Fast and cursive. I'm also heavyhanded and only use a lighter hand when I'm doing calligraphy
I mostly use fine-tipped Japanese gel pens, but my favourite pen is the Stabilo .88
my handwriting is really fast and round and i press down a lot, leading to hand cramps often when i take tests for history or english, that involve a lot of fast writing. I use a pentel energel 0.7 when i write, because skinny lines make my handwriting look more messy and feels a little scratchy sometimes.... and the barrel is super comfy and the ink is so smooth that it reduces hand cramping a lot.
I rarely use any of the types of pens in this video, as they all tend to hurt to write with, after a few sentences. So, it's fountain pens for me. With the right combination of pen and ink, there's very little I can't write on with a fountain pen.
Size of the nib determines how I actually write. The finer the nib, the smaller my writing.
If I need my writing to dry quickly, iron gall ink. I also have inks that can take days to dry, and they're not the "usual suspects" of high sheening.
After dealing with the pain from other pens, I've kind of found combinations that let me write in almost all situations I need to, and usually use a fountain pen. 😉
Do you have any suggestion for small, type style and fast handwritings? I use the Pentel iPlus with 0.5 refils from the Coleto model (mainly Slicci and Energel units), but it's becoming really hard to find them and 0.5 gel pens are hard to find in my country (Brazil). Can you syggest some Pilot, Faber Castel or Uni pens?
Lefty and cursive but also print sometimes. I like the energel Clena but got a fountain pen recently I just love. It has medium tip but I would prefer smaller.

@@livemoksha I still haven't found the ideal pen, but I'm looking to try the 0.5mm “Pentel energel pen”, as I currently use 0.5 “Zebra Sarasa Clip”.
I found that the sakura ballsign is pretty nice to use, and the zebra sarasa markon in 0.5 dries super fast
@@Xy_ Mine felt a bit scratchy, so during that time when I had slower drying pens I did my best to make sure what I wrote didn't smear.

I change my writing style a lot, depending on what I am writing, notes, lists etc. But I finally found a pen I love after years of trying new ones. Zebra F-301 Ballpoint Pen, Stainless Steel. I have bought about 8 of these as I didn't want to run out. Smooth, nice weight, thin barrel. Just wonderful. All my other pens are now hiding in a tub ... I may use them again.
or you could give them away or something if you prefer OR if the ink and body is compatible, you can swap inks and pen bodies together to create new combinations

@@333nanette You can also consider the G301 gel version if you really like the design of the F301, but I have to warn you that they run out FAST. Good thing they sell refills by the 10-pack.

This is incredibly liberating to learn that I can in fact calibrate my writing experience by choosing the right pen. Not sure if it is the same around the world, but where I grew up, we never even had a concept of “choosing a pen”. It was either you manage, or your tiny child hands are not skilled enough and you need to try harder (with whatever pen you found around the house or whatever was the cheapest at the store of course). It never even crossed my mind that writing can be made much less frustrating. I’ll be a conscious pen buyer now :’)

I knew about stationery and how to write long before the net even turned up, so believe me I don't need Americans giving me tips on what pens are best suited to writing style. The greatest writers and diarists (like myself) don't need flash pens to make us write better, same with cars....a fancy car don't make us better drivers.
@@markcaldwell2831 Yes, that is true, but some pens are best for certain types of people! For example, someone people might prefer to write with a pen with a squishy grip! It all depends on your interests! You don't have to say anything if you don't have anything nice to say! ^^
I'm a weird mix of fast writer and cursive due to the fact my primary school (roughly equivalent to elementary school, for you Americans) had us learn to write cursive from Reception (which I think is basically Kindergarten, if I understand correctly).

For us it was Grade 3 - at grade 3 everyone had to learn and try cursive

I’m British as well but had to the this thing called “Kinetic letters” and it messed up my handwriting in primary school
I have small handwriting that’s messy -according to my parents, everyone else thinks its pretty and I think it looks messy- I find it looks better with a larger tip from my pens. I have a callus on my middle finger where my pens and pencils have pushed too hard onto the skin so having a squishy grip would probably be great to prevent it from getting worse. Thanks for making this video, now I know what to look for when I go to buy pens!

