When it comes to running an online business, Kajabi is my jam. I've been on the platform since 2014 and with it, I've been able to grow two seven figure businesses. But not everyone loves Kajabi. Even thought that pains my Kajabi evangelist heart, I have made peace with that fact. I continue to promote Kajabi because I've seen it do its magic and I wholeheartedly believe it is the best online business platform out there. Today you're going to see two opposite views go head to head.
Tara Wagner, a fellow business coach, made a video about why she's leaving Kajabi, after having been on the platform for several years. I thought this was very interesting, since it is rare that I hear about someone who went all in on Kajabi and then decided to leave. So sit back and enjoy this live, unfiltered reaction video of my Kajabi heart breaking minute by minute. All jokes aside, Tara raises some good points on the weaker spots of Kajabi, but ultimately I completely disagree and explain why in this video.
    Hope you enjoy!

Hey Graham! Thanks for the reaction and I love your thoughts. It sounds like we agree on quite a few things, but most importantly that NOTHING is 100% perfect for any user. I DO wish you'd included the second half of my video though, where I go into what I'm using now (and show what they offer that Kajabi doesn't - especially the gamification portion and the automations ActiveCampaign offers) - that would answer at least half your questions about my critiques. ;) Fist bump to another Big Leap lover though! 👊🏻 xo, Tara (uh, not pronounced Tera lol)

I went all in with Kajabi (with your link) nearly a year ago and to begin with it was a HUGE learning curve. I went from not understanding it to understanding how to do certain things to now beginning to see how things can link together meaning I can do work arounds and get it to do things I need it to that it wasn't really designed for. These solutions might not be THE most elegant out there but when they're added extras to what I really got the platform for I'm happy! There are a couple of things I'd love to change (the main being the community and the inability of my students to upload their own videos into community for me to coach them from,) but there are work rounds and I agree that Kajabi do seem very good at listening to what people actually want and I was just saying yesterday how pleased I was with the platform.

This was a valuable conversation, if a bit incomplete. I watched Tara’s video and I’m not sure if the game model is right for my course. As others have mentioned here, wrestling with tech gets in the way of creating content and managing a business. I’m also thinking that the options presented by Tara are more expensive when added up.

  • @PatriciaMuirMaestroQ
    @PatriciaMuirMaestroQ Před 2 lety +9

I follow Tara Wagner and enjoy her coaching topic videos. However, I believe her review of business tech tools distracts from her core competencies. I actually believe Tara has given a boost for Kajabi. Many points about “simplicity”, “basic”, and dependable are what most professionals appreciate. Personally, I do not want to spend time getting into the tech part. Point #2. I moved off Wordpress years ago because of the maintenance of widgets - one widget causing a security vulnerability - hacked site. Point #3. I agree with @Graham that success of our clients depends on our full product design including follow-up engagement. Taking a course, any course, does not provide transformation. It’s simply knowledge transfer. The Kajabi coaching module/feature is the next step for many. And perhaps the community module/feature. I look forward to further development of these two areas on Kajabi. Point #4. I actually, appreciate the simplicity of the pipeline feature. Once I educated myself on best practice, I enjoyed creating simple pipelines. #5 Kajabi support and educational video, webinars are the extreme added value making the investment more palatable. I’m not convinced that Tara took full advantage of what is offered.

      @TaraWagner Před 2 lety +4

Hey Patricia! I totally agree. I mention in my vid that simplicity can be great, but that nothing is 100% perfect for any biz owner. Those were the reasons I left but could very well be the reason someone else should stay! That's why honest, non-biased reviews (especially from people who aren't affiliates) are so important to watch - so each person can find what is the right fit for them!

I’m totally Mr Kajabi, and I’ve now got a £250k+ biz on it, but the major drawback for ME is…no A/B testing. If you have a list of 10,000, a product at $200, and a conversation rate of 3%, your launch will be worth $60k. If you can test and increase your conversion rate by just 1%, that will increase your turnover by TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. You can do that with spilt testing. Graham - I am TOTALLY team Cochrane, but that is not an insignificant gain for one feature, surely??

