      Exactly! I got Getty and Dubay's book _Write Now_ , which is targeted towards adults, and it dramatically improved my handwriting.
      In school, I only learned ball-and-stick printing and looped cursive. It was drilled into us so hard that I never tried any other method. I went through college taking volumes of notes in looped cursive. It was almost unreadable.

    One recommendation from Getty -Dubay is that when doing joined writing, you don't need to connect every letter. If you naturally connect some, it's fine. They don't all have to be connected in a word.

    Remember everyone, your writing doesn’t always need to be clean and perfect, it depends on what your writing, if your writing notes for an exam that no one else is gonna read with little time or a lot of notes to write in less time it’s okay if it’s messy as long as you can read it, mean while if your writing on something others are going to be reading it’s best to try keeping your handwriting neater and easily readable.

Find inspiration: Though I print alright, thank you grade school drafting course, I still have a whole folder on my desktop dedicated to screen shots of other peoples handwritten study notes. It serves as inspiration, while also feeding into my addiction when they display them with the pens used. They help motivate me to practice my handwriting and it's so satisfying trying to duplicate them, or create something different. Lol, oh and not to mention, but it all gives me the excuse to buy more stationery.

    Great video! When I used to teach elementary school, we sometimes would use a slant board to help kids with their writing. An easy way to do that is to use the cover of a binder with the spine turned away from you. Perfect angled area to write and binders come with varied spine widths so you can use a 1" or 1.5 or even 2 inch binder or larger.

    • @FerralVideo
      @FerralVideo Před rokem

      You brought back *memories.* My parents built me a special slant board to use in school. Thank you for reminding me of it.
      It was an impressive piece. A normal clipboard would velcro onto a slightly larger plank of stained wood. A pivoting L-shaped piece was fastened to the back of the plank.
      When in the lower position, the short end of the L was at the top of the board, giving a shallow tilt.
      When in the raised position, the short end would lay flat on the table and the long end would support the board, giving a significantly steeper tilt.

    "write slowly" is a tried and true improvement tool -- but what I need to know is to how improve fast print handwriting (or cursive).

  • @onetruetroy
    @onetruetroy Před 2 měsíci

    I’ve enjoyed these videos and agree that slow purposeful practice is important. About 20 years ago I chose to write better both with print and cursive styles. I learned to lightly grip the writing instrument and use my whole arm to move my hand. My hand rests on the writing surface and since I use a gentle grip, my hand ‘wiggles’ on the relaxed side. My hand doesn’t tire and I write more consistently. After a few years I could write notes while just glancing at my progress. I’m always trying to find the perfect balance of speed and consistency.

    I'd be interested in how to write fast and still write neatly.
    I take most of my notes during meetings which I am also chairing so I have to write fast enough to keep up with the action.
    One thing I do, though, is to go over my notes after the meeting with a different colour pen and rewrite words that are so badly written I won't be able to figure out later what I wrote - then I have my original notes in blue and my neat writing alongside in green.

    I have two major styles.
    What usually ends up in my notebooks is a tight, scribbly, high speed chickenscratch that breaks most of the rules in this guide. And $deity help you if I'm using an ultra fine point.
    Meanwhile when I'm writing up something more important, like an official report for work, I'll slow way down.
    The sharp, narrow style is still there, but it obeys MOST of the rules laid out here, and looks FAR better for it.

    I use to have really nice printing.....bcuz I had a strict teacher in grade 3 (or whatever grade I was in at the time lol). When i got to Hight School, thats when my writing got sloppy bcuz I had to write fast, before the teacher would erase all the notes on the board. My printing is ok now but it could always be better lol. Same thing with my handwriting. I usually handwrite in my journal that way I dont forget how to do it later down the road. I have noticed some letters have changed. I see ppl writing capitals differently then how i was taught lol

    It's difficult to write on slippery paper. I use a precise V5 Pilot on regular copy paper. It has the right amount of drag for me. What do you think?

    Okay, I am in 4th grade so at school we are not allowed to use pen will a pencil work as well, also this other girl in my class has a nice handwriting and like her "F"s have a nice curve at the top is what I'm kind of looking for. Can you make a video on how to make your numbers better?📝 Could you maybe also make a video on how to make your letters a bit smaller, mine get too big.

    My biggest problem in writing is that i write the capital one in normal size and always make the others way smaller. When i try to make my writing bigger, it really look bad.
    I do could make my writing in normal size yet look good, but only when i write tittle which the capital takes two lines.
    Is there any advice? My hand writing is eligible for me, but it will become a problem for someone who can't read small size writing. In online learning I also have problem to capture photo of my written task because of how small it is written. I always afraid that the writing is too small to read by the lecturer from the photo

    I work on airplanes for a living. Ok I also lease out a property in California. But anyways everything we do in aviation has to be printed out in conjunction with an inspector. You would be surprised how many people can’t write well. Barely legible. I keep having to tell them your brain controls your hand. Writing neatly isn’t easy but it’s not impossible. One can always try.
    Cheers Bill

    Print writing is slower. I've being print writing most of my life but I don't like it much now. I feel a need to connect certain letters for better flow but I don't know how to do it. I would like to learn cursive writing. At least a combination of both cursive and print that smoothly flows through my hand.