You should not press down that hard at all. If you do, you need a gel pen or fountain pen that writes without applying pressure. It can really mess up your joints.
I recommend pencils for bad handwriting (experience)
My professor gave me his Pentel Energel and since then, I've been using it as well as Zebra, Uniball, and Muji. My friends and family couldn't believe that I'm buying pens that worth alot than the local cheap pens but boi they have no idea how fun it is to write using these pens. My handwriting changes too with what pen I use hehe

Pentel Energel Gel Pens for the win!!! i'm a lefty and they're the only pen i ever use (i prefer the capped needle tip). They are comfortable to hold, have dark saturated ink, and don't smudge or print onto your hand. I buy them by the box load and keep them everywhere!!
Energel are among my favourites, but I will choose a click pen every time
I’m curious why you like capped? It seems so much more convenient to have a clicky pen. Is there a difference in performance you’ve noticed?
Ooh I’m left handed too, trust me, try the uniball air. It’s super good .energel is also obviously good, but I mostly use them for their superior ink colors, not writing experience.

I write almost exclusively in cursive and I love 0.35 gel pens. My favorites are Muji, Pilot Juice, and Uniball Signo 151. I'm also a sucker for fountain pens but that's kind of for a different kind of writing in my use
I freaking love the Hi-Tec-C 0.4mm for calculus and chem/physics tests! You can make your work so neat even when fitting a million terms into a small area.
I had the smallest handwriting in the world, but after falling in love with the .7 pilot b2p i had to write a lot bigger
I'm a printer who writes at a medium speed. My biggest vice, is that I tend to push down hard with any pen I used, so I usually stick to ballpoints since they are durable. The Pentel RSVP fine point is my pen of choice. I've used them since getting a sample one to try six months before they were officially released decades ago and I just can't quit it. It gives me my best handwriting, no matter how quickly I'm writing.
When my usual pen is too juicy (aka the paper is too cheap) that's my go-to alternative.
this must be why mom likes those pens....she writes so hard i can read the embossed letters 2 or sometimes ever 3 pages under. yet i have never seen her rip the paper???
I'm rewatching this while writing in my bullet journal, and my pen of choice for it is a Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto. The assortment of ink colors for the pen components is great for color-coding! I bought my Coleto and a bunch of colors of pen components for it a few years ago, and it's the best multi-pen I've ever used :D Also, my go-to pen for giving my friends when they need black pens is the Uni-Ball Signo, so I totally approve of the shoutout!

I don't often write legibly, just jotting down notes as fast as I could. But the pens I've been comfortably using through the years were always Pilot - the Pilot ballpoint pen and the G-Tech C3. Recently, I've bought Pilot Acroball 300 and I love it!
Same here. I am a fan of the Pilot Dr. Grip for a ball point pen, although I am generally a fountain pen user. Pilot Metropolitan is my go-to for those.
@@juliazegarra2660 I could have written your post! I love both of these pens, have most of the Metropolitan med nib fountain pens, the fine nib scratches too much for me, and I've gotten my niece hooked on them as well. I just "discovered" the ballpoint version and love them too!

I hold my pen pretty tightly and write quickly, but small. I’ve been using Uniball Signo 0.38mm tip gel pens since I found them in Japan in 2008. Bought a ten-pack some years ago and thankfully I’m still working through them. They’re a bit scratchy, but I kind of love that sensation, so I’d recommend them for someone that likes that feeling. 🤘🏻

I'm a lefty with small handwriting. I love the Pentel EnerGel, but find the 0.7 mm to be too broad and have had trouble with the 0.5 mm skipping. I typically use the Zebra bLen as my go-to -- the ink isn't as vibrant and smooth as the EnerGel, but I find it more consistent.