Am I spending too much time fixing broken links & their emails. I am going to convert kit & have posted multiple times their problems with their email campaign.
It’s time consuming their emails she is correct. They added analytics recently but did not fix their segmentation & you have to tag everything. It’s not a CRM & my google analytics is head & shoulders over their recent analytics.

      Yes subscribers & subscriptions.
      It’s a headache, and a time suck.
Really you have to tag everyone after they fill out a form.
The products are great & landing pages are Kajabi best feature. The gamification is a great point. Get results is not easy if they have to login with a user name & password every-time. (also a headache).

My $0.02 worth here... I think gamification is cool / good / useful, but at the end of the day, what matters more is how great your content and delivery is. Gamification will be easy for Kajabi to add over time (esp. with the USD $550m capital injection last year).

This is a great video Graham, good points from both sides. Most of her concerns with the Facebook pixel I believe are referring to advanced tracking when wanting to track very specific custom events like someone opting into a lead magnet but not yet converting in order to do very specific retargeting with facebook ads. That all gets very complex with multiple ads running all targeting your website viewers based on where they are in your funnel/customer journey. All though as you mentioned with the growth plan you do have access to the code editor on every page you create so that really shouldn't be an issue for her.
It seems like with design there are 3 tiers almost, Beginner (no design experience/needs templates), Intermediate (all custom designing and funnel built from scratch, but using the limited design tools in Kajabi compared to something like Wordpress), and then Advanced Beast mode (when full customization/control is needed for every step of the funnel). This seems to be the case with some of their features; from pipelines, emails, website designer. All of their tools can do the Intermediate level perfectly and more than enough for MOST people, but when needing more advanced web design or needing specific plugins for your website can be tricky.
My main site is an E-Commerce Shopify store with digital products and services and my email list is built using Mail chimp because of the e-commerce/design features it offers in the email builder. I also have a course that I offer in my email funnel that is hosted with Kajabi. I only use Kajabi to build the landing pages for the course and host the course. I too just do everything from scratch and find Kajabi to be more than enough for my needs even when running paid ads with facebook and tracking it all.
Interestingly enough, I bought one of your Pro Tools mixing courses back in 2013 and it really helped launch my freelance mixing career. The mixing stuff I learned from school (Full Sail) didnt even come close to be as useful as a simple few hours in your course. Been mixing hip hop artists ever since until I was inspired to start sharing my knowledge with my local artists and friends around town. I decided to make my first youtube video during the pandemic introducing my products and my life changed ever since. Then this channel came along and has been such a cool thing to see you transition into teaching your online money making side! So thank you Graham for all of your inspiration and knowledge from both RR & GC! Much love brother. 🙏🏼

Hi Graham, I'm struggling to decide if it's best to have Kajabi for a personal brand 100%, just courses etc., or use a keyword rich brand instead? Here is my example, as a WordPress web design and digital marketing agency owner, I'm looking to start a personal brand in 2024 and sell courses to help people do what I do. I see your Graham Cochrane is a Kajabi website, so have you seen any difference in Google rankings or customers finding you as you also have other non-personal name brands? So I guess I'm asking do you have any tips in terms of having a Kajabi site for a personal brand vs having a keyword name like "Web design for beginners" where your courses are on Kajabi, yet you use WordPress for a blog and branding? Thank you new friend.

