The most unbelievable part of this movie is the fact the IRS never came after David. Young man with seemingly no job and yet is strapped with cash and has a fancy penthouse apartment along with so many luxurious possessions is gonna get a lot of heat.
If never deposited any or never made a transaction that required an ID he could have just been invisible to them. No job, no income tax, no property no property tax, no mortgage, there not really many surveilled transaction hed be making if he just stuck to cash and never signed a lease or anything

It's frustrating when abilities like this are depicted in movies alongside a "secret society" that knows about the abilities. To make a more believable story, the ability should either be genuinely new and never-before-seen, with intelligence agencies rapidly learning about the ability and figuring out its weaknesses, or it should be part of historical fact and everyone should know about it. Otherwise it really breaks the suspension of disbelief for me.

But then she went out of her way at the US embassy to save him, and give him a heads up on more paladins coming. And now once there’s no more threat, she decides it’s her job to go and hunt him down since there’s no one else to do it. Director had an opportunity to turn it around and have the villain join the hero, have the mother reunite with her son, but they just completely void logic and fuck that over.

To those feeling so sorry for his dad losing his family: The first two times son teleported were instinctive. His did it first when it was afraid for his due to drowning. The second time, he was afraid for his life due to his father.
You know what's funny is that the script would have been so much better if Griffin was the main villain and Roland was just a freaking obstacle.
It would be best if Griffin was the protagonist..

Funny you say that. It was the original plot for this movie... the studio just butchered it. If Griffin was the villain and Roland was just a supporting character who became somewhat of an anti-hero in the end to help David. The plot would have been so much better.

It really did. This and movies like Push or Chronicle had some serious potential to become somthing big and yet they become one hitter quitters. I guess its because Hollywood would rather do comic book movies, remake/reboots, or sequels to movies that nobody asked for.
The movie is loosely based on the first of a series of four books (Jumper, Reflex, Impulse, Exo), which are much better. No Griffin, no Paladin nonsense. If you want to see the concept developed to its potential, then Exo will do that quite nicely.

And the "Mom of the year" award goes to this woman. She basically left the kid for dead, not warning about the Paladins. Just because it's the movie, the things turned out as they did, otherwise it would end up with his clueless ass caught off-guard and get killed by paladins.

if this fight's been going on since the dark ages, how didn't the paladins get instantly wiped out during that time where technology sucked? why does the public not know about jumpers and paladins? how do they not know?
That vault security is top-notch, no wonder they were confused as to how the robbery took place. i mean, it's not like you just have it open in the day, near a public bathroom, separated from it with a wall made of iron bars. Also, it's such a brilliant idea to not have heat sensors or cameras or any security measures inside the vault, and that you just have stacks of money lying in the open in the vault, the security is just so amazing. Also, all the names of everyone who entered the building? Simply perfection. if I were a criminal, i'd definitely go in the building in broad daylight, while the vault is open and people are inside and outside of it, giving the staff my real id in the process.

yep, there's no way anyone would have found out that some kid was buying stuff in new york using only cash, and purchasing an apartment and probably getting a bank account which was subsequently filled using cash which was not checked at all, doing taxes, if not, then he'd probably have been arrested already, etc, during several years. and the investigation was probably being checked out by paladins. makes complete sense david got into no trouble at all.
yeah, that jumper definitely wouldn't have teleported anywhere that wasn't the jungle, and surely not fast or far enough for roland to not keep up. yup.
David's father definitely couldn't have possibly ever broken through that door. It's not like he'd check that room because his son kept appearing and disappearing from it.
griffin is a good example of someone who can use their brain. too bad he doesn't just teleport the paladins into a volcano that he visited or the bottom of the ocean or the peak of mount everest or the middle of the sahara or amazon rainforest or a vat of acid or... ok whatever, the point is griffin is pretty good at this, and he's nice, too.
how'd they find out david went into the colosseum though? probably just left out by recap though.
if paladins can reopen jump scars, why can't they do more? prevent jumps using a forcefield-like device? let themselves jump while technically not violating their code because they can't do it on a whim; they need to set up a machine, or make a beacon that forces jumpers to jump to it, and kill them?
griffin couldn't defeat david, who's been sitting around doing random stuff while griffin was fighting the paladins? really? and why is david fighting griffin, anyways? just teleport to millie, instantly teleport back while leaving the bomb with the paladins, and have griffin fill his entire base with water, and rig several explosions to go off on a timer, spaced out. before the bombs start to go off, the three go to another room, closing the door behind them, preferably locking it, then teleporting away so roland can't get to that jumpscar they create. If roland stays at the house, he gets blown up, if he jumps through the jumpscar made by david, then he gets his innards obliterated because explosions in water does that. Bam, they won without having to kill griffin, without risking anything with the paladins where david gets shot instantly. Also he could've gotten stabbed or shot after getting stuck with multiple cables, but the paladins decide to just stand there while he spams teleport.

I’ve heard of this movie when I was a kid, saw some reviews saying it wasn’t very good. While the premise seems interesting, you can tell the execution was subpar just by this summary. Perhaps this concept could be revisited some time in the future.

There are 4 books about this universe, the first two star David and the last 2 are about his daughter. Millie gains the ability to teleport to as a result of constantly being teleported by David.
A TV show was made called Impulse which is kind of an alternative retelling of his daughter's story.
Griffin basically the MVP throughout the movie. I knew I liked him, he was so familiar I remembered, he played Edgar in Snowpiercer.
I remember when I used to watch this movie once a week on my PSP when I was a teen. Such different times 😭