I usually use the Zebra Sarasa (clip & dry) and the Pentel EnerGel (normal & needle tip). These 2 pens work well for me and I highly recommend them. ✍🏻
I had a Pentel EnerGel pen and I love it. So smooth and it dry fast enough.
I loved it so much that I started "saving" it for more personal stuff.
My favourite pen by far
As a right-handed person that writes in a hybrid cursive style, I found the Pilot G-2 to be a good match. It has a hard rubber grip and the ink flows out with no bleeding or smudging. If I leave it clicked open it doesn't dry out. I prefer to write in blue ink and this pen fills that need.
The best pen I’ve ever had, with the only con being that the ink in the pen dries up every time. I get to write 50 words then it dries up. Do you know a similar pen that’s also very reliable when it comes to the ink not drying?

I am all over the place on writing style, so I keep an assortment of pens at the desk so I can use what feels right at that particular moment! My general go-to is a .5mm Zebra Mark On in Black, or my TWSBI GO in Fine Point. I also get a lot of use out of my Uniball multi pen!
It’s such a good point to consider your own style! Years ago I envied fellow design students who used micro-needle pens but had tiny and precise handwriting, which didn’t work for me! This is a great video, thanks.
Thankyou for the video. I am a heavy handed writer. Your video helped me realize a larger heavier gel pen helps me to not press so hard. Helps me write longer without hand issues. Let the pen do the work for you!
What i find a little strange is that I tend to be somewhat heavy-handed when writing (to the point I've gone months at a time without picking up a pen, but still had a permanent bump on my middle finger), but when I draw, my grip on the pen/pencil is extremely light and feathery. I hold it just tight enough to keep my lines stable and not the tiniest bit more.
The intended goal behind my work has such a substantial factor on how I grip the pen.
I'm right-handed, but my position is sooo weird that it has affected all 3 of my last fingers! I also keep on smudging the work as I have my pinky above where I'm writing so now I look for left-handie pens but the one I'm now using (Zebra Sarasa 0.7mm) runs out too quickly to keep up with the long writing work I do every day! One pen usually lasts like 2 weeks and then they're just not smooth at one point, where it's scratchy enough for me to switch to the 4 in-one BIC rollerball, which I HATE SO MUCH because it has this greyish colour and it isn't blank and dark like the zebra I'm used to. I love the zebra, but this time I'll go for the 0.5 zebra to save some ink maybe because they cost quite a lot if you buy a new pack every 3 weeks... I'll end up paying thousands a month in the future if I don't find another pen, so does anyone have a quick-drying (not necessarily for lefties, just something that isn't purely liquid to be smudged around the entire page with one swipe) pen that has a dark colour, not like the Pilot erasable pens but a pen that has a darker colour than printed paper! I've got print writing and I take loads of space to write. I had a Pilot G2 but I never wanted to use it because I kept on going back to work and smudging the entire page out. I like the Uniball Eye 0.5 but it smudges, but I don't think It'll affect me as much as the G2 did. So I think I'd rather have a look at other pens!

I like fountain pens because they allow me to keep my hand really slanted. Having pens that almost require a perpendicular application are not good for my hand

After years of looking for a perfect pen, I finally found one that fits me greatly. I use the uni ball signo dx. My handwriting is quite fast and usually considered messy and ugly haha. I'm also studying japanese, so a thinner pen is better for writing kanji (my writing is already small) and I prefer the feeling of more scrappy tips (but still smooth enough for me to write fast).
I have a print writing and the pen I prefer the most is the pentel ener gel 0.7 because it’s so smooth when I’m writing and it drys very quick I accidentally bought it for a much higher price than I thought it would cost and was very mad about it until I tried the pen. Now I love it and bought a refill ink patron, I highly recommend this pen

Totally agree about swapping refills and bodies, I put Uni-ball Signo or Energel refills in nice rollerball bodies because they work better than the cheap included refills. The only thing I’ve found so far that reduces how much my hand cramps is the Twsbi Eco T fountain pen. I don’t have to press hard at all and the fine nib gives me good dry times with no bleed through.

when taking notes in a really fast lecture i love the uniball air. you might have trouble with smudging but its so smooth that the friction of writing doesnt hurt your hand nearly as much
I've got small, neat, slow handwriting - always had a preference for biro/ballpoint pens as I've found I have the most control over the ink (plus I doodle a lot and they have the best range for shading), but I've recently bought a rollerball pen that I'm finding pleasant to use as well :)

