Love these clips - about to troubleshoot my victa and this has helped heaps
Good on ya mate. Thanks for this vid, it saved me a lot of swearing.
On reassembly, be careful not to damage the crankcase 'O' ring. Remember to always disconnect the spark plug first when working on any motor as there is still fuel in the carby that could momentarily cause the motor to 'Kick' or 'Fire'.
Thanks a heap for your video..just could not get this victor piston out
but your help was immeasurable.
Rather than purchase a custom tool, I cut down an old 21 mm socket, which
with a cutting disc...Hallelujah.. got the piston out :)
Glad the video helped! Getting the piston out is usually the most difficult part.
As it's Victas have a cast iron head/sleeve it can be honed or bored if need be, unlike a lot of newer engines.
Excellent!
I gained a lot from your video. Thank you and God bless you.
Neat old mower
Thank you. This was helpful.
I've yet to see a victa yet that needed rings or any internals for that matter. I blew a head gasket once other than that their only flaw is the plastic carby.
Found a good 50 lawn mower parts.
victas have compression release chamber so it will always appear low with a compression gauge.
In our experience a correctly functioning decompressor makes little difference to the final reading, this is because as the piston moves towards T.D.C the decompressor closes momentarily allowing peak Pressure in the combustion chamber. for peace of mind you can always plug the decompressor hole with a spark plug to double check a reading.
If the bore is badly scored, the new piston will just be knackered after a couple of hours useage, along with the new rings. The fact the head gasket was missing, just tells you someone was messing to fix it before.
Luke J I rebuilt one for work experience in high school, did a week at a mower repair / sales place... piston, rings and carbie refurbs
I was given a little bottle of squirty oil and a little bore honing tool and drill to use... had to clean the bore out and leave a cross hatch pattern for new rings to bed into
They sell these tools on eBay for about $15AU delivered
Seafoam and a little helper.
40 psi is good
Questions for you. I need to do a tear down on my old corvette 500 as the bottom seal is leaking air, I thought while I have the crank shaft out I might as well fit a new piston and rings. Unsure of what size replacement piston to get, standard or one of the oversizes. I don't have a bore guage either but do have digital caliper which would allow me to measure just inside the bore. Any advice on this? Also are there different sized rings for the oversized piston and will they need the gap checked?
Thanks for the video's. I have about a dozen Powertorques (without frames) I have salvaged from hard rubbish over the years, but my parents have told me they want them gone from their house. I was going to give them a quick compression test to decide which to keep - what would be a good figure??
Hi mate
Above 80 psi is a decent reading, between 60 and 80psi some victa engines will still run but perfomance is reduced.
Shoudn't you disconnect the spark plug before you take off the cover?
You are right for a precaution but it may not contain any gasoline
cant find parts for these, gotta panther, fss201k wtf is wrong with the victa website
Thanks for calling them "locking pliers", but it's "kPa", NOT "psi". :-)
i cant for the life of me get that crank pin out, even with a 1 meter long breaker bar
They can be extremely difficult at times, using a rattle gun is effective, or you could try tapping it with a hammer to provide some vibration. heating with a blowtorch may also help loosen the pin.
You are a funny guy.
