    Great video. There are many other reasons why you would choose Wordpress. For example, your comparison works if you just want to sell courses and can get rid of a traditional website altogether. If for example you also want to sell merchandise or other services alongside your courses, then you will still need a full website or combine even more plugins and integrations in WordPress. Also, you might live in a place where you CAN'T get paid directly by Teachable or Thinkific. So many escenarios. Or maybe you want custom made gamification. Again, this is a great comparison if you live like in US/Europe AND you don't need more online presence that the one Thinkable/Thinkific will provide AND you don't sell anything else. (One more thing is, if you sell B2B instead of B2C, you might still be better of with Wordpress).

      Totally agree. It's a good option for short term but looking at long term business growth, Wordpress is still the most ideal.

      Also... you send your website traffic away to a 3rd party which really stunts the long term growth and optimization of your website. People can also find your online course so much easier if it's all on the same domain.

    Super helpful! Does thinkific have a built in scheduling/calendar application like Acuity, or integrate with Acuity/other applications to help manage the scheduling of multiple classes with multiple instructors that may take place at the same time? If you have tutorials for specific apps I can watch those...

    • @GRUMO
      @GRUMO  Před 4 lety

      Hi Tina, as far as I know, Thinkific doesn't have a built in scheduling application. If you are referring to scheduling live classes, now Thinkific integrates directly with Zoom. This means, students could attend a Zoom class directly from Thinkific. The scheduling would have to be handled by a different app like Acuity or Calendly. Then you could integrate Acuity/Calendly with Thinkific using Zapier. I would have to know which exact workflow you are looking for to be able to create a tutorial that solves your specific problem.

    Hi, Thanks for the video. What solution do you recommend if we would like to have a website that offers both learning and products, and also works as the company's blog website? Does the Teachable/Thinkific supports such a feature to sync and integrate with a Wordpress website?!

    • @GRUMO
      @GRUMO  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Armin, You can create custom pages in Thinkific and a blog with Teachable but neither platform is design to function as a full fledge website/blog/store.
      The solution would be to create your base website with Wordpress and then have links to your online school and your e-commerce store. The store could be integrated within Wordpress using Woo commerce, or you could have it in Shopify and link to it from your Wordpress site.

    I have a couple of questions, it would be great if you could help.
    1. If I were to use Thinkific to host my course, would it be safe from piracy? That is, is it safe from people being able to download or record my course videos?
    2. I came across a life time deal for "Swipe pages" from appsumo and it says they provide hosting for upto 3 domains for lifetime. I am thinking about taking that deal and create a website with it and link to thinkific, my podcast etc. Do you think this would be a good approach?
    Thanks in advance!!!

    • @GRUMO
      @GRUMO  Před 3 lety

      Thanks!
      1. Piracy. Nothing uploaded to the web is completely safe from piracy. If some bad hackers really want to get to your data they will find a way regardless of where you put it. Having said that, Thinkific is very safe. The only people that could steal your content are the people that you give access to your school. That is your students. Anyone that has access to your course could possible be able to download your videos and repost them somewhere else. But this is true for any other hosting platform. Now, unless your course is super popular, it is very unlikely anyone will be interested in pirating it. If fact, one way to know you've made it is that people want to pirate your course. For 99% of courses the main problem is not piracy but lack of students.
      2. Swipe Pages: I have never used them so I cannot comment. If it's a lifetime deal, you may as well give it a try and see how it works for you (and let me know after you try it!)

    what you are saying makes a lot of sense especially about the labor involved, let alone if someone like me is even struggling with Divi theme let alone wordpress without it. but I find Teacheable's rates for example are way too high for a new instructor and the 1st course. Perhaps once I have a few courses it would make more sense. For now writing 2 and decided so far to host one on Udemy (smaller one) and a bigger one maybe on Thinkific - they do allow 1 course for free, right? I don't mind paying a reasonable % per sale to the platform but a monthly fee seems a bit daunting now (since already so many monthly/ yearly apps at in the budget).

      @@GRUMO yes thank you! You know, after paying for 2 years for a new hosting package and for a visual builder (divi) which I still was struggling how to use properly for non-course websites, WP has a learning curve on it its, I totally second your opinion & points made in this video. Unless you have a tech team/VA or are a tech pro yourself, as well as have a few types of websites, for a course business definately I'd choose a dedicated platform + create a landing page (whether on the platform or separately). Although I studied at a Russian therapy course at a school where they host courses with WP, it seemed ok, but they also have only 6 months access to the course and have a tech manager running it + FB group for some Qs & interractions, extra webinars.

      Hello! I don't use LeanDash. When I started teaching online in 2011, I used Wordpress with a plugin called Academy. Then, I migrated all my courses to Thinkific so I don't have to deal with all the tech stuff required to run your own online school on Wordpress + any LMS plugin such as Learndash, Sensei, Learnpress, etc.

    • @GRUMO
      @GRUMO  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes. Kajabi is a great tool but it is also more complex and more expensive. However, it may be worth since it combines several tools into one. However, I personally don't use Kajabi so I cannot provide much advice.

      Hi Amanda, Thinkific doesn't take any fees per transaction. The fees are taken by PayPal or Stripe which are 2.9% + 30c per transaction. Teachable takes 5% on their Basic Plan and zero on their higher plans.