I write fast, small and in cursive thanks to my primary school making cursive mandatory and university forcing me to write super fast. I use a jet stream for planning, fountain pen and zebra sarasa for journaling and ballpoint for work (because they’re usually cheaper)
i really love using the pentel energel needle tip 0.5 in a sarasa body !! it doesnt smudge and is smooth, the sarasa body is very comfortable to write with too

Sharpie gel pen is my go-to pen recently. Good lines, consistent and comfortable in the hand.
I write pretty quickly with small handwriting. While I like the fast dry time of the Energel, the needle tip is a smidge too scratchy for me to love using it for longer writing sessions. My three current pen loves are the Uni-ball Signo DX in 0.38, the Yookers Metis in 0.8(it’s a fineliner that uses fountain pen ink!), and the Twsbi Eco T in fine.
Signo DX o.38 is also my go to!
It's perfect for when I'm summarising notes before exams
I have a really tiny handwriting and often the big tip sizes is a headache cause I can read it fine, but sometimes it just unifies in other letters and well makes it little bit harder to read, so thank you!

I’m a fast-writing lefty, and I absolutely love the pentel Energel line! So smooth and fast drying. Sometimes on really long, fast writing sessions I’ll get a smidge of ink on my hand, but no smudges on my notes and it does wash off quickly. Love the Energel!

Uni Jetstream (0.7) has been my default pen for about 15 years.
Im a fast writer and i tend to write in almost a 180 degree angle or some kind of angle because im used to write on a very small surface . my current favorite pen is the pilot BP-1 RT. I have been using this pen for quite awhile, but i also tried using the pentel Energel before and it felt so much smoother.
i like to use fountain pens with various lamy nibs. the lamy nibs write very well and have good flow rates, perfect for use with inks that has colored metals mixed in for luster. and the ability to differentiate line thickness and ink color with pressure complements my erratic writing where words and letters frequently jump in size or alternate in case.
My husband LOVES pilot hi-tec-C and I DO NOT. As a cursive lefty, the Zebra Dry is amazing!!! Along with Uni and Coletto.
the Pentel EnerGel Clena is my go-to as a left-handed writer. I love my Sarasa Dry pens too but the EnerGel has more color options.
Apparently zebra sarasa does have the color options but they aren't offered via jetpens. Zebra does make them both in the 0.5 and the 0.38 as far as refills goes. I mean I've bought them from muji.
Is the sarasa pens bleed through?

I’m a heavy hand writer and a fast writer and I use Pental energel 75(spring limited edition),I also use KOKUYO’s vividry for it’s smooth writing

i literally have the uniball jetstream .38 in that same color right next to me. I'm a fast writer (gotta write fast to keep up with my thoughts), so I prefer stuff that dries quickly. i usually don't like ink that flows too easily, though, because it makes my handwriting look too messy. i also tend to accidentally touch previous writing, so its not good if the ink takes too long to dry. i like the thinner tips, too - i think it looks cooler.
I was writing in cursive my whole life and bought a fountain pen a year ago, now I've switched to print to make my notes neater and I use Lamy Safari with an F nib. I'm also thinking of changing my ink from Waterman Serenity Blue to black ink, I kinda like it more
I’m a combination of fast writer, cursive and small handwriting! For me my go to and all time favourite pen had to be the Pilot High tec-C, the needle point is perfect for me!
Now I need one where they tell me which pen bodies work with what refills.
My handwriting: fast, cursive, big. I love my uni jet stream, but I do wish it was a 1mm instead of the .7mm because I love how cursive looks and flows with my other 1mm pen.
They do make a 1.0 Jetstream. I love mine.
Try the pentel glidewrite
I am a lefty with handwriting on the bigger side. I have been using the Pentel Energel Clena and the Zebra Sarasa Dry. I prefer 0.5 mm to 0.7 mm. I like both so far. I also have heavy handwriting so I have a callous on my middle finger where I put the most pressure.
Fountain pens require more care but I find it more comfortable so I try to write with fountain pen when I can. However, sometimes the paper is just not made for fountain pen inks ... perhaps I need to buy extra fine nib (still not guaranteed it will write properly on some papers though 😅)
I'd love to see a video on the pens and pencils with cute designs like limited edition pens or with Pokemon/Studio Ghibli designs like the uni kuru toga pens.
I write lefty, heavy handed, very small, fast, half print half script hybrid but yet all caps mostly. I typically use a gel pen like a Pilot G2 or Sharpie S Gel. If I have a lot of writing to do, I've been reaching for a Pilot Precise rollerball or one of the few fountain pens I have in an effort to conscientiously reduce my writing pressure.
i used to go thru a lot of pilot g-tec and muji gel pens, but now i'm a big fan of uniball signo gel ones!! i use the micro 307 with a rubber grip. the ink flow is great for my heavy handwriting which can vary from fastly done cursive to carefully written script. kinda wished i looked for function rather than aesthetic in pens sooner.

