The face of the league is AntMan point blank period. The NBA is a business, they’re world class at marketing and brand strategy and it’s a no brainer to make Anthony Edwards the focal point of the league, he exudes swagger, he’s funny, he’s youthful, he’s not afraid to speak his mind and his media literacy is growing. Add charisma to explosive ability on the court and you have a recipe for global stardom. Wemby is too low key and cerebral to truly take on being the face of the league, he has a personality fit for the Spurs, and a lot of European players just don’t market themselves like that in basketball because Europe is all about soccer. If they’re not ever going to be the biggest stars in their own country it’s hard to see how they can do that in America. Mbappe is the biggest star in Europe along with Haaland and even Ronaldo still. The Messi craze has already subsided in the US.

Ant has embraced being in the limelight and he already has a massive ad campaign with Adidas and he’s more of a household name because he benefits from being homegrown. Wemby hasn’t fully embraced being the face of the league yet, you don’t really see him outside of postgame interviews. I know his ad campaigns are just heating up, the Olympics will help put both guys in more markets. There has never been a foreign born face of the NBA, in recent years we’ve seen more guys rise to superstardom, coinciding with LeBron, KD, Steph aging out of the league.
