Hello viewers and subscribers! One big update related to Thinkific that I wanted to post - in April 2021 Thinkific made a change to their Free plan and it will now include 1 course instead of 3.

Thinkific’s free plan is awful. It won’t even let you try out all of the features. AND, the only assessment tool they offer is a simple multiple choice. To get the advanced exam features, you have to pay another $1,000 give or take a year to a third party. I like the unlimited courses and students, but I wish it was as easy to use as Talent LMS - for those of us that want to create quality courses with optional tinkering instead of a lot of set up time. And Kajabi, they have limits on the number of products for a high dollar plan does not make sense.

Some crucial key points that I'm not seeing anyone talking about is the actual video player & file size allowances! Thinkific max file size is 2gb, Kajabi is 4gb, both support 4K.
I have been researching into alternatives since Teachable screwed me by changing their video player which now only support 1080p instead of 4K. When I messaged their support they weren't even aware of it! 4K is critical for my source because I share charts with fine lines & details that look weird in 1080p

Luke - this is a very specific, but very useful point! While it's probably not an issue for most of my audience, I'm really glad you dropped the comment here for the people who this may impact.

Hi Judy! I received your other comment re: funnels and freebies but CZcams is being REALLY weird and not showing me all my comments SOOOO I thought I'd answer you here.
      1. Funnel Building - when I was using them, neither Kajabi or Thinkific had anything as sophisticated as Clickfunnels. BUT you are able to build landing pages for your courses and both platforms had the ability to add upsells when someone purchases.
      2. Payment portals - both process online payments using Stripe.
      3. Thinkific (and Kajabi, I believe) do not take commissions BUT Stripe does.

Great video, especially for two aspects of how you presented the differences:
    1. When it was close vs a clear win
    2. When a particular choice was related to the person's abilities/preferences
That level of nuance is rarely offered in typical comparison videos, thank you!
One note: the 30-day trial on Kajabi seems to be an 'affiliate perk', as a way to encourage people to use a current Kajabi creator's affiliate link ("You get the extension to a 30-day trial, I get affiliate payments if you stay after the trial."

    • @TricycleCreative
      @TricycleCreative  Pƙed 2 lety +1

Thanks for the compliments on my video! And, yes, to be clear, the links are affiliate links. I have no issue being transparent about that - if this video presents value/info to viewers to try out either Kajabi or Thinkific, that's a good thing. In the event they end up purchasing, I do receive a small reward that helps to support this channel.

    • @TricycleCreative
      @TricycleCreative  Pƙed 3 lety +3

There are definitely different schools of thought on this. Yes, Thinkific provides you some pretty good website building tools BUT my preference would be have a website in addition to Thinkific. By creating your website on a platform that specializes in website building, you'll probably more tools available to you to build your site, host other content (e.g. podcast, books, etc), and have more control over look and feel.
I've helped clients with websites using Wix, Squarespace, Wordpress.com (they host it), and Wordpress.org (self-hosted). I can tell you that more often than not, I recommend Wix. Their site building tools are so much easier to use than Squarespace and you have a lot more control and options. The only good thing about thinkific is that it's good for starters. Cost-free no charges but the same time you can't do much on their free trial. However, why would someone need to flash down money if they aren't aware how to sell it? So, in my opinion it's kinda good place to try out but that's about it.

Brenda, unfortunately, if you move from one platform to another you have to start all over again and rebuild your courses. In Thinkific, you can import your students from a .CSV file and, I think, you can do the same in Kajabi (but you might want to check their support forum first)

Very well-structured and detailed video, Ross
For these two platforms, we have something to make them even better, and would love to hear your feedback.
Can I invite you to a 15-min Zoom chat, if so what email should I use?

I am just starting an online business and I am new at all of this. If I wanted to have a website with a blog, as well as videos..if I go with Thinkific, I would not be able to have a blog. I also would like to sell ebooks. Would you recommend having a separate website, and then a link to take people to my Thinkific page to see the courses?

Hiya! If you're just getting started and want to start creative blog content, I wouldn't recommend starting with Thinkific or Kajabi. There are cheaper website options (e.g. Wordpress, Squarespace, Wix) that can help you get a foundational website created for your product/service/brand. If you'll be creating videos, you can add them to your web pages and/or build blog posts around them on that site.
if you're looking to sell ebooks you'll probably be able to incorporate that into your website through e-commerce tools that Wordpress, Squarespace, and Wix provide out of the box. That is not to say they will be the BEST or most sophisticated but they should be able to collect payments and help with fulfillment (delivering the ebook). There are specialized sites for selling books that you may want to look into if you start to create a lot of ebooks or generate a ton of sales (let's hope that happens for you!).
If you also plan to do online courses, then certainly consider my points in this video. One other thing you can do with Thinkific and Kajabi is create a library of docs for a Membership program. So if you intend on building a comprehensive "program" (i.e. course, ebook, etc) then you could create your website and lean on Thinkific and Kajabi to help with member management and fulfillment.
      *Does all that make sense?*

Thinkific doesn't appear to have an app, but their course player is fully mobile responsive. Here's an article with more details: support.thinkific.com/hc/en-us/articles/360033680933

Pay someone to set everything up for you if you're not a 'tinkerer'. Find them on Fiverr or something like it. ;-)

The primary question I have is: What option looks the best?
The 2nd question is: What is most easy to use for the actual customer?
If I'm not mistaken, does Kajabi appear much sleeker than any of the others?

I think they are both pretty much tied when it comes to appearance for the customer/student BUT if I had to give a _slight_ edge, I would give it to Kajabi.

Kajabi and a lot of other SAS products give 14 and 30-day trials which is just not enough.! Let's put another!
You need to give like a 90-day trial so the people can see if it's going to work for them it's not rocket science folks. Any company that extends it to 90 days will explode their sales!

I want to be fully transparent here. I'm JUST getting into using the community feature of Thinkific (and I didn't use it in Kajabi). BUT, both do have pretty comparable Community features from what I can tell. IMHO, you may have to really build a community on a platform where your audience already is and where they are active (e.g. Facebook Group). Both platforms provide the ability to do rev share. In Kajabi, it's called "Affiliates" and in Thinkific it's called "Revenue Partners" if you want to check out the details on their respective support pages.

Basically, they are not giving you enough time to see what everything is in the system. People need at least 45 days to look and see how to even look and get familiar with a system .

@@AlchemistaAcademy Got it. So, Thinkific's "email integration" is just that - it allows you to connect to an existing, external ESP (such as Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, etc). Thinkific does not have (as of the time of this comment) their own email system. I hope this helps!