Well, I write cursive and and I use fountain pen. It makes my handwriting look beautiful but the ink leaks sometimes.
I have ordered several pens from JetPens. Their customer service is awesome! My favorites are Pentel Energel 0.7 and 0.5mm NEEDLE tips. They are the best!!
I'm a cursive writer, I used to use lepen 0.5 but now I'm using the uniball air, thanks to your video!

My mother is left handed and the Sarasa Dry sounds like it could be a fun stocking stuffer for her this year. The Uni-ball Signo Premier 207 seems like it may help me with my death grip or at least help with my hand cramps. The EnerGels also sound like a great all around choice! Looking forward to trying these out!
JetPens really out here telling me there are .25mm pen tips!! I might just have to buy some!
I tend to use a .38 Pilot G-2 or .3 Pentel EnerGel when writing in Japanese (otherwise I can’t write legible kanji in the size I wanna write…) but prefer thicker, juicier pens for English (although I guess that’s completely relative, because I’ve been using a Pilot Precise V5 lately, which is still technically considered “extra fine”)
I used to write with only .25mm Micron pens but the tips are pretty delicate, I broke a few over the years before switching to the same size you mentioned for the Energel. Still, for things like kanji or Hangul they would be great!
Love jet pens 🥰 when I was still in high school I would save up money until I had 25 or use my birthday money so that I could collect cool and unique pens since orders 25+ had free shipping. It was always a joy to open the package and try the supplies out!
I’ve used multiple pens at my workplace ranging from the standard ballpoints to sometimes splurging on pilot gel pens. But after a while I decided to get a Zebra G-402 gel pen and I’ve not gone back since. Smoothest writing and ink stream I’ve ever had.
My handwriting is so small that I write my capital letters in half of one line 😂 and I write super fast too

I write very quickly, small & mostly print. I’m loving the Energel Clena pens in 0.4 size!
I’m a mix between heavy handed, print, fast writing and to top it all off I’m a lefty. I switch up between the hi-tec 0.4, pilot juice 0.5, and the zebra sarasa vintage 0.5
I have large handwriting, I like pens with broader and water based ink that can easily create lines without much pressure. Also I have medium speed and my Nemesis is also scratchy pens. The bleed-through isn’t much of a problem for me because the papers I use for writing will only have bleed through if I force it. I use roller ball pens most of the time

I use the Zebra Sarasa Mark On for a faster dry since i’m left handed but i’ll have to check out the other dry one too! Their gel pens are my favorite.
The uni-ball air micro is my favorite pen ever. The blue is a cyan color ink that is vibrant and flows so well with my unique writing style of hybrid print cursive.

I've been using the uni jetstream a lot recently. I think that's what was keeping me from going fast, I'm a rather fast writer but felt like my writing speed was too slow recently especially during important exams. I'll be sure to look out for that. The uni jetstream is great to write with on other occasions though.
I have really small handwriting and have been using the Hi Tec C gel pens since I entered secondary school. I personally prefer the 0.4 or 0.5 tip

I use the Zebra Sarasa Clip 0.5 for my bullet journal, TWSBI Eco-T M nib & Kaweco AL Sport M nib for my class notes (cursive/print hybrid) and Pilot Friction for Mind Maps/Chapter highlights. Plus lots of others for fun & details.

