Thanks, this is a great idea. Sometimes I can get the factory supplied kill switched to work after replacing the rubber parts and other times I have a lot of trouble with them. So I have tried your idea here out a few times. I like to use 12v garden light wires from Bunnings, they are double wires stuck together, and I run them up the mower handle under the air duct and zip tie them there. I am still thinking about whether I can make some kind of switch behind the throttle control lever on the air cleaner. For now I just have two wires to hold together by hand when I want to stop the engine. I have a question though, on some old mowers I noticed the black wire was bent at right angles and (the pin) was inserted through from the top rather than from the bottom. Not thinking, I straightened the wire and put it back in from the bottom like it is supposed to be and then had a lot of trouble. Either the mower would refuse to start, or it would start and fail to shut down. After much head scratching and pondering it has occurred to me to put a slight bend in the pin to try to bring it close or further from the other pin that goes into the carby to make sure it will be close enough to make contact when it is supposed to. If it's the other way around and making contact when it's not wanted, simply rotate the pin to adjust the gap. This will be easier if the pin is inserted from the top instead of from the bottom like it normally is. And then if we were to bend the wire at a right-angle we can see to judge how we are adjusting the rotation of the pin by imagining a clock face. Do you think this could be a secret hack by experienced mower mechanics that I didn't understand and have now worked out or do you think I'm full of b.s. ? I'm going to try this out when I get time but I am also wondering what other people think.

Great video, just one more tip, wear thick gardening gloves once you get the pull start off. The metal is very sharp at the bottom. Yes, I learnt the hard way.

Re. those tabs that hold the pulley wheel loosely in place. If all intact, there should be 4 tabs. Only ever use 2, bent down opposite each other. Leave the other two unbent for spares as these tabs WILL eventually break off, depending on how often the pull cord or spring needs attention over the years. Good idea to try to look to check there are two holding the pulley in place, and if not, hold the pulley in place with fingers through the case gaps when lifting the case off the engine… otherwise… big twang as that spring flies unwound. I learnt the hard way. Story of my life… 😂😂

Great vid but unfortunately unhelpful for mine my mower is similar but it only has the on governor spring not the 2 and it dosnt have that flap thing on the flywheel but still a great video clear and informative

You cannot reliably test an ignition coil this way. Many coils are okay when cold but fail to deliver spark once hot I have seen this many times on 2 stroke engines.

That's not how you do it. you fold the exposed wire back over the insulated wire and crimp the connector trapping the exposed wire between the wire body and connector.

I went to other videos and they all said the same thing. Turn the wheel half a dozen times, hold it there with a screwdriver, thread the rope in then let the wheel go and it will roll up the rope. Not for me! My wheel turned a hundred times and never got tight. Then. I found YOU! You said to manually roll up the rope, reinstall the mechanism and, sure enough, it worked! Thank you so much!

Tip, before refitting the boss to the shaft again, smear some lanolin grease to shaft where boss fits, will be easier to remove when the time comes again to remove.

Excellent video. My spring clip keeps jumping out of its position. I solved the problem by keeping constant pressure on the clip as I tightened it.

I looked at my old one to compare.. metal end is rusty which is why I'm replacing it.
