As soon as they got an excuse and someone else to blame they made the changes they wanted. They can just pass the buck and sadly it seems a lot of people seem to think GW didn't want these changes completely forgetting their previous attempts. I've said it before, a company with such a niche audience CANNOT afford to piss off their customer base. GW is not Disney. They'll fold faster than a house made of sugar in a hurricane.
If wizards of the coast is any indication, GW will go under eventually but it'll take quite a while because of how long people were giving them money before they shot themselves in the foot.
What will happen is Blackrock will swoop in with bailout money for them. Thus buying more control of GW.

I work as mechanic for CAT heavy mining equipment.
I usually speak to the machines that arrive at the workshop when it's my turn to work on them.
A few days ago while working on one of them I tried to work faster by mounting complete modules instead of assembling them piece by piece, then a piece of metal punched through my protective clothing over my forearm. After removing the piece, I continued working. When I was done, I pulled my sleeve up and saw the bleeding wasn't stopping, so I went to the company's doctor but he wasn't available. So went back to my post grabbing my arm, to reduce the bleeding. Then an old mechanic saw me and asked what was the matter; after explaining my injury and showing the blood, he said "wait a moment" and went to his tool case, he returned with a synthetic towel for oil leaks and some duct tape, he proceeded to wrap it around the wound. The bleeding stopped. Then he said " In cases of absolute emergency we fix hydraulic hoses like this, if the oil pressure is not too high or the leak is not to big". Then he told me I should be more careful and went back to his tasks. I was amazed, he patch me up as if I was one of the machines we fix. While continuing my job I spoke to the giant dump truck that stabbed me, and said: "Forgive my insolence spirit of the machine, I shall perform the repairs as the ritual commands."

HOWEVER, given that GW has already decided insulting their customers is more important than maintaining the lore, I believe this represents the tip of an iceberg into which they are running at full steam. It is easy to see examples of IPs that went similar routes and were deeply damaged, arguably destroyed, because they were helmed by ideologically compromised fucktards who thought character and story were defined by what's between a character's legs rather than who they are or what they do, and furthermore that the correct response to any and all criticism was simply to shout "ist" words. I already quit 40k because of model prices and rules churn, so I'm just sitting back with some popcorn to see if the unsinkable GeeDubs ends up on the Atlantic floor.

All a female Custodian/SM would do is change the look of the character it doesn’t have any real effect due to the gene therapy, engineering, and indoctrination they are put through. You want representation WELL THEN LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THE IMPERIAL GAURD. FOR THEY HOLD THE LINE!

Not all retcons are created equal. I'd argue the Primarchs, The Heresy and the Necron changes (along with the additions of Tau and Votann, yes I know they were squats before) only added to the world building. I'd argue I wish most of the events of the Heresy stayed a mystery. But the Custodes change is literally just for ESG points, it's purely political pandering to stakeholders and Twitter. Otherwise they'd actually put their money down on making a plastic kit for them. Because GW is a mini company first and foremost, and they want to put things out that sell. But GW is also a slow and dumb company. 40k will live on beyond GW

I’ve been playing Warhammer 40,000 since the 80s and have given untold thousands to Games Workshop over the years. But I have already canceled my Warhammer+ subscription, and, although I’ll probably still play some of their video games, I will not buy them new and pay full price anymore. I will wait until they are heavily discounted on Steam. I won’t buy any more of their minis, I’ll just 3-D print them. I won’t buy any more books, I’ll just get a hold of PDF copies for free. If GW goes bankrupt so be it, but I won’t let them spit in my face and tell me it’s raining. I encourage my fellow old school fans to do the same.

Yeah this a straw that broke the camel’s back moment. The prices on miniatures and rulebooks alone is a major turnoff. I’m just thankful the only time GW ever got my money was when I bought the Dawn of War collection on steam 6 or 7 years ago.
