*Update- The part about calculating the cells resistance using the impedance transformation of the VIC is incorrect but the resistance of the cells are still the same.

did you ever tried deionising water using combined ion exchange resin filter?

No I haven't. I did collect rain water though and it does have a higher resistance than local tap.