It’s the second main reason I’m not considering Kajabi, (main reason is it’s €500 more expensive a year than my current setup) because I don’t think the navigation is intuitive at all. Great video! Love Tara's video and love this one. Wish Tara would do the detailed update video on her experience on the new platform after using it a lot - because I keep tipping back and forth. Especially since Xperiencify raised their price dramatically!
I'm a numbers guy, and conversion numbers are everything. I need detailed split testing, heat maps, etc to squeeze every conversion percentage possible. Every 1% of 1,000 hits is another 10 sales! Your conversion rate helps determine your revenue and adspend (along with LTV, etc). (Sure using Kajabi can help create a 7 figure biz - but you could bump that up with optimized conversions). And if you can't tell exactly what is hurting/helping conversions because you can't split test emails, website headlines, copy, price etc - then have the ability to see it all using detailed reports - how will you know what copy to change/adjust? Generally changing a page or email manually, publishing/unpublishing THEN looking at results is like using a shotgun to kill a rat, when a well aimed BB gun will be much more effective. ClickFunnels (I don't like them, but this is cool) at least split tests pages, and keeps the winner. Not sure if Kajabi does this?
And if Kajabi doesn't have this type of comprehensive split testing, and I have to use a 3rd party app's code snippet on Kajabi page - and Kajabi wants to charge extra for this VERY basic task, that's nuts. (I don't have Kajabi - just trying to understand the limitations).
Honestly, I'm not sure Xperiencify does any of this type of split testing either (to be fair).
Also, could you set an email trigger for a student who just finished a particular lesson, or hasn't watched a new lesson in x days, etc?

I'm checking into your info,Graham, and Kajabi. But, I have a senior background in system integration on large scale (largest) systems. You guys are frightening me. If a person is a content creator, every second devoted to technology tweaking is a waste of time.
I get the DIY approach, and I do that. But when the wheels come off, your content business is dead. If you're a control freak, ok, but Graham's view on 80/20 is the essence of what folks should be looking for.
In several decades of working with 'business users' they often focus on technology, and not their business. They have a solution, but aren't actually clear on what the business problem really is. I think Tara should do a cost benefit analysis of tweaking a 'sub-folder pixelation funnel transfer' ( smile ) to see if all the personal time invested is providing a reasonable ROI. As others might also note, "feature - target focus" is a bad problem for amature techs, which is the audience that Kajabi and others are targeting.
Graham's focus on management and judgement are much more important then all the technical whiz-bang functionality that is being SOLD by platform sellers. If Kajabi is a reliable platform with consistent performance, then that is the high value point. Not every piece of pretty, super detailed technology is going to change your business for the better. Most of it is a distraction. And if you're expecting to be all things to all people - quit now. Content creators (as opposed to product marketing folks) need to create content, nurture, feed, and listen. Never let the technology drive your content goals - support, enhance, extend, sure, but not drive. Customers needs should drive the content, which drives the business. And drives your success. Just my two cents worth as I travel down the road toward using these tools. Thanks Graham for doing the commentary.

I had so many of the same thoughts when I saw her video... it's obvious she didn't utilize the editing options and features inside Kajabi. You can create beautiful pages in Kajabi or buy templates from amazing Kajabi designers. You can do quite a few things she said Kajabi won't do. (Sending emails at specific times, adding pixels, up-leveling your upsell page, etc.) Kajabi offers gamification options now, but I choose not to use them... I find gamification to be a total distraction. I appreciate the way you reviewed this. What she showed in Kajabi was SO basic and therefore not a true comparison. Kajabi 100% will scale with you. No platform is perfect, but it's been everything I've needed and more for 4 years. Their community, customer service, and user experience can't be beat.

I understand feeling frustrated. I am about to lose my mind. When I click on my button on my landing page it has a pop-up that won't let me customize it to redirect to my form. It says Edit but it is unclickable. I feel like I keep getting stuck. I wish I had done my trial with Graham but now I feel like I am out of luck. I am going to go back to stress eating and crying in the corner.

She used SYSTEM PAGES not LANDING PAGES. SYSTEM PAGES do not have all the capabilities that LANDING PAGES do. She’s showing the default.
The Facebook pixel is easily added in settings. She’s probably thinking about how it’s done and Wordpress using a code snippet.
She’s showing her product in premier and it looks good… you can also use momentum

Graham is way more creative than her, he's saying you can get creative with the automations and the basic stuff she's talking about is just the simple foundation that gives you the freedom to be creative. Good analogy, platforms are like music mix templates, the more you use one the better your mix gets, Kajabi is probably like an Al Shmitt mix template....Hehe. This vid is so informative by Graham that I'm choosing Kajabi for my Online Business. Thank you Graham and Happy Father's Day to all of us Father's. God Bless!

