If I get a bolt action pen, I want it to be weighty, but not annoyingly so...easy to hold and comfortably grip (not slippery and wide)...a solid, fidget click (not loose and rattly)...and pressurized no-smudge gel ink. I don't like blacked-out everything because that stuff is just so easy to lose or rummage around for in a dark pouch/bag.

Great video! I am a big fan of Tactile Turn pens. I have several of their bolt action and side click pens. My favorite right now is the Tactile Turn Smooth Operator!! 🔥 🔥

Agreed on the boring top clickers!! The Tactile side click is a nice fidget pen and a different option of clicking to the top click. I really enjoy the bolt action pens I have above all. Twist pens with some weight and a buttery smooth ink refill are nice as well. I have yet to venture into fountain pens. What are your thoughts on those?
I gotta give Tactile a try. I’ve heard nothing but great things. Twist pens are a bit challenging for me personally because being left handed I tend to grip and twist the pen the opposite way, cause the cartridge to go back into its housing 😅. I’ve yet to even write with a fountain pen!

I have been wanting a BIG IDEA DESIGN pen in brass but with so many other options to choose from it really makes it hard to land on a specific one! I love my bigidesign pen. Honestly one of my favorites. The Refyne pen is also an awesome option. I find my self going back and forth with both of those
Dunno if you ended up making a purchase. I was also about to pull the trigger on the BID pen but then decided to go with the Refyne. My reasons were:
1. Refyne is 100% metal. BID has critical structural components in plastic. Yes they both have lifetime warranties but I don't necessarily expect any of those companies to be in business in 20 years and in 20 years I think I can trust titanium more than plastic.
2. A big plus of the BID is also what causes that plastic situation - the extreme adjustability to accomodate different size refills. However when I look at reality the 3-4 refills I love and want to have all fit the Refyne and in fact when using those, the Refyne is also more compact than the BID is.
3. The Refyne clip has two nice benefits... it can be removed if you want to go clipless and also it can be mounted backwards to straighten/retension it if it were to get bent.
I'm not including the fact that the Refyne is about 1/2 the price because that's just a cherry on top.

Just got my titanium slim bastion today. Loving it so far. Not too heavy and not too light. Very strong by spring compared to my $15 smootherpro bolt action.

Been using the Fisher clutch pen. Pretty robust piece but the pocket clip invariably loosens and begins spinning around. I've been using it for a few years, lost a few but always went back to it. Finally lost it again and decided to mix things up, went with the right in the rain metal readiness pen. Slim, robust, less moving parts and has a glass breaker!

Great review! Did I see a slight of kali / Sayoc technique when you were demonstrating the use of the pen as a self defense weapon? 😁. I’ve been carrying a Silex Jet Pen. It brings new meaning to bolt action. Lol

I have USA made ones from: Tactile Turn, Urban Survival Gear, Smooth Precision, Nottingham Tactical and Fellhoelter. I have Chinese made ones from: Big Idea Design, Civivi and We Knifeco, RovyVon, Olight, Reate, Bestech, Maxace, Two Sun, Smootherpro and Rike (the only pen with the bolt on the wrong side of the clip).
Been using my big idea click pen do awhile no and love how it takes all refills.

I have a Big Idea Design slim bolt action in stonwashed Titanium. Very comfortable and like the ability to use a very wide variety of refills.
I like the Bolt Action models as well. Definitely looking into the the pocket pro also. Looks like a solid pouch pen for WAJU & WAS by @data_crew
@@mikeydailycarry .... I liked the pen so much that I ended up ordering two mini versions at 3 1/2 inch length for EDC. The regular version is too long and more suited for home or office use.

I dig bolt action pens but my only issue is that the one I own isn’t as smooth as I wish it were and I think thanks why I kinda kicked em off my list 😂 but with that being said I think I have to find the right one to fall in love with.

Just gotta give it some trail runs to find the right one. I really like the bigidesign and Refyne pens.
Karas Kustom Bolt here. I put Pentel Energels in it and LOVE it. It's in blue anodized aluminum. It wasn't cheap. I would get another bolt action pen in the $10-$15 range if there is a good one (especially a mini-sized)

I had nothing but problems with tactile turn. The bolts all began to strip at the threads. Also, G2 refills are trash. Gel pens smear all over the place and if they get wet they’re illegible. I wound up selling all of the ones i bought. Also, the clips loosened on them all. When I say loosened the bent the surrounding metal making them loose and practically unusable.

At this point, I'm sure someone has mentioned Olight, which I'm pretty surprised you didn't mention at all. I only have one of their full-sized models with the white LED and green laser, but with their O'Pen Mini, I have nearly 15 of them, including about 7 different colors and a brass variation. Definitely my favorite EDC pen. I may be rare, but I simply don't need full length pens ever, so I'm totally good with their shortness, which also allows them to lay very securely at the bottom of pretty much any pocket, when you don't have a shirt pocket upon which to clip. They're a great bargain, write well, and they were even providing free refills early on.
I have yet to get my hands on an o’pen. I actually just recently got my hands on a tactile turn which lots have recommended from this video. Definitely have an update coming up soon 🤙🏾
How do you have 7 different colors? I can only find listings for red or green for the O'pen Mini.

@@aaronsandman749 Over the years, they've sold several different colors, but rarely have more than one or two colors available at any one time. I assume when a color sells out, they don't always do another run. I have black, red, blue, OD green, orange, purple, and the considerably heavier brass version.

calling a click pen "boring" isn't a valid criticism of the mechanism IMO. And to call the bolt action robust in comparison to clickers doesn't make sense to me because click pens ARE robust. They work every time and I have never in my life had a click pen break on me. I've had plenty of twist pens break or get stuck and think it's a very clumsy and fragile mechanism, but never click pens. The only thing I could see as a reason to prefer bolt action over a clicker is that it's a simpler mechanism, as clickers are extremely complicated and hard to visualize. Though if minimalism is what you're after, you really can't beat the simplest mechanism: a cap.
The only thing I can say about bolt action is this: cool factor.
That’s a fair analysis. Of course this video is based off of my personal use case and experience. There’s definitely more of a fun fidget factor with bolt action pens in my opinion and it definitely brings a newer and more fun experience to writing. I appreciate you for watching my video 🤙🏾

My edc pen is the Fisher space pen. Carried it for almost 20 years. Have replaced the cartridge 4 times. It writes upside down and under water. It also fits in my wallet. Today's price is $30.
