I know this comment was made 5 years ago but I wanna just… voice my view on this I guess?
Anyways I feel like a had very a different experience with this song, when I found it I was in a very unhealthy relationship that I really wanted to get out of. She was the type of person who wouldn’t let me do anything without her and if I did she would just happen to have mental breakdown when I wasn’t paying attention to her, stopped me from seeing any family, friends, and attending school. And she also considered hitting me a form of affection, didn’t care that I told her to stop. I was also working a job that I hated that she convinced me to get that had me where I was waking up with my hands in pain every morning. There was a bunch of other shit, but from just that you can tell it’s pretty bad. The only time I was able to be at peace was when she was at work, or when I stayed up super late and fucking my sleep schedule, and I could just get on my computer and play some video games and hang out with my friends and listen to Thundercat. This song especially hung with me bc I just wanted out and just wanted to say all these things in this song to her. I would get so pissed, relaxed, and grooving my head like I would get up and dance if I knew how, all at the same time. I just wanted out and basically tell her “bye I’d rather play any video game than be with your ass” and just ‘throw her in the garbage’ like in the song. His songs honestly felt like it was the only thing holding me together at some point. So many depressing themes but also with uplifting and just funny ones making feel like no matter what’s happening it’s going to be alright.
Anyways, so many emotions, so many memories that get processed every time I listen to this song, but it still love it bc keeps me at peace bc it reminds me at least I’m out now. I’m in a better place, working a better job, and don’t have to worry about if any move I make will bring the wrath of whatever god down upon me. I’m finally free to be me and have a genuine smile on my face.

The friendzone is a controversial concept, and to an extent I think it's wrongly framed as something used to hurt men. Like, if she's not into you, she's not into you, and you can't do anything about that. But that's not her fault, and there's no reason to lash out at her for it. On the flipside, it's up to you to decide if you can take being her friend. If you love her so much that it causes you pain to even see her, then you should just cut it off. Even tell her you can't do it. She'll understand and respect your vulnerability. Friendzone situations can be resolved without hating each other.
