    i asked a local sheriff about the legality of my old rad runner. i told him it can go up to 20(ish). He said as long as i wasn't going through peoples yards or doing dumb stuff with it, it shouldn't be an issue. that was a few years ago, (i now have a hyperscrambler 2 and haven't been flagged down by any law enforcement yet) but would imagine that it's largely the same deal. but it all depends on the area your in and how the LEO's are about these things. just please be safe and smart. i really don't want harsh regulation coming down because of a few bad actors.

      unfortunately the situation is quite different between a legal class 2 bike that is considered just like any pedal bike under most regulations and a 50mph scooter that is neither classified as a bike , a scooter or a moped under any regulation and is either plain illegal or at best considered a motorcycle, which honestly it is.
      US are missing a less restrictive 125cc motorcycle license (legal in Europe with car driving license and only requiring a 7h class if you already rode a 125cc before the class became mandatory) which those fast scooters and mopeds could fall under
      one officer might give you the same answer but if you get into any accident you might be in big trouble and even without accident any cop could decide to ticket you and/or impound the vehicle..

    • @mountainbikerdave
      @mountainbikerdave Před rokem

      Cop's are usually complete idiots.
      They typically don't know anything about law, which is insane considering that it's their jobs to enforce it.
      If you actually want sound legal advice, consult a licensed attorney.
      Also in the fast majority of states it's illegal to give legal advice without a license.
      So chances are that sheriff's deputy you mentioned committed a criminal act but was too stupid to realize it.
      If you can not afford legal advice, You can look up state statutes on your state's legislative website.
      but I recommend watching a video or 2 about how to read and interpret legal text before going through the statutes.

      yeah bikes are great but the average fitness level, extreme wether in some states, distances people are driving every day, and the safety on a bike are obstacles for many people. riding only a bike is possible but usually means changing your lifestyle unless you live in a big city with everything within 10 miles radius

    • @swedneck
      @swedneck Před rokem +1

      @@geemy9675 eh most of the things you list aren't actually dealbreakers for the vast majority of people, they're just excuses people come up with.
      In the end most people live in urban areas with most amenities available, it's at least possible to *mostly* rely on a bike.
      And, of course, most people don't live in america.
      Here in sweden it's quite trivial for 80% of the population to live without a car at all, my mom only owned a car for like 5 years (which didn't actually benefit her in any way) and my dad recently sold his and has repeatedly told me how switching to an e-bike was the best thing he ever did.

I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a cool bike that the police can hypothetically confiscate any time due to its lack of registration. 🤦

    I would say if you can keep up with traffic, then it's a motorcycle. Bike lanes should only be for pedestrian bike riders. Don't ride a motorcycle in the bike lane because you want to be "THAT PERSON" trying to beat traffic thinking you're above everyone else

      @Brandon-cs8gw Před rokem +1

      Because you got an e-scooter that can go 40 doesn't make you think that you're above everyone else, lol. People can remove the speed limiter on their e-bikes, & hit 40 easily with 750 watts with pedal assist. No reason to put those type of motors on e-bikes anyway, if you can't get your money's worth. Hitting 30 is easy on just about every e-bike on the market

      @@Brandon-cs8gw I don't need to go 50mph. I want range. Making e-scooters faster is just an excuse for people not to get a license, registration, or insurance. Part of riding a bike/ebike is the adventure. Let alone it's hard enough for people to see motorcycles, now you're going silent

      The Rukus takes like 30 seconds to reach 40mph. This is what 6 seconds to hit the same? The Honda has insane range for being 1 gallon and you can fill it up and be back riding in 30 seconds. But even with mods it’s still not going to be quick. The fact it can be registered and street legal is a big plus. But this has crazy acceleration.
      I was looking at the Rukus but it’s just to puttputt, riding something that takes half a minute to reach 40mph on the street with cars would be a death wish here in So Cal. Lol
      While not legal this would be worlds better when riding with inpatient cars.

    Where I live because this is a "scooter" and lacks pedals you would need a driver's license of any class to ride this on public roads. It doesn't have to be registered or carry a license plate. You can't ride on roads with a posted speed limit higher than 25mph, unless there is a bike lane in which case you are required to ride in the bike lane. You aren't allowed to go faster than 15mph on public roads, can't ride on the sidewalk and have to wear a moto helmet. Ironic that it was designed in California but you basically cant ride it here in public.. lol