We tried Xperiencify and it was a disaster. There's no way to access your billing to change anything or cancel trial. Your billing is housed on Stripe. You have to send a request to access your account. That link never comes to your email, so you have no idea what is being done. They want you to email them for everything... even to access your own billing center. Kind a shady, so beware. Once you enter your billing information, it's there forever.

Sounds like she’s got something else bothering her! She’s quit Insta too! It’s easy to tear something down but did she have any recommendations? I’m not even on Kajabi yet but I’ve done courses on the platform that I’ve loved! And yes, one of those is yours Graham! 😉 Kajabi is so simply, from a students perspective to find information and navigate through a course, that’s why I’ll be launching my course through them. There has to be a balance between the user experience and the customers experience 🤷🏼 Not sure where Tara is going but I wish her luck. 👍🏻

Sarah I thought the same thing. I would much rather she do a video on what she is using and tell us why it is so great as opposed tear down a product she is no longer using. Not very helpful.
Also I don't know Tara or anything about her business. But it does not motivate me to want to seek her out for advice and causes me to question her ability to teach or coach. But again, I don't know a thing about her.

The second half of my video (that Graham didn't show here, prob bc his reaction vid would be LONG lol) went into what I'm using instead. I'd highly recommend checking it out. The UX is amazing and my students RAVE about the built in gamification and automated accountability.
And hell yeah I quit Insta a loooong time ago! Best biz/time decision to date! LOL But as I say with everything - no decision is 100% right for every person. I hope you've found the perfect fit for you too!

Is there an API that can move data from XP to Discord that would keep the levels/badges etc relevant and up to date automatically?

Very humble job Graham and an excellent video. I’ve been with Kajabi from the first week of its release and am one of their Founders.
My reasons for staying with Kajabi: 1. Excellent integration. 2. No need for an IT consultant to wire up a custom suite 3. A very aggressive approach to continuous innovation. 4. Literally everything you need to run a turnkey, modern business. 5. Secure, fast, reliable. As good as it gets. No panicking days with Wordpress hosting. 6. Support is great. They hire and retain smart people. Recently added a site and forgot how to integrate with Google Business. They had me up an running in 15 minutes. And I only waited a couple of minutes to talk to them.
Kajabi is a rare platform run by a team of committed owners who really understand this market.
My take on her issues: She makes the exact mistake I often make … making “rabbit hole” emotional decisions without thoroughly digging into all the features/functions of your current technology or platform.

I am glad you have had great customer support so far I have not. And I pay $199.00 a month.
I feel I get a new Kajabi employee on chat every-time I reach out. And it reverts back to old password BS.
Kajabi Funnels is great but I find it hard to believe 2500 clicks into the funnels and not one course sale. Is it a need, yes did we do a keyword search yes. Did we design it well yes.
So the ROI on this is does not happen for everyone.

Thanks so much for this video, I am a Kajabi user and I freaked when I first saw her video. I am requesting everything. Upsell and cart I am outside (samcart) which I don't like either but they have physical option. My biggest problem with Kajabi, the not having real technical support, I am always better at kajabi than the person. I wander what to do now, I am freaking out because my business is still a baby. I currently pay : kajabi, samcart, zapier, powr, zoom, calendly, text-coaching (salesmsg) and shopping for a community JUST to have a complete program. I am currently thinking of buying her suggestion + app for my community. I'm going to watch your videos right away... you are thorough and that is super appreciated :) Sophie

Kajabi used to irritate the crap out of me for years, especially with its false claims of being an "all in one platform." However, they know seemed to have cleaned up most of the issues, added more features, and I finally jumped on board this year. For the first time ever, they do actually appear to be all in one. But lying about that for years when it was really little more than a course hosting platform left a bad taste in my mouth for a very long time about it. If you're not all in one, don't mislead people.

  • @GospelProgressionsUniversity

She really didn’t give it a fair chance did she? I appreciate her going through the trouble to make a critique video but she ain’t ready. Why didn’t she just dig a bit deeper or maybe find someone that knows the platform well enough to school her? She’s obviously not a subscriber bro.
