  • Ski run in Les Deux Alpes from 3400 to 1300 (Glacier, going trough Les Deux Alpes village, all the way to Mont de Lans), late March 2019.
    There are some inevitable flat parts, also some blacks were closed, in result the video is a bit boring at times, but I preferred to avoid speeding it up.

    I used to go there every year as a kid, these are some of my best childhood memories.
    It's a bit sad that there's so little snow these days. Apparently they did a great job with these snow guns, but I remember back then (late 70s ~ mid 80s), everything was completely covered in snow; sometimes you'd need snow chains to even get to the village.
    Anyway, thanks for the great video. Hope you enjoyed your time there.

      @ericthed1700 Před 3 lety +3

      Both Les Deux Alpes and nearby Alpe d'Huez are known for their 2000m drop slopes. The longest and most relaxing one is Sarenne (Alpe d'Huez) wich is said to be the longest black run in Europe. But it is not as black as it used to be. The steepest ans narrowest parts were softened and enlarged years ago. A challenging one is Tunnel down to La Fare (ALpe d'Huez). Tunnel is a steep gymkhanna to start with. Then, there are some nice long red and blue slope until La Fare. La Fare is drawned in the trees a bit like a road in the mountain. It is not difficult in itself but as its altitude is low the snow could be tricky to ski, especially early in the morning in March.
      And to finish, Les Vallons de la Meije (les Deux Alpes) is a free ride domain from top of the Meije glacier down to the village of La Grave.

    • @wickedangle
      @wickedangle  Před 3 lety +3

      @@ericthed1700 I skied the Sarenne, it gets its title as "longest black run in europe" but it is rather red-ish with a long flat part at the end. I think is black to discourage beginners, because after you are on it, you are committed for the long run, there is no turning back. But is a very nice run, nice scenery, very peaceful as there are no lifts, huts, etc during the descent.
      The Tunnel was closed when I went there, I cant wait to go back and try it. Thanks for the info.

    I was at L2A in Feb 2019 just 6-8 or so weeks before you. It looks alot different from your video. We stupidly went during the French bank holiday, it was absolutely rammed. Easily 10x busier than in your video, the lower slopes were a mess, but much nicer higher up. All slopes were open, lots of snow. A couple of days the VERY top (above Jandri Exress 2) were closed due to wind and temps below -22C.
    As a beginner, I loved it, more slopes to chose from than I could count. Something for everyone.

For eating on the mountain I would recommend Chalet de la Fée, maybe a bit later in the day when it gets more sun. @@wickedangle My comment was not against you, of course. On the contrary, you did an excellent job for documentation and also the gps indications are really interesting. it was quite clear to me that if you want to make a single run, you don't have many alternatives; by the way, I've never been there, hope to have this opportunity soon or later. Thanks

    I would need to stop 3-4 times to rest. OK, maybe 5 times :)

    Rank amateurs always fail to use their pole straps. It marks you as a fool. It is the straps which allow you to actually plant, and swing your poles. You can't even stand on one ski.

      Thanks, never gave it much thought. I dont have ambitions with my skiing other than having fun, but I always appreciate a tip. And certainly, I wouldn't want to look like a fool! :D

    Long run indeed, but what I see from hands and shadow on the snow, a much better body-position could be trained !