I had lots of struggles because I'm very picky when it comes to pens and people wouldn't understand that I like one particular type of pen and would roll their eyes when I tried to explain to them that I can't write with random pen they gave me. This video just radiates "yes, it actually makes sense" energy to me.
My handwriting is super small. Like REALLY small, but I honestly like it that way even when people like friends and teachers tell me they don't know what I wrote because it's too small 🙂. But I like it because your notes look neater and you can honestly fit so much onto the paper, I like to make science notes specifically, very colorful and organized, I add little boxes of highlighter to lock my handwriting in, keep everything separated by section, and so much more. I've been trying to look for a pen to fit the small handwriting, but it's very hard since most pens have ink that bleeds and won't allow me to write in the way I feel comfortable because it will just bleed and the words won't show. So this was very helpful ☺️. Thank you for including the small handwriting pen, for my small handwriting that nobody can read, I started using the pen for my science class. Recently turned in my notes and my teacher told me it was so much easier to read my notes [And not because my handwriting is messy, it's actually really neat]. So thank you 🌸🌺🌸
i'm glad i found this video to help me find the perfect ballpen for me but i usually use the Flexstick ballpen in the size 0.7
i am a slow writer but still like gel pens, atm i use pilot hi techpoint V7 grip. I like the darker color it produces and love the smoothness.

In school when I was young I always struggled with the pens they gave me, the Bic cristal 1.6mm pens are the most comfortable for me to write with and I get much less pain when writing 'neat' as in school idk what pens they gave us but they always hurt me to write...and I wrote longer pieces of writing in them so it was horrible I ended up faking being sick a lot because it was too hurtful now it makes sense lol
i discovered sarasa pens about 4-5 years ago, and since then, their 0.5s have been the only pens i use. it's the perfect smoothness for me, while still having the slightest bit of comfortable friction so that i don't feel like my pen is sliding all over the paper, especially because my handwriting can get a bit big and loopy if i'm writing fast.
Never thought I'd watch this kind of video but it's true! My handwriting is super small, semi-cursive and has sharp/pointed feeling to it my friend said it could be an actual computer font. Helps that I don't like writing with round-tipped pen; pointed ones give a satisfying feeling while writing.

I've combo italicized medium-fast handwriting. Current favorite is the Uniball Signo with UM-120 refills, largely due to its water resistant ability. I'd alternate between 0.38 mm and 0.5 mm. It comes in different colors too.
I am a fast writer.Being a science student , I have to note so much in so less time..I accidently used Pentel energel which my friend gave to me and boy! what an amazing pen it is! I have been using it since 4 years and I don't like any other pen, they are a little bit costlier than normal local pens but the quality is just AMAZING.

i am a fast writer and also have quite small handwriting and have been using the pentel energel for years to journal now and i really like it! though i wouldnt be mad to try out all these other pens too - i just love stationary
I wondered how a channel dedicated to pens could have over 700k subs: then I started watching their videos. Great quality with helpful content! I've always had a problem with smearing ink, but I think this will help. I'm seriously considering buying whatever I get from JetPens after this.
For personal notes and studying, I've been using the Uni-Ball 207 Impact Gel Pen. They claim to use a hybrid of liquid-gel for the ink, and the tip is 1.0 mm. It writes like a dream IMO. The trouble is, over time, some of the pens begin to slightly skip which I find incredibly annoying. I might give the Pentel Gel ink pens a chance based on the video and comments here. I hate using pure liquid ink as it smudges easy.
For notes I take at work, I have been using the PILOT Precise V5 Stick Liquid Ink Rolling Ball. It is a liquid ink pen and it probably uses a 0.5 mm tip. It also writes great and never ever skips. My issue with them is that liquid inks don't dry fast and smudge badly if the paper gets wet after you write with them. I love Gel inks as they write really smooth, dry faster, and smudge less, I just hate the skipping at times...
