Just a personal note on cap jams on the 1860 Army. When cocking after a shot, point the firearm straight up and pull the hammer back as it reduces the chance the expended cap will fall in the action because it falls and bounces off your hand. I seldom have cap jams using this procedure.
Thank you, I wish I could find Remington Caps. They only kind I’ve been able to find in the past 4 or 5 years are CCI. I look all the time at local gun shops and box stores. I appreciate you watching the video.
I saw your video on my new purchase, my pistols are arriving Dec. 19. 2023. Exactly the same as yours looking forward to testing their capabilities' downrange.. I like your video..
You are probably already know this, but I'll put it out there anyways, if you start at the top of the Texas star it will swing less which makes it easier to clear That is an excellent addition to the arsenal
Big thumbs up buddy! Like I told you, my Pietta 1860 Army came in the other day, haven't shot it yet, but the feel in my hands and the looks of it has already moved me to thinking she's gonna be my favorite. I ordered 4 sets of those Slix shots and put them on 4 revolvers. Everything went great until I got to the Dragoon! I had 2 nipples that would not budge!! I heated it up in the oven trying to expand the metal with no luck..put it in my cross vise and FINALLY broke them loose! What a pain lol. Hey, thanks for posting this video I sure enjoyed watching. Take care ~John
Thanks, sorry you had Sita hard time removing them. I started using anti seize on all of mine just to me safe. You won’t be disappointed with the Slixshots. I can’t believe the difference they make. (They don’t sponsor me, I have purchased plenty from them).
Nice shooting! That’s my favorite piece for shooting cap and ball but I prefer to shoot .45 colt 200 grain cowboy loads with my drop in Howell conversion cylinder in my Uberti 1858 new model army revolver
Great video! I’m ashamed to tell everyone that I’ve had my 1860 Army for about 3 years or better and I have never shot it! I love traditional bows and I love the black powder era. Nostalgia I guess. I always thought I would use a Kirst? Conversion on it because I couldn’t get any black powder around that time when the “pandemic” happened. 🤦♂ Anyhoo, I’m not up to speed at all on powder types, where to get supplies, and what was that conversion thing you did with the cap area of the cylinder? The internet has become so AI dominated that every site I go to is just advertising and you can’t hardly read the sentences they are so convoluted. I’m back on a mission now to use it as a black powder (smokeless?) pistol and want to know your thoughts or others thoughts on the pros and cons of shooting black powder regularly. New subscriber here and thanks to anyone who has a great book to recommend or website or just some good old fashioned information! Thanks 🙏
I know what you mean about Ai and searching for things on the internet. It’s certainly gotten crazy. The Slix Shot nipples aren’t necessary. You just need to make sure the caps you use fit properly. Caps are currently hard to find, but searching your local gun shops, Walmart, or sporting goods. You should be able to find some. Number 11’s should fit. Regarding powder, I prefer true black powder to Pyrodex. People say it’s hard to clean, but hot soap and water works great and is very easy. My biggest worry is my wife getting mad at me washing them in the kitchen sink. Make sure you get a proper fitting round ball or conical. The proper size for the 1860 should be .450 or .457, but check your manual to be sure. I have an entire playlist dedicated to black powder and a video that goes into more depth than this one. If you think of any other questions, let me know and I’ll do my best to help.
I have a Cimarron Colt Walker that is Co Texas Ranger marked to go along with my 1860. They both were built my a master. They are the most accurate firearms I own-even more accurate than my S&W 686. Great video 😁
I bet that Texas Ranger Walker is nice! I’ve got a regular Uberti Walker and it is so much fun to shoot. If you’re interested I have videos posted shooting it and also Dragoons.
Sorry to hear. No I have not experienced a loose wedge. Has yours been shot a lot? I have heard of the brass frames stretching with lots of use. My first cap & ball is a CVA Sherrifs Model. I got it in the mid 80’s and shot it a bunch but have never had an issue with it.
Beautiful gun and great shooting skills! I noticed that you re-position the gun in your hand after each shot. I try to avoid this and move as little as possible in between shots to increase both accuracy and speed.
I am trying to get back to shooting without repositioning my hand. I actually cut off a good portion of my thumb about a year prior to filming this video. My “thumb stub” as I call what’s left has been extremely sensitive. As time passes, it’s getting somewhat better. It will always be a challenge to cock the hammer on a single action though because it’s so much shorter. I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment.
The Colts are beautifully finished. Certainly to a higher degree than the Uberti. For me I want to shoot them, so the Uberti’s and Pietta’s work out great. I would say, if you’re wanting a show piece, go with the Colt. If you’re wanting a shooter, the Colt would be wonderful, in my opinion why spend the extra money. From what I’ve seen you could get 2 or 3 Uberti’s for the same money as the Colt. I hope this is helpful to you.
No the hammer is not overly hard to pull back. What you’re probably noticing is due to me having cut my thumb off in a log splitter accidentally. It is very sensitive and I’ve almost had to teach myself how to grip handguns again. Shooting has been a challenge since the accident for sure. Thanks for watching, let me know if you have any other questions.
I bought an Uberti 1860 Army about a year ago and still haven't shot it... Just from cycling the action I came across the issue of the cylinder not staying in battery while at full cock. (it spins freely like at the half cock position) Literally just started happening to me as I was watching this video! Anyone else have this issue?
It sounds to me like the Trigger/Bolt Spring has broken. If broken the bolt won’t move into the cylinder stops. It is an easy fix and relatively inexpensive part. I have a video posted about tuning a Cap & Ball Revolver that might be helpful to you. I hope you get it fixed and out to the range.
@@chickensandwich1589 it does happen on occasion from cycling the action. It doesn’t seam to matter what brand the revolver is either. I always keep a few on hand and try to not cycle the action even though it’s quite enjoyable.

To be safer, turn the revolver upside down or sideways pointed downrange to accomplish the same thing with less risk.
Probably one of the most beautiful revolvers there are.
Yea I agree the lines of the 1860 Army are just perfect. With the fluted cylinder they almost irresistible. Thanks so much for watching.
oOoooh yes!
Excellent! Five Star Demonstration! Beautiful Revolver! Clear Crisp Film! Great Job!
Thanks you so much that is sincerely appreciated! 🙂
I love the slow motion showing the awesome muzzle flash. Love the 1860 Army. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it, I have a recent video posted of more slow motion.
I love them old revolvers. I collect them and they are a ton of fun to shoot
#10 Remington caps , seated firmly with a small dowel should eliminate cap jams! Beautiful pistol

I have this Uberti too. I was drawn to the fluted cylinder. These are too much fun
I agree and love the fluted cylinder too! Thanks for watching.’
I love the fluted cylinder, beautiful revolver.
Thanks, I love the fluted cylinder too. It just looks so elegant. I appreciate you watching.
That is a beautiful black powder revolver, I swear I'm going to end up buying one yet. You've given me the black powder bug! LOL

That is a fine looking revolver. Can we hope that a stock is on the way and you'll be shooting like Angel Eyes?
I haven’t thought much on getting a stock, but maybe I should.
Angel eyes had an 1858 rem. Col. mortimer had an 1873 SAA longer bbl 10"(?) With a stock.😃
Awesome… did you have any problem with loose wedge? My sits all the way in, but it’s still loose and the barrel wobbles

Not to my knowledge. Try Dixie Gun Works in Tennessee USA.

What powder and how much powder
I use real 3f black powder my typical load is .25 grains. But be sure to go by what the manufacturer recommends for your particular firearm.
